Hey guys I know I haven't posted in a while, but this is still something I'd like to do.  Got a nasty flu but getting over it now.

I've been thinking about how many tracks we want / which games we want to have in this.

I'm thinking something like 20 tracks-ish (if they are all at least 2 min then that's at least 40min worth of music)

No more than 2-4 tracks based on any specific series so we keep things balanced.  No more than 1 remix of any specific song.

Those of you that have posted, any thoughts?  Do you guys already have completed tracks that you're thinking of submitting to this?  I have at least 1 that I think will be good for this mix, which is a Xenoblade 2 remix, but other than that I think anything I personally produce will be brand new for this mix specifically.  Happy to hear any other ideas, and if people want to start claiming tracks to remix, go for it!

If you're going for this being an OCR official album, I think shooting for less than 20 would be a better idea, personally

    All up to you!

  2. Just letting everyone know that I'm working on my Area 6 arrangement heavily before giving it off to performers. Contacting a few people to see if they're interested in helping critique; I think it's really going to come to life after all the advice I've got and a ton of listening to a few Jazz albums.

Also just so everyone knows, I'm going to be opening... a lot more performer slots. Like, double what I had before.

  3. If there's time on the last minute boat, and depending on how much time, I could still throw in Dungeon Cave or the Final Battle. (I originally wanted the latter) - I've definitely improved at what I'm doing lol.

I'm however expecting anything though since this is so close to deadline. This looks fantastic!

  4. here we goooo
What I'm going to need live instrumentation of (I can manage to replace some parts on my own w/ whatever works best. I'm not dead set on having these be 1:1)

    Bari Sax

    Bass Clarinet

    Trumpet

    Cornet

    Trombone

    Drum Set

    Piano?
Two Acoustic Guitars (I'm capable of doing these myself)

4 electric guitars (someone can just double for all of these parts; most of them aren't too difficult)

    Banjo

    Bass Guitar

Choir (...probably gonna get a friend to sample these; just four)

    A Cello

...Yeah some of these are definitely going to have to be changed, but I'd like to at least at tempt to hit all of them with their instruments or at least something close.

So currently we have 1 finished song, 5 substantial WIPS, 1 rough WIP, and awaiting 3 WIPS.

I've put the next deadline as May 1st, so hopefully we will have everyone at the rough/substantial WIP stage by then.

    Make that 2 :)

    I would organize it like:

Remixer I wants to claim a track, has a good idea for two fighting game character themes. In the best case he can describe if one of the two character themes would "dominate" the remix. It could be like in a fighting game where one character wins, :-)

Take an example that starts with the melody of Iori Yagami's (KOF) Arashi No Saxophone and there is a back and forth with Guiles Theme, also featured with Saxophone sounds. The theme that is mostly heard in the remix and in the best case also ending it, decides the "winner" of the track.

The illustration(s) for it could show Guile beating up Iori with his Flash Kick or one of his normal moves. The best stage background for this case would also be Guile's stage from SF II.

I would post the character theme mashup (Iori vs. Guile) idea there on GA-HQ or directly ask one of the artists that are a lot into fighting games and would most likely love the idea and describe the idea of the song OR provide the contact between the remixer and the artist so both can exchange their ideas and work out something together.

Some ideas that are total shots into the blue for maybe nice mashups:

Killer Instinct Eyedol Theme vs. Mortal Kombat II, Shao Kahn's Arena / Shao Kahn

Ky Kiske Holy Orders from Guilty Gear XX vs. Jin Kisaragi  Lust SIN Theme from BlazBlue Calamity Trigger

Zangief's classic Street Fighter II Theme vs. King Tekken 2 (Arcade) Theme

Kilik's stage theme "New Legend" from the classic SoulCalibur vs. Captain America's Marvel Super Heroes /Marvel vs. Capcom theme

I like this idea a lot. It gives a lot of room for composers and artists to work with each other which we usually don't get a lot of opportunities to do. Good stuff!

also can't join the group D:

Irrelevant to the track, but about the drum samples; Do you have any general tips when it comes to programming drums to make them sound better/more realistic? I'll add reverb and flanger every once in a while and try to humanize them with different velocity intensity, but what else would you recommend?

My assistant personally recommends making sure that the down beats (1, 2, 3, 4) are emphasized compared to the offbeats. Listen to drums and analyze them - See what makes them feel real.

  8. Quick thing about the drums:

Since the drums and all are made in Sibelius and Drum charting is ANNOYING, it's more of a "Mood set"; we're either going to go with different samples that sound very good or a real drummer. With the time we have and seeing that the rest of the band is filled up (and we're going to add more potentially to this piece) we're *definitely* going to change those from copy pasta to 'really varied and not boring'

It's indeed a claim you can stake. I'm not too familiar with your music, though, so would there be a chance that you could PM me some samples of your work? Thanks - I'll hold that track for you until then.

    yeah sure

And I'll have a demo ASAP - I know my arrangement stuff... I just need to step up my instrumentation game and my mixing/production game.

    Sorry, I missed this!

Unfortunately (or fortunately, pending on your point of view), the Sinistral's battle theme is Battle #3, which has an amazing finished arrangement from Prince uf Darkness and Snappleman. Do take a look at the links on the front page, though - perhaps one of the Sinistral themes when you encounter them is to your liking instead? Just a suggestion!

Logimos Shrine (Below Ground) / Lost World

Is that good? I see it on the unclaimed list. :D
