  1. What kind of style do you seek? Are you going fully modern? Or are you looking to give it just a slight upgrade? By slight upgrade I mean like maybe a slightly newer console than Amiga.

If you were thinking to go full 16-bit console style, I'd be your guy, so long as I could find a decent source. VGM/VGZ or MIDI formats would be something I could use. Here's why I'd be the guy for that

If you're looking for something else, do let me know while I seek out something I could use.  I am capable of more than chip sounds. Meanwhile, see if you can do a VGM dump of the tunes with an emulator or something. That may help future candidates.

  2. I'm updating this with several collaborative works. All of these were initially written by swosp, and what you hear in all of these tracks contain varying degrees of alterations to the original composition.

The first one is kinda vaporwave and utilizes the Sonic 3 sound driver.

Next, I kinda just played with the sounds until I found something that sounded just right to me. Also kinda mellow, but not as mellow as the first one in this reply.

Next is some of the heavier stuff swosp wrote for a symphonic metal side project.

And here's the one that got him started sending me his MIDI. At the time when I made this, I had no knowledge of his old metal project, for which he had originally written this. He had uploaded it as an 8 bit chiptune, and my first thought was to not just Genesize it, but metallize it as well. This is the result of my work with it.

If you just search Google for "Satiment Alidwel Grothen," you'll find not only the 8 bit version, but not too deep into the results is the original rendition under the band name "Absilentia."

Here's swosp's Newgrounds page. He's rather versatile, as he also produces beats and EDM (and then some).

I’m probably gonna pick up the RYM2612 because based on the sound examples and what you made with it it is worth the price and will help me achieve some of those sought after genesis tones that my current synths and plugins can only kind of get.  I can get some nice Genesis esque tones from my Volca FM but it is very limited in its capability being that its bascially a toy and has limited midi I/O options.  Thanks for sharing all the info and if you do make a tutorial on this subject make sure to tag me in it so I can find it easily cuz I’d totally watch it.

    Cheers!

Hey, just a quick note, if you use Reason, you can get RYM2612 as actual hardware. I suppose you would need a MIDI keyboard to use it, though.

Inphonik (the developer) is very attentive to user feedback and questions, if you have any. They're based in France, keep that in mind as far as time zones go.
