  1. Sounds like plenty of time for anyone to have learned how to remix and made one themselves. For whatever reason, it doesn't apply to me. Thanks AS, looking forward to hearing the new one!
  2. Yeah... I have 2 exams this week but next week I should be able to get back to working on this again.
  3. You mean these? I wouldn't mind if more were added (though I wouldn't know what they would be about).
  4. Haha, I've heard about that word, apparently it's one of those bs ones that people use to market stuff even though they don't know what they mean. Can't say LT doesn't though.
  5. Heheheh That would certainly get your workload down. Also it'll make you vote much quicker just to get your share of the submission fee. I wonder if getting your song on the site would get harder or easier though (if you get a dollar for every vote, will you vote more sloppily and just NO everything and be done with it, or YES everything and be done with it?).
  6. Hey I just reinstalled windows and would like to continue downloading torrents that were only halfway finished on my previous windows installation. Can this be done or do I need to start all over again? Using BitTorrent 6.
  7. No, not the pop-up box, the little table to the right of where you write your post, at the bottom of which you find the link to the more pop-up box. This frame has room for 3x7 smileys, but the bottom right one is empty, the smiley appears twice, the one three times and several useful ones aren't there. By cleaning this table up you'd have room for another 4 smileys from the "more" pop-up box, such as banghead, lol and wink, not to mention eyeroll! Also this forum has fairly few smileys. Unless this is completely intentional, maybe there could be a thread similar to the avatar one where people can post new ones to be added at your discretion? I could use something like these a lot...
  8. I wrote a long post about this but then my cookies were cleared for whatever reason, so you'll just have to do with "I disagree".
  9. Excuse me, but what music do you have playing in the background when playing Homeworld? Personally, I've never played a game that had more atmospheric and appropriate music. If only more games had music that awesome. And I sort of agree with DrumUltimA. I listen to game soundtracks more than I actually play games, and often while listening to the soundtracks I remember their games as better than they actually are. If I try playing an old game it's usually worse than I remember it to be, but the music stays fresh, more often than not.
  10. Oh, that's another thing. It absolutely has to be real-time, because I'm not likely to sit and wait for a full disk scan.
  11. Dreamhost has no bandwidth or space limitation? Oh, it's only a limited time offer. If I needed more than my 250MB of webspace I'd definitely take this deal, but I'm cheaper off as I am now. You, on the other hand, should definitely consider the unlimited deal - what else could OCR ask for than unlimited space and unlimited traffic? You could host every forum post, remix, every user's every wip, what have you - forever. If anyone should take this deal it should be you. But I suppose that would mean having to cancel your current x-year plan, which is probably pretty difficult... How much does OCR munch up monthly anyway?
  12. No, it's actually named Norman... they probably picked that name to steal customers would would have bought Norton and couldn't tell them apart.
  13. I hate Norton, alright, but Norman never bothered me.
  14. Thanks for clarifying. Well, it seems we're talking about the same part of the song after all - and listening to the harp I see what you mean by "up, up, up and down again" - I didn't know you meant the harp. The harp is in many parts of the song though and this section has a choir singing the melody, I think, even though the harp is probably easier to hear for most people. Thanks for finding this video, I'll edit my first post to include it so that people who haven't heard this before can compare the remix to the original.
  15. Ok, cool. VGMix used to allow users to upload a limited number of wips, I think 3 (don't remember a space limit). If everyone who wanted to have it (but then you should have to ask for it and have it disabled if you abuse it) was allowed 6MB of space on OCR for attachments, I don't know how much of an impact that would have on bandwidth or space, but it could mean a lot of dead links if people had to replace one wip with another one. Then again most people would probably be better off working on only one wip at a time - but talk to the hand... I don't really see why you would need to do something like that though - there are plenty of filehosts to go around, the only problem is that some people use really bad ones. EDIT: I got a reply from the other Admin, he says all users able to create threads are also able to change the name of their own threads by default in VB. The problem at OCR is that even though you get the title edit box when you "go advanced", the change you make there only edits the title of the first post, not the thread itself, as it does at that forum. I have no idea why this is the case, but I'm assuming it's because of a setting that has been done on this forum, inadvertently or on purpose, since that's apparently not how a VB forum behaves by default. Also you can just click next to a thread name to rename it there, I don't know if you mods are able to do that here on OCR...? EDIT 2: Another admin went on to say this: "Changing the title of the first post will change the title of the thread, as long as either the user is a moderator, or the time period in which thread title changes are permitted hasn't ended. This is controlled by vBulletin Options → Message Posting and Editing Options → Time Limit on Editing of Thread Title. We have it set to 52000000, i.e., effectively forever." Maybe on this forum this time limit is set to 0, or something very short like 1-5? I've never managed to change any thread title no matter how quickly I've tried doing it.
  16. Thanks. I hate it when there's so much to choose from and you can't tell one from the other...
  17. Yeah, streaming from the post itself would be nice (kinda like the last.fm thing on the remixes download pages, except within the actual post, like a picture). I don't know where it should be streaming from though. But considering how you can embed youtube clips in your posts, streaming music should be possible too. A lot of people are probably put off from listening to wips because they have to click some link to some weird file host website and wait for it to download. A lot of times those file hosts put so much stuff on the download page that you don't even know where the link to the file you want actually is, and if you weren't really that interesting to start with, you're not going to go through that much trouble. I always host my stuff on my own webpage so I can give people a direct link, but I don't know if the stuff could be streamed from there very easily. Maybe something like a quicktime stream except embedded? One where you have to click somewhere to start streaming / buffering (not to mention before you start playing) so you don't waste bandwidth on people who don't want to listen anyway. EDIT: Ok, the reply I got was "Actually you could create a usergroup with that permission and move all the users to this." (rename their own threads). Also on that forum changing the name of a thread is as simple as clicking next to the thread title in the list of threads and the name becomes an edit box (if you click next to a thread you started yourself, not other people's threads). When you're done, just click somewhere else and it saves the new name. I don't see why that wouldn't be possible here, you're running VB just like them.
  18. What is the linkscanner, what does it do and why did you disable it?
  19. As a VB customer, don't you have access to some kind of support? There should be someplace a forum admin could ask the VB makers how to do certain things, like allowing forum users to rename their own threads. I hang out at another VB forum a lot, I could ask the admin there how to do it. I never felt like there was something I wanted to be able to do but couldn't over there (but then again I've been a local mod there for like 2 years now, so...)
  20. So, I just installed Vista and I need some kind of antivirus. My university, which used to provide me with Norman, has stopped doing this and now recommend getting either Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic or AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. Any other suggestions?
  21. Another thing that bothers me is when people make vague indications of what part of the song they're talking about. When you listen to an mp3, you can always tell in minutes and seconds where in the song you are. People don't use that enough.
  22. Do you mean the choir part or something else? "up, up, up and down again" is a little vague. If you can, please tell me (in minutes and seconds) where in the source this happens.
  23. lol no (resub) a judge? Hmmmm. EDIT: Come to think of it, wasn't that pretty much what the panel itself did with Shael Riley? ... vague memory there. Bah. Whatever.
  24. Why don't you just post your stuff on thasauce instead? They're not as picky.
