If you'd told me this was made in two days after I listened to it, I wouldn't have believed you. I love the lyrics and all the little touches that make it so atmospheric, like the bubbling and quiet laugh. This stage seemed to me like one of the most intimidating in Super Metroid, aesthetically, in part thanks to this source. Mellow, but evokes a sense of isolation. I think this remix really captures the original feel of the area.

Really amazing performance. I reflexively wanted to clap at the end of the video, but nobody's going to hear that, so: /standing ovation. -
Happy Birthday!

Congratulations!

OCR01731 - Final Fantasy X "Endless Skies"

Yikes! Regardless of whatever quibbles I posted about, I would have been really sad if he had withdrawn it. I've been humming it all day. It can be really nerve wracking to have something you created get scrutinized by others. Kudos for enduring it, Jon. -
OCR01731 - Final Fantasy X "Endless Skies"

I like this a lot. Very chill and addictive beat. The piano really stands out to me as giving the whole song a unique feel -- the mix feels stronger to me wherever it's present. My only qualm would be that the break from 3:30 to 4:20 feels a bit too desolate (of melody) compared to the rest of the mix. Still, great stuff. -
Prayers for bLiNd (UPDATE: He's home)

Glad to hear Jordan is doing better, I just saw djp's note in the latest remix update linking to this thread. White Skies is one of my favourite songs on all of OCR; many of his other remixes have a permanent place in my playlist as well. He is an amazing composer and I am hoping he will be around for a long long time yet. Stay well, both of you. P.S.: Jordan's tracks are also extremely fun to play in Audiosurf. Capturing the top score for White Skies has become one of my obsessions. Other people are much better at that game than me, though =P -
OCR01728 - Jade Cocoon "Legend of Arcana ~ Tale of the Nagi"

Very fun listen! You really did a lot with the original melody. This one's going in to stay in my playlist for a long time. BTW, I really liked your first Jade Cocoon mix as well. -
OCR01727 - Mega Man X3 "Revolutions"

The more I listen to this, the more I like it. I've listened to a lot of his remixes, and although this one doesn't have the same instant gratification as some of his past mixes, it feels much deeper than anything of his I've heard before. -

My head asplode. This is too good. -
OCR01700 - Okami "Celestial Winds from the East"
Thrull replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This could easily have been part of the original soundtrack as a separate song. It fits in perfectly with the style the original composers used, and yet, at the same time, I can't figure out which song it's a remix of. I actually found this out after I had listened to the song, as I just started playing Okami for the Wii a few days ago. Amazing game. -
This song is stuck in my head big time. I am finding myself humming it without even realizing it. I haven't heard the original, but either way this rendition has so much charm I doubt I'll get tired of it for a while. My only complaint is that I can't really hear the ending coming, and it always makes me a little sad when it stops.

OCR01697 - Final Fantasy VI "A Day in the Life of a Gambler"

One of the more memorable/uplifting FF6 songs, I'm glad it got the spotlight here finally with this great rendition. I can never get enough solo piano. -
Condolences/Prayers/Best Wishes to Reuben Kee's Family
Thrull replied to djpretzel's topic in Announcements
I'm so sorry to hear that Reuben Kee is no longer with us. I had always hoped on the off chance that I would bump into him some day just to have the opportunity to tell him personally how amazing his music is. I don't think there's another composer like him, not just on OCR but anywhere. I can only imagine what an amazing person he must have been, for those who knew him. It's going to be hard to listen to Ascension to Cosmo Canyon dry-eyed after this. Wherever you may be ascending to, RK, know you will be missed. -
OCR01626 - Final Fantasy VII "Mark of the Beatsmith"

One of my favourite remixes on the album. I especially like the use of bells. -
OCR01532 - Seiken Densetsu 3 "At First Innocence"
Thrull replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The lack of tuning gives this a really unique sound, I think it not only fits the theme of innocence better but also meshes with some of the other instruments more effectively than a perfectly tuned guitar would. I really dig the overall sound/atmosphere, this is a keeper. The only part that bugs me personally is the ending, just kinda peters out. -
I really like this mix, seems quite fully realized. The very start reminds me a bit of Enya's style. Lot of deapth here. As a side note... I do wish more of Terranigma's tracks would get remixed. I really like some of them, but I see so many remixes of this town song. Even a remix of a remix of this song! Its not a bad song, its quite endearing. This is probably my favorite rendition of it. But there are some other great tracks in the game that deserve attention. I'd like to see someone find a place for that simple yet sad tune you first hear in that plant room with the waterfall (been so long since I played it, I can't remember where exactly, but you hear it a few times in the game). Or the opening/ending themes. I used to just listen to the original versions in winamp, I liked them so much.

I haven't read the rest of this thread, but I'd just like to say that the only boss I never had the willpower to beat, was that goddamn blob at the end of the incredibly long "random dungeon" side-quest in Lufia 2. So you go through this incredibly long dungeon full of random crap, and you start it out with NONE of your equipment and ALL levels gone, and the whole point is to build up from nothing, beat the last boss, and get some special prizes, like a miniature game within a game, except that the prizes help you in the real game. Some really good equipment. Thing is... the last boss has a set amount of HP and you have only a few turns to kill him. Meaning, if you went through that entire goddamn dungeon (going from level 1 to higher than you are outside the dungeon), and didn't get powerful enough for him at the end, you are screwed! I spent days working through the dungeon in what I considered an "optimal" fashion (cheating with state-saves to try for the best random factors each step) and he owned me, over and over, no matter how many ways I tried it.

Thrull replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I can't get this mix out of my head. It keeps playing when I turn the music off. That's got to be a sign of an awesome remix! Great lyrics, if a little hard to understand at times. I love it. -
