Oh my gosh, I forgot to vote! Sorry about that. I agree with the outcome though. I really liked GCJ's orchestral remix. I also liked HoboKa's creative take during the last 30 seconds or so of his submission. Finally, I loved sggod's rock idea (although I didn't like the voice samples at the beginning) and would have loved to see it fleshed out further.

    The People's Remix Competition 352
    PRCv14-14

Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition!
Welcome to round 352 of PRC. OneUp, the person who has won the most PRC's of everyone managed to get another win, leaving Trism behind with the last place wooden spoon. Since OneUp already picked 22 sources before he was out of ideas so he decided to look in the request forum to find a source.
Source: Warsong - Player Phase 1 (GEN)
    MIDI
    Source Information
ThaSauce link: Click here to submit
This selection is based on the following request:

To submit a song at the compo page you can use the ThaSauce page. If you use this, an account is required. If you don't want to use ThaSauce, please upload the song somewhere else and post a download link in this thread. I recommend Soundcloud, don't forget to allow downloads to enable me to upload the song at ThaSauce. I will keep using ThaSauce as the place where all songs are located.
If you want to use ThaSauce, the following steps should be done.
Click the ThaSauce Link. Click the 'You are not logged in' button in the upper right. Click on 'register' (at the bottom). Read the terms and click 'I agree to these terms'. If you don't agree with them, upload the song somewhere else and post a download link as mentioned above (by doing that, you allow me to upload the song at ThaSauce. Continue the process by filling in your information. You will get a question to confirm that you're not a robot. Here are some possible answers: Name a compo: PRC Who organizes One Hour Compo: Starla Name a ThaSauce subdomain: compo.thasauce.net Who created Mega Mans: Capcom A confirmation mail will be send. There might be some issues with it (meaning that you don't get it), if that is the case, upload the song somewhere else as described above.
Once registered, login with your username and password, go to the mentioned page and submit the song. If you want submit two or more songs you can create multiple ThaSauce accounts or upload the song somewhere else and post the download link.
After uploading your song, please check if your song plays and can be downloaded and played without problems. Only upload MP3 files.

    PRC instructions
The deadline is Wednesday July 19th 2017 at 10:59 pm ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT), check the ThaSauce page for the exact time left. Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread. Note that this is one week longer as usual. I'll be on vacation between 9 and 24 July so I don't know if I'm able to check the status of the round. If no songs are submitted, there will be a five day extension (new deadline will be Monday July 24th). I might not be able to edit it on ThaSauce so please post a song in this thread with a download link in that case. If one song is submitted, that song is the winner (even if it's a bonus). If two or more songs are submitted voting starts as planned. If there are only multiple bonus mixes started, there will be a voting stage, or the mixers may decide who gets to pick a source. PRC353 will start directly after the end of the remixing stage of this round (on July 19th). This is even the case when PRC352 has an extension. I'll schedule this round on ThaSauce already and I will also open an Ocremix thread at the end of this week (without revealing the source already).
You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that if you use ThaSauce, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix if you use ThaSauce. Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score. The winner of this round may select the source for PRC354. The winner of PRC350, OneUp, can only participate by submitting a Bonus Mix. His vote is doubled in the voting stage. This time, @Estrang will also have a double vote since Estrang made the request. You can find the full rules list at this page as well. Note that the rules for deadlines and extensions are a bit different this time.
    GOOD LUCK!

    Welcome to the voting stage
The mixing stage is over. This round has 3 songs. The following people compete against each other:
    GCJ
    Hoboka
    Sggod89

(if you want a different color, let me know by replying or sending me a PM).

    To vote, do the following:
    ·       Visit the stated ThaSauce Page and listen to all the entries.
    ·       Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen or click PM.
    ·       Fill in the entries from first to third in the ThaSauce form or fill in your top 3.
    ·       State a reasoning for it.
    ·       Participants are encouraged to vote and leave feedback. However, they may not vote for themselve, they get a free first place if they vote, so it might help. They should leave the third box empty. Non participants are encouraged to vote to decide the winner and leave comments.
    ·       Dex has a vote that counts twice.
    ·       Always look in this thread to find out who's the winner of the round after the voting stage instead of only looking at ThaSauce for the results. Especially since some people might vote by sending me a PM.
You have until THIS Monday, July 3rd 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT) to vote. This is shorter as in the last rounds.
If you vote by PM make sure that your top 3 (or top 2 for participants) is clear. I prefer something like this:
    (To)
Bundeslang (if you follow the link you won’t have to add my name).

