@The Imposter has now claimed The Awesome Black Hole. Welcome aboard!
    3 tracks to go!
Now you can REALLY drop the mic.
    Which mic did you get?
No, not yet - I still haven't had a chance to sit down and figure out how I want this to work, let alone write any sort of script.
Since quite a few folks are asking about this, I guess I better get on it.
Record it, duplicate the track, then hard-pan each track left and right. You can do stereo pretty good this way.

     --WHAT WE NEED—
We are looking for the following support (thanks to Odai for swiping this idea from the Ocarina of Time project and thanks to Theophany for the original idea):

*A Co-Director to assist me in the qualification and review of the music and audio for this project. I need someone with past experience on working with OCR and with the final production of a project, as I have only limited experience in this area. *POSITION FILLED*
*Arrangers/Remixers to conceptualize and complete remixes. This is where the bulk of the work will be. Brand new or experienced veteran, anybody who would like to take part is welcome.
Voice Actors to bring life to the characters in our audio narratives. If you think your voice would be perfect for one of the available roles, drop us a PM or email!
Performers who are experienced with any type of instrument and have a high-quality recording setup. Sometimes live is better, so anyone willing to lend a hand to a fellow musician short an instrument or skill would be appreciated.
Sound Designers/Audio Support interested in mixing and sound design for the project. Ideally, we would like folks who are willing to provide support and/or collaboration with Remixers who are new or inexperienced at mixing.
Mastering Support for bringing the final WAVs into coherency and giving the final touches to tracks before final submission. I have no experience mastering and so I'm asking for someone(s) who is(are) willing to dedicate a little time (okay, a lot of time) to help us get the album through one of the final hurdles. *POSITION FILLED*
Anyone who is interested in helping in any one of these areas, please let me know.

    --ALBUM CONCEPT—
First, a special 4-Arwing salute goes to Thomas Neil, who originally came up with the idea of building a Star Fox album in time for Star Fox’s 25th anniversary. He would have been the director for this project, but life became more complicated for him, so he was unable to give the project the commitment he thought it deserved. I thought it would be a shame if this one-only timing for the album fell apart, so I volunteered to bring his idea to light.
I have always believed that Star Fox is the flight simulator for everyone who doesn’t like flight simulators. I remember playing the first game, years ago, and being fascinated with the SUPER HIGH TECH 3D POLYGON GRAPHICS, the ‘smooth’ play control, and the choice of different routes to take to reach the final goal, depending on the difficulty chosen. I’ve played other flight simulators, but none have given me the same thrill as Star Fox. Seven games and almost 25 years later, Star Fox has become a respected Nintendo franchise.
We had a goal to put together a two disc set of 14-17 songs per disc, featuring a showcase of what we would hear flying around as Fox McCloud. Due to my own life complications, this project timeline was extended past the point where we could release it before Star Fox's actual 25th anniversary of release; now, instead of simply a tribute, we are focusing on the concept of the narratives and music: To celebrate the Star Fox series, we are putting together a tour of the Lylat System from Corneria to Venom to give this Solar System a little bit of the Star Fox experience,
All tracks from all games are open and there are no genre restrictions. The deal for the album concept is one track per area on a course between Corneria and Venom.
One exception to this is tracks from Star Fox Adventures. A maximum two tracks can be claimed from this game, as I don’t want the listener to spend too much time on Sauria; that being said, if we get more, we may accept them as bonus tracks.
       --AUDIO TRACKS--
To add a little spice to our journey through the Lylat System, we have put together a series of audio tracks throughout the album to guide our listeners a little closer to the Star Fox experience. We are gathering talented voice actors to play the main characters from Star Fox as they fly through the Lylat System, growing closer to the final goal of reaching Venom to battle Andross.
If you're interested in voicing a character, let us know!

