Warcraft 2 'Human Battle 1' - v2 (Oct 9)
Dafydd replied to Dafydd's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Don't worry about it, you're the only one who commented so far, so I'll be thankful anyway. And I don't know that much technical lingo myself. I just thought there'd be more Warcraft II fans out there... Anyway, with the latter part of the piece, do you mean you wanted a dirtier instrument to come in at the very end of the song (that is, I paste it over what I have now), or after where it ends now (add a few seconds to the song, where the dirty instrument plays with the others)? -

I see. I suppose "jungle" could also be exchanged for "fish" or "cheese"? -

Hah, the vocals do kind of not fit in right now, but I'll make them. I'm not really sure what you mean by "Heavy tech" - aside from choosing a dirtier and heavier lead instrument, what could be done to kick this into full gear? -
OCR01759 - Donkey Kong Country "Lost in Jungle"

Nice piece. This is what I try to achieve when playing the piano (well, sort of), but, well, I don't. The piano is a little too perfectly in tempo though, so while playing solo it stands out as a little fake. The synth lead is great. But the title is in Swenglish... isn't it? -
This WIP features samples of powertools, NES, various electric and electronic noise and lots of bitcrush. Enjoy. DOWNLOAD (listen to version 2 instead! vvv) I wanted to make a Warcraft remix but I've been playing Red Alert and Starcraft a lot lately (most recently the Zerg campaign). Maybe you can tell by listening to this Somewhy it also sounds a lot like something from the DKC2 soundtrack... So... I still need to implement the last quarter or so of the source tune, but other than that, any comments/suggestions? Version 2 Mostly the same, no intro vocals because I need to work more with them, covers a few more seconds of the source. The new section is really underworked (especially the 2:34 on to 3:00 I'll try to get really crazy industrial with) and will probably change a lot, but I wanted to post something just to make sure I don't stop working on this. Again, I'm aware the new section isn't very good, but suggestions on how to improve it are very welcome. The very last part of the source, in which the melody is sung by a synth choir, I was thinking of singing myself... but I don't know whether I'll use a vocoder or just sing (probably just a very long "aah"). Also, if anyone is up for doing something fun with these vocals, in tempo (or otherwise making them fit better with the rest of the song, or has ideas on how to do that, please tell me/go ahead and experiment yourself. Best of all would be an old-school hip-hop scratch (in tempo). MrSneak was kind enough to find me a youtube clip with the source. vvv

OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
Dafydd replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
I think it would be cool if you were at least able to find vocal mixes more easily. -
http://remix.thasauce.net/sml2/ I think it's the one named Spaceman Jones by Steppo. This was a joke album released on April 1st this year, but this one song, and one or two others, were actually pretty good, although none of the good ones are full-length, which is really too bad.

I did a house type remix of this a while back, never finished it because I got myself into a muddy corner like always, but it's nice to see someone else give it a try. Personally, I prefered the one in the joke remix album on thaSauce over this one, but that's just me. The flute is pretty terrible.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game 'Medley'
Dafydd replied to ekikoo's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This was sorely needed, regardless if it's OCR quality or not (personally I don't think quality is an issue here, but it might be a little on the conservative side, and the drums are really repetitive and boring sometimes). -

EDIT: Didn't see Dhsu's edit. Looks like the site just stopped loading prematurely. -

Low technical barrier? Yeah, except most people (including myself) aren't good enough at mixing/mastering/whatever to get their ReMix accepted, even if the arrangement is good enough. I guess, technically, though, that's not a technical barrier. Anyway, I can't say I liked the interviewer, but it was kinda cool to see DJP in action. He doesn't look anything like I'd imagined, even though I've seen pics of him before. -
This sucks.

Don't know, but I suggest you get it while you can. I wonder if, after a set date, the disc images can no longer legally be distributed, i.e. if you don't already have them, you can't legally get them for free from someone else. Maybe it's going to be free forever.