    (Subject)
    PRC ### Vote

    (Message):
    1: (remixer A )
    2: (remixer B )
    3: (remixer C )

    (reasoning)

I will post the feedback given in the PM’s and the votes in this thread. The winner may choose the source tune for PRC353. I need to have the source on time since I'll go on vacation on July 9th.

Check the ThaSauce Page to vote or click here to send a PM.

Anyway it's nice to see some good representation this round. I wonder if anyone else is working on something for this?

I've heard of the MnP compos, but as I have little music making experience, I never paid attention to them. When I saw the source, though, I was intrigued, and after I looked over the rules I thought, "I might actually be able to pull this off!" After some experimenting, I made... something. I'm now happy to say I have my very first ReMix under my belt! Submitted!

SURE, the one round I choose to experiment, so does everyone else
I really liked the range of compositions this round, and I am quite surprised I came out on top in the end.
NinjaPenguinDan, I *did* humanize the piano! Oh well, I guess it wasn't enough, and listening to my track again I can hear some parts that feel a little too stiff. Argh. Oh well, it's all part of the learning process, isn't it?
RonaldPoe, I agree with the others who say that you need to turn up the bass lines in your work. There's something interesting going on there but it's really hard to hear. Maybe it sounds good to you but it's not translating - in other words, maybe there's something wrong with your audio monitoring setup. Personal story along those lines: for the first few months I did remixes people would always comment about the lack of low end in my work even though it sounded fine on my end. I was mixing with headphones with a nice and flat low-end frequency response, so what could the problem be? It turns out the problem was that I was plugging them into my speaker's headphone jack instead of directly into my computer's headphone jack, and the speakers were applying a bass boost before passing the signal along! I thought it was just a pass-through connection but I was wrong. So now I just plug my headphones directly into my computer and things are...well, not ideal, but at least much better.

This is screaming out for a rock remix, but I'm going to try to step out of my comfort zone a bit and take in a totally different direction.

MnP ARCHIVE  - made by Trism

    MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required.

    MnP Instructions/Guidelines
Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max). Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry. Please don't make any comments about people's entries - including your own - until the Voting process is concluded.  BONUS entries are exempt of this rule. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct
    MISC/TIPS
    - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier.
    - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

What's up folks? Dex here. I've been playing live music for about 20 years but I'm pretty new to making music on a computer. I've always thought that Final Fantasy Legend II had an incredible battle theme, so I decided to learn more about computer music by remixing it! The remix is mostly in a metal style, but I change it up a bit toward the end. I'm planning on adding a little bit more to it and ending it in a metal style, but before I work on that I'm curious if anyone has any feedback on the work I've done so far. The first couple of seconds of the remix are from the overworld theme that you hear in the game right before you get into a battle, btw.

Wow, close competition this time! @Trism There was a tone change in my second section! All guitars and drums got a tone change, but maybe some of them were too subtle.
@APZX Thanks! For the finale I assume you mean 1:57-2:21. I like the drum part I wrote there but I didn't like the way it ended up sounding with the built-in drum panning. I tried to take your comment last time about layering the parts to make the song more interesting to listen to to heart this time, so I did a lot with panning the guitars, organ, trumpets, and sax this time around.

PlanarianHugger did another song for PRC, a bonus mix this time (as winner of PRC346).

GCJ did a short but interesting song. Still he only got 12 points, ending with the last place wooden spoon.
Dewey Newt was the winner of PRC347, but now ends with 15 points and second place.
And the winner of PRC348 is Dex with the maximum 21 points.
Dex congratulations. A strong way to start PRC. You may select the source for PRC350. Send the source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix). Send your source as fast as you can, but before next Monday (29 May), 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT).
You may select any source for any game, but not a source with an OverClocked remix or a source which has been used in PRC before. An overview of the past PRC's can be found in the following links:

It's not just about bass drum hits. X's are hits on the bass or snare drums that must be there. At the x's you can choose whether to hit the bass, snare, hi-hat, or none of them. For instance, if you choose a X-xX-x pattern, a single bar of 6/8 (high bpm) might look like
    hi hat O--O---
    bass drum O-O---
    snare ---O-O
    (O=hit, -=rest)
Now loop that, but occasionally drop the second O on the bass drum and/or snare.