@prophetik music Confirmed, this is currently a hard limit for users of the "Members" group; relevant settings:
Conversations allowed to start per day = 5 Conversations allowed to start per minute = 1 Maximum recipients per conversation = 5 These are intended to mitigate any spambots that might make it through (or, I suppose, overzealous users?) from abusing the PM system.
Do you need more & why? If so, and perhaps regardless, we may create an "elevated" group above regular members for users who have been around a good while, made numerous contributions, etc., and we could bump these settings for these ELITE SPECIAL PEEPS...

Cool sound, I like the slight changes for variation, but still very repetitive.
My feeling is that you will run into the same issue with Wart's theme in terms of repetition. I think one solution could be layering some interesting fill work over top of the foundation you have here (maybe after 2-4 loops) and introducing a solo you can shred cheese with (perhaps over top of Wart's theme, depending on where you decide to go with it).
Just a suggestion, hope this helps.

So we just passed our second-to-last deadline, and I am very happy with the progress that we saw for this deadline. Not only do we have a handful of tracks that are nearly finished, we also saw a good amount of new WIPS and a few folks reaching out to get a bit more time for their updates. So thanks all, let's keep it up!
Unfortunately we didn't hear from everyone, and that also means a track that previously was claimed has become available again. Anyone interested, I Closed My Eyes, the dreamy Game Over tune, is now up for grabs again!
Next deadline is July 2nd. It'd be a good idea to shoot for a near final version of your track so you don't have to rush it towards the final deadline in September. Stay tuned!

The choice is yours as how you want to approach this. SF64 and SF Adventures have very similar map select themes, but SF SNES and SF2 have their own music which could be easily incorporated.
Let me know what you decide and I'll fix it all up.

I'd really like to help with some feedback, but no matter how many times I listen to your track, I seriously can't figure out in which genre you want to remix the source. I suppose it is mostly due to the very lifeless and cold sounding synths you used -- better sound design or new sets of sounds might be a good solution to give you track a clearer direction -- and the drums.
0:44 has a clear dubstep potential but you want to use a more aggressive bass and punchier drum kit (something "Beat Factory Drumz" could provide you).
1:27 introduces a few SFXs on top of a Hi-Fi track. It's a very good idea but I think you should make it longer and transform it into a crazy "SFX Solo" using various sounds taken directly from the N64 game (like Sir DarkeSword did for his awesome "Beamsabre Beat Zero v2") before slowly returning the frequency to normal in the last bar. I do not think adding dialogue would be a bad idea either to make the piece more narrative -- similar to what is going to be done for Corneria and, from what I heard, @The Nikanoru's long awaited Titania mix (see what I did there, Boss ^^) -- but that's up to you.
Many times you introduced rhythm guitars and then seem to completely forget about them. For instance, they start at the end of the "dubstep" part to prepare us for the next one... but where actually ARE they in that following section? I think having at least one organic instrument playing in a completely electro/synth song really makes the difference and helps giving a track more authenticity and soul, so please -- don't be shy with it (and I saw on profile you can play the guitar, so let us hear it!)
I also think your baby is too conservative so far. What would help make it yours better would be to drop the orchestra-esque drums and go for a more electro one in therms of compo -- something you start exploring at 0:55. Stick with a kick and snare beat, add some hi-hats and cymbals and make it hit us hard!
To conclude: re-think your sounds, add more guitars and offer new beats to you mix. That'll help us -- and yourself -- get a better idea of where you want to go so that we can keep up giving you accurate and helpful feedback. At the end of the day, I know this piece has the potential to be something great if treated right. It has that little something that I also could hear in @TheChargingRhino's very first WIP of Corneria and @Pichu's Dad's Meteor Base, making it coherent as part of the album.
So far, I can only suppose your track would make a good Hardcore Techno piece. If that's the way you want to go, go ahead and listen to this album (at least the first, third and eighth tracks). Hope it helps... I'm not sure