So, having played RA for a few hours, I start remembering what frustrated me about it and why newer RTS's are better. 1. Units have a horrible tendency to go closer to a target than they need to - if ordered to attack, they won't stop moving when they're in range to fire, but will sometimes keep moving way too far, and will often get killed as a result, sometimes without ever firing themselves. Also, sometimes units will not attack at all if, when ordered to attack, they are in a selection of units some of which are already attacking - that is, if ordered to attack, they sometimes won't. 2. Pathfinding is horrible. 3. You can't queue up production, so if you want to build 10 tanks, you have to wait for the first one to finish production before you can click to begin production of the next one, etc. 4. Left-click ordering sucks. Instead of ordering a unit to do something, you often select another unit by mistake, since both are done with the same mouse button. Right mouse button deselects. Honestly, this is incredibly stupid. 5. Unit range (that is, how far they can fire) seems to be completely random. I.e. e.g. one "infantry" (the little soldiers with machine guns) can shoot up to 5 map tiles, sometimes he can't fire at a guy standing right next to him without having to run even closer. I guess this has something to do with 1. 6. Unit awareness. A tank shooting at a bad guy will stop shooting when the bad guy is dead, even if there's another bad guy right next to him. The tank will have to back to idle mode and then start attacking the other bad guy - but only if under attack by said other bad guy. Gaaah! 7. Ballistics. Tanks can't hit anything that moves - they'll keep firing at the position where the object was at the time they fired, instead of trying to aim for where the object will be when the shot hits. 8. Tanks also can't move and fire at the same time unless they have been ordered to attack (in which case they will behave as in 1.). Anyway, it's a pretty enjoyable game, but all these little things are incredibly annoying. I wish EA would do the same thing with NFS4 (including XP compability instructions / patch).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's old Frankie, at least if you go by the ID3 tags. Anyway, I'm pretty sure you can find the Red Alert OST pretty easily, but I got mine from Galbadia Hotel.

I think the download site contained instructions on how to install it. Maybe these discs aren't identical to the ones you have - I doubt EA would expect you to "hack" their own game. Vista: http://www.cncworld.org/?page=features/tutorials/rafree_vista XP: http://www.cncworld.org/?page=features/tutorials/rafree EDIT: However, it's pretty unlike EA to refer to a webpage containing the sentence "The files have been compressed to save on filesize (and so EA can add unnecessary promotional material)" for installation instructions... I wonder if EA is aware of this sentence. Heh heh.

Ah, I didn't think to look under C&C, I went browsing under R... heh. Funny, the filenames are Red Alert, without the C&C.

Awesome. I was actually on my way to, ehum, get this game soon anyway. Been listening to its soundtrack some recently. It's still very enjoyable, and hell march isn't the only good one in there! "Face to the enemy" 1 and 2 are the best songs in the soundtrack, imho, but there are several others, too. I wonder when this game will get its first OCReMix...

OCR01747 - Super Metroid "Zebes Rising"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This mix is really really cool. The dirty sound and the atmosphere of it all is very nice. The fact that the melody plays f g# f f g# d# instead of f a# f f a# d#, as well as the fact that the part played by a piano in the original here plays one fifth lower than it should be (relative to the bassline, of course) drags it down by quite a bit for me though. I realize this is a complete non-issue for just about everyone else, but it bothers me. It's such a small thing and it has such a negative impact on the experience for someone who once meticulously transscribed this song note-by-note and by ear into a midi. -

The current version of ChipAmp contains a version of NEZplug that is incompatible with the newest version of WinAmp. The new version of NEZplug (called NEZplug++) can be found here. The ChipAmp package should be updated to include this new version. The paragraph you're reading contains only sentences beginning with the word "the". Figured I'd be better off posting this here rather than e-mailing DJP about it. Sorry if that's not the case. -
Never happened to my N64 or SNES controllers, even though every single one of the other buttons stopped working.
