  1. Brandon I don't know where you "left notes" for me but I don't think I got them. Can you PM me a list of people that need access to the FF3 forum? Tera hit me on Twitter so she's all good, but if you need someone else let me know.
  2. Welcome back Mak! Remember, you're responsible for 3 remixes before the competition's end.
  3. Snare's a bit too loud. Not a fan of the drums having all that reverb on them. I feel like if you're doing a big dreamy kind of texture with your melodic instruments, you need to be really careful with your percussion and make sure it isn't boomy and flooding the soundscape with reverb tails everywhere. Not feeling like the guitar treatment of the melody is enough of an arrangement; when things switch off there's a little more creativity, but the guitar is taking it too straight. Gotta agree with Kris; this feels aimless, like the start of something that could be a lot better. Needs more interpretation and a more controlled soundscape. NO, resub
  4. I think it sounds really clean. I can hear what Kris is saying about the dissonance but there's nothing egregious; I'd just chalk it up to some interesting harmonic choices. They keep me guessing but never make me cringe. This is one of those pieces that makes you sit up and pay attention. Really like everything going on here. Sounds like everything came together really well. Very creative. YES
  5. This isn't Jazz Jackrabbit 2, this is from the first Jazz Jackrabbit game. Played this a lot as a kid. Inclined to say NO here. Guitar playing is competent but this feels like a straight up cover of the original with some good guitar noodling. The bell synth REALLY isn't working at all for the syncopated accompaniment. The guitar is just playing over a bed of sonic mush. Things get worse when the string stabs come in. You gotta take this back to the drawing board. Guitar sounds fine, but everything else needs a lot of work. NO
  6. Holy hiss, Batman. What's going on with the recording here? That hiss is insane. Arrangement is gorgeous; was not expecting the rock development in the back half, but it sounded great. Lots of emotion, great performance. Can we get a version of this that's de-hissed? YES?
  7. Man I have to disagree. I am really not feeling this at all. I feel like the instruments are all vying for attention. Everything is so in-your-face and they all have this very exposed, fakey quality. I also feel that with a track that's under 3 minutes, you recycled one of the more creative ideas nearly verbatim in the second half (the slowed down section). Even then, the slowed down section sounds disjointed in a way that doesn't feel intentional. Maybe I'm assuming too much, but I'm gonna have to say NO on this one.
  8. That electric piano feels so exposed at points; very mechanical. Would have loved a more organic performance. Have to say though, overall, I totally dig this groove. It's like a summer anthem for robots. I love when you've got these big swelling synths in there; you get that huge sound but it doesn't get overwhelming. Nice. Really cool arrangement. I like it. YES
  9. Yeah I agree with Kris. What's going on here? This sounds so hollow. I listen to a lot of 80s music (love "Danger Zone") and while you're hitting everything on the head in terms of style, the production and mixing in this is way off. I'm hearing light clipping here and there, and your vocals are getting lost in the mix. There's this really weird stereo separation on the drums. I want to say yes, but this really needs some TLC on the production side. NO, resub
  10. Killer retro sound. Love the texture and the part-writing is awesome. Very clean. YES
  11. Giving you guys a 10 minute lead this week because I might be busy at exactly 5PM. This week's theme is Cyber Maze Core from Mega Man X5.
  12. Therein lies the challenge. It's not always going to be easy. Focus in on other aspects of the piece.
  13. Tempo tags now have definitions in the master sheet linked in the first post. Here they are: tempo-fast - ReMixes that are generally >130 BPM. tempo-moderate - ReMixes that are generally between 130 and 90 BPM. tempo-slow - ReMixes that are generally <90 BPM. Use these definition as guidelines, but also go by feel and trust your ear. If something is 95 BPM but just FEELS SLOW, tempo-slow is probably fine.
  14. Hey guys, I removed the duration tags from the form. We're going to handle that programmatically. Don't worry about duration.
  15. live-recording is the entire piece of music having been recorded in one take, like a concert recording. live-instrument is used in something like a track where a live instrument is actually played and recorded. OCR00087 doesn't have live instruments. It's sequenced.
  16. I love the idea of click-bait headlines pertaining to SFRG. "This guy gave 13 remixers a week to make Mega Man X remixes. The results will BLOW YOU AWAY."
  17. Also, let's be clear. This wasn't a surprise to us. Brett from Capcom-Unity emailed us and let us know they were using the MM25 track in the announcement trailer months ago when they were first announcing this game.