The Nikanoru reacted to Cole Train in PaRappa the Rapper: "Believe" EP (RECRUITING)
Obligatory "I'm not dead, updates, and this project is still alive" post
Just a couple of things. The MAJOR SUPER IMPORTANT UPDATE is that given the smaller amount of rappers on here, as well as the fact that (in my experiences anyway) trying to spin a song into something completely different in the same genre (even when trying to change it to a different subgenre) is difficult, R&B is now allowed for this project as well, not just rap. May seem like a strange addition, but given how often both rap and r&b are paired together, it seems fitting. Although having at least some rapping in all the main stage themes would be preferred.
As a result of this, I've added more tracks to be claimed as well, including The Jet Baby, Smooth Life of Mine, and more. These aren't essentials I feel, but would be very nice. Also feel free to keep track of who has what claimed and progress on the new project overview sheet (shoutout to @The Nikanoru for the idea on that).
Also to those who've claimed tracks, being @zykO, @DaleNorth, @OceansAndrew, and @Navi, I'm hitting you guys up on May 4th for updates. No WIP needed as I know this date is a surprise.
And finally, does anyone know any better ways to contact DaleNorth and Navi? Would be appreciated!

This is a very cool concept. I would love to claim something but I am too busy myself these days.
Just to ask the question: I have played a ton of fighting games in the past; is this concept just for 'popular' games or can we delve into relative obscurity with titles like Samurai Showdown, Ranma 1/2, or Doomsday Warriors?
    EDIT:
Missed this line in the intro. I consider my question answered.

For non-piano work, I think you'll manage with 49 or 61 keys. I have 37 and I haven't needed more for my music, but for working out intricate parts, 49 may be the minimum I would recommend for semi-limited space.

    Update time!
I've posted @Ronald Poe's update of Fleet From the Stars to the WIP spreadsheet. Give it a listen and tell us what you think! I've finally redone the colors according to the current WIPs - check the top of this thread for tracks I'm now calling orange due to the new color assignments. You can always shoot me a PM to ask for any clarity on why I assigned the way I did. Everyone was in contact with me at least briefly before the last update. Thanks again for this; however, given the information I was given at the time, I'm still waiting for updated WIPs from the following folks:
@JulienMulard - Raid on the Water People @CrimsonCobalt - Can't Let You Do That!, Into the Swarm (new name!) @Slimy - Ode to Star Fox @classic_gamer_76, @Slimy - (Krazoa Palace) Prominion - (Fortuna) If you haven't already, please get in touch with me and let me know what is going on. A new WIP for SCRAMBLE is still coming - I have all the parts, I just haven't put them together yet. I'll make sure this is done before the weekend is over. I will attempt to do the same for Bad Weather...
Also - with all the updates I received (which we will count for this past deadline) means we have 12 orange status tracks! We made our goal! Thanks again to everyone for the extra help getting us across this line.
Keep the beautiful noise coming, everyone. Just because I set deadlines doesn't mean your track can't be finished early!
PM me if you have any questions or concerns. Cheers!

You are .. so far. There are still 5 claims left open!
I'm not sure exactly what form this will take yet, but that's one idea.
It would make sense to have specific folks voice the characters throughout that album, wouldn't it? I recorded my own voice as Fox and Falco for my Bad Weather WIP (yes, I do have something, just not enough to post yet), but I think it would be awesome to have the same voice for a character no matter where it is on that album. I may have to get you to record a line or two for me if we go ahead with this.
You did. There are a couple of wrong notes in there, but I'm not in front of my keyboard right now.
Shouldn't this be posted in your remake project thread instead? Or are you still building that?
    ---
Who else would be interesting in voice acting if we went with that? The main 6 roles would be Fox, Falco, Slippy, Peppy, Pepper, and Andross, and we'll include Krystal. Not sure which characters would be included at this point. I guess I would take Pepper, since I already voiced him in SCRAMBLE and I'll take Andross if no one else does.
Still looking for more feedback on the narrative too - let us know what you think.

