  1. That's up to the artists to decide, I think. But the director for the album can make the determination.
  2. After discussing with ToN, we're probably going to go with the second option, with the following strategy. Let's use Kanto as the example: A remix would be written by an artist for Bulbasaur. Another artist would then take the Bulbasaur remix and use it as a guidepost to write a remix for Ivysaur. The idea would be to make an "evolved" version of the Bulbasaur remix. A little more intense or energetic, possibly bringing in other sources from the game. Another artist would then build off of the Bulbasaur and Ivysaur remixes and write the Venusaur remix. Again, more intense/energetic, possibly bringing in other sources. The same would be done for Squirtle and Charmader and their respective evolutions. Rather than 9 individual, unrelated remixes, we would have 3 sets of remixes that share thematic ideas. This gives the artists in the sets a chance to collaborate in fun and interesting way, while still having the freedom to bring their own ideas to each individual remix.
  3. First off, not gonna run this because I have other things I need to focus on. So I'd be looking for a director that I can mentor through this as an "executive producer." The idea is Pokémon album in the same vein as The Eevee EP. The focus this time will be on the different starter Pokémon from each generation. There are about 18 starters right now in the core series (not counting Pokémon Yellow's Pikachu). The way I see it there are two ways to do this: We could do an 18 track album with one remix for each starter in all 6 of the regions featured in the core series so far. We could do a 9 track album with one remix for each starter and each of their evolutions (Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur, Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise), and then do other regions as followups in the style of Vampire Variations or BADASS. I know ToN is interested in possibly running this, but if we do the second option, maybe we can get a couple of other directors to handle other regions in parallel. So while ToN runs the Kanto album, someone else could do Johto or Hoenn.
  4. The Sigma Fortress Remix Gauntlet (Main Competition Thread) Voting for round 9 is now open, and will end on Saturday, October 17, at 6PM EDT. Your name First place choice remix name Second place choice remix name Third place choice remix name Your Team Name (if you have one) Please use the forum's bulleted list feature, as shown above, and please do not "creatively misspell" remix names; copy the remix titles from the list above to avoid any mistakes. Do not include NUMBERS in your list, i.e. your first choice should be "Remix Title," not "1) Remix Title." Please copy your team name from the following list so that capitalization is consistent: Desert Catz Dopplergangers Faster than Light Maverick Astley Nightmare Tank Police Rock Hard Mandrills Sigma's Enigma Team Zero Treble THE SIGMA FORCE Vintage Reploid Squad Wily's Rejects X-Square Zero Tolerance This is really important, because it'll help me plug your votes into my tallying spreadsheet without a lot of hassle. Voting in the proper format will help expedite the tallies being done. Thank you! Things to keep in mind when voting: The most important thing to consider when voting is how well the remix incorporates and arranges both themes. Production and enjoyability should also be considered, but this is primarily an arrangement competition. The sources have been linked above for your reference. Everyone is allowed (and encouraged) to vote, including competitors. Competitors should not place their own team's remix in their rankings, regardless of whether they are the remixers for that round or not. However, by voting, they will earn a first place vote for their team's remix. If you are on a team, you must post what team you are on in your vote so I can make sure your team gets your voting bonus. If you do not specify your team, I cannot guarantee that your team will receive a voting bonus. You are required to make an actual decision for each choice, meaning, you cannot declare a draws or a ties for different places. This will be counted as not voting and your vote will not be counted. Do not post reviews in the voting thread. Compile your reviews for each round into a single post in the main competition thread. Post only once in each voting thread. Everyone must adhere to the Competitions Code of Conduct.
  5. I think maybe instrumentation plays into it too. You generally don't hear a lot of brass in town themes unless the town is very specifically a regal kind of castle town. I think that what you've got in Prontera and a lot of Final Fantasy and Tales of town themes is a focus on woodwinds as leads. Maybe oboes, flutes, and clarinets evoke a kind of idyllic feeling?
  6. It's an older thread from a few years ago that fits the new forum we've created. BardicKnowledge is the moderator for this new forum which will be focusing on ludomusicology, and Gario's theoretical analysis of certain VGM pieces fits the goal of this forum. Ryan (Bardic) will be updating this forum tomorrow with a goals/guidelines post about what types of threads belong in here, but the gist of it is that this forum is dedicated to a more academic discussion of existing VGM, be it historical, analytical, etc.
  7. Yeah. This is at the heart of what a lot of union negotiations boil down to: defining what "is" is. You can say something like "I fail to see why your late ass shouldn't be fined for wasting the publisher's money and the studio's time" and that sounds perfectly reasonable because people generally understand that you shouldn't be late for work. But what if you hit traffic? What if you have an emergency? What if you're sick? What if you get into an accident on the way to the studio? What if the dev miscommunicates the studio recording times? What if the dev told you to go to the wrong studio? What constitutes "late?" 5 minutes past call time? 10? Half-an-hour? What if you're 1 minute late and the publisher decides to slap you with a $2500 fine? What constitutes "wasting the publisher's money and the studio's time?" Who gets to the decide what wasting time is? In the bit Bleck quoted, the word "attentive" is being contended. They have to clearly define what they mean by attentive, because the repercussions for not being "attentive" are pretty severe. A lot of people goof off at work every once in a while. What if whenever you goofed off, your boss took $2500 out of your paycheck? Collective bargaining is all about working as hard as you can to clearly define the terms of the contract that everyone is going to abide by. Everyone in the union plays by the same rules, and management has to treat everyone in the union equally and according to the terms of the agreement. And everyone, generally speaking, has to be on board with the agreement.
  8. Round 9 music is up. Voting thread tomorrow. Sleepy now. http://darkesword.com/compos/sfrg/Sigma%20Fortress%20Remix%20Gauntlet%20-%20Round%209%20(Sigma%20Stage%202%20%5BX3%5D).zip
  9. You can't use UMDs in a Vita, if that's what you mean. If you have those games digitally, then you can check a compatibility list. Generally speaking though, PSP games work on Vita. Not sure about PSP data carrying over but I think it's possible. Main game for Vita would be Persona 4 Golden. That's the system-seller-killer-app. Other games would be Muramasa: Rebirth and Street Figher x Tekken (I've been told that the Vita version is actually the best version of the game available). Gravity Rush is also fun. There are plenty of cross-play PSN games too. Fez, Dragon's Crown, etc.
  10. Alas. Music will go up tonight, scoring will be updated this week. No bonus 10th round this year. I think people are tuckered out. Thanks for remixing, everyone!
  11. Music is up. Worked a bit on scores today. Will work more this week to get up to date.

  14. We're going to pause for a bit so that we can spot check all of your contributions. Very happy you guys have stepped up to do this. Just need to make sure you guys are on point. Will update with new assignments soon.
  15. Congratulations on your wedding! That's a huge playlist!
  16. Why haven't you provided links to trailers or a press release? When creating a thread about an upcoming game, it's not enough to just say "they're making this." You ought to provide some links to official announcements to where people get get more information. Also, I understand your excitement but try not to make your thread sound like advertising copy. "Get your phones ready?" Really? :\ Also, make your thread title about the actual subject of the post, not some weird vague BS like "THE FOURTH WALL HAS BEEN BROKEN"