The Nikanoru got a reaction from TheChargingRhino in Has Anybody Here Quit Playing Video Games?
@DarkEco, this is all sounding very familiar to me. Being a fairly long-time gamer myself, I'd like to say from my side of the fence that I haven't quit gaming - my games mean too much to me to give up completely - but over the years I have found myself playing them less and less as my life has become more and more complicated. I average now about 16 hours a month; about 8 hours every other Sunday (when I can get away with it).
When I do game, I find myself going back over those old titles - sometimes it's a track I hear on OCR, or an interesting article, or even an obscure reference that makes me want to play a game again. Did that recently with Super Mario RPG; after hearing some of the amazing songs on the SMRPG album, I HAD to pick up the game again to get a little context to the tracks I was hearing.
That being said, like @Skrypnyk I have a very hard time justifying going to the next generation of console. I've played the console hardware shuffle over eight generations now and it doesn't make sense to me to pay $450+ CAD to upgrade to a PS4 that I want maybe six games for and have very little time to play.
As far as 'cutting back' is concerned, I was trained at a young age to schedule my game time; typically blocks of one to three hours depending on whether my brother was using the games and/or whether my homework was done or not. Once I moved out, blocks of three hours became blocks of eight to twelve. Now that I'm older, I still consider a good day's worth of gaming at eight hours, but the frequency is far less. I don't think a full 'detox' is necessary; I think some scheduling and a little self-discipline should bring a little more balance to your life, so you can pursue other activities AND still enjoy a game form time to time.
But hey, this is just my opinion. If you think you need to do this, then don't let me stop you - I'm just saying there's more than one path.

The Nikanoru reacted to Jorito in Secret of Mana: Resonance of the Pure Land - History
So we're in April already, and I'd like to remind y'all that we have a new deadline coming up. The next deadline is April 30! Also a reminder, if you don't check in with an updated WIP or neglect to tell us if you can't make the deadline, we'll unfortunately have to drop your claim. So don't let that happen and check in with us, ya hear?
@Blake Inc. and @PabloComa are in the clear for this deadline, they already reached out to us with their status for this check-in.
Really looking forward to seeing the first WIPs from @Sagnewshreds, @JonnyAtma, @Fishy, @dannthr, @HankTheSpankTankJankerson, @HeavyViper and @Kylok. Don't let us down and in stead amaze us with the coolness you'll bring!
Also looking forward to updated WIPs from @zykO, @Rexy, @audio fidelity, @Harmony, @djpretzel, @Jorito, @Kylok. You're off to a great start, so keep it coming.
And of course a shout out to @Hylian Lemon, @Chernabogue, @Sbeast, @Starphoenix, @Thirdkoopa. You guys are nearly there and it'd be awesome to see you bring your track to its completion.
Lastly @Yami and @RebeccaETripp expressed interest in claiming a track. If you're still interested, don't forget to stake your claim
There's 3 weeks left to that next deadline, so plenty of time to bring the goodness!

The Nikanoru got a reaction from YoshiBlade in Lylat System CLEAR: A Star Fox Tribute Album
Unfortunately, the Staff Roll tracks have already been taken by @Slimy as a part of his Ode to Star Fox remix. 'Come in Corneria' as you call it (or 'Game Clear Demonstration' as my source file calls it) has not been claimed, but now that I've submitted the project to OCR (even though I changed the tracklist one last time just after I did), I'm reluctant to change the tracklist any more than it already has been. I'd offer you the claim as a bonus track, but you already have Clipped Wings on the way!
That being said, I've considered adding a narrative element to the album after the last conversation we had regarding a 'radio play' approach to SCRAMBLE - we boiled it down to the vocals we have at the beginning, but I still think it's a cool idea. @YoshiBlade's Candy Corn album was a big inspiration to me in this regard; listening to that whole thing gave me buckets of ideas for possible future projects.
I'll consider this over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, everyone: feel free to let me know what you think about this.

I've received @M_Blacki's Sector Y update, and he's now let me post to the WIP spreadsheet. He's gone with the SF64 version instead of the waltz from SF SNES - give it a listen and let us know what you think!
