Yeah.. that's what I'm inclined to expect the prices are. I'm just a bit confused because my brother once purchased Secret of Mana for $40. Was the shopkeep just an asshole or is that just a really expensive game for some reason?
-
Also wondering if anyone knows what kind of prices I'll probably be looking at for SNES and N64 games at these stores.

Program-wise, I use Winamp for MP3s/Oggs etc (compressed sound files), and mplayer2.exe for (nearly) everything else. I bring in VLC or QuickTime if all else fails. Media Player Classic is alright, but I think the name is a slight insult. What I'm using is what I consider to be the 'classic' windows media player. When I watch a video, I have very simple requirements. I want it to be able to play what I want to watch, I want to be able to pause or start it with the spacebar, I want to be able to full screen it with Alt+enter, and I don't want it to waste additional RAM doing other elaborate things I have no interest in. EDIT: If I'm not mistaken.. mplayer2.exe is absent in Vista. I'm glad I still use XP.

Thanks. I'm scheduling this trip for next Thursday, the 12th. So when that time comes, I'll plan to go to the best or closest of what has been suggested. Or maybe I'll go to all of them. =D lol

I just got $75 for my birthday recently, and was thinking it would be nice to pad my snes/n64 collection. Replace a few games I've lost, get a few games I never had. There used to be a really cool retro video game store in Ventura on Main street. It had Mario and crap painted on the windows. But it's gone. I live in Santa Barbara, and would like to plan a trip anywhere up to maybe 3 hours in any direction, to visit a good vintage video game store. So I'm here to ask if anyone knows of some good places. Before you refer me to Google, allow me to explain that 95% of what searching the internet produces in this area are online stores. I don't want to place an order online and wait for shipping. I want to browse in a physical retro video game store atmosphere.

That's cool. I think I remember pretty well what it was I did anyway. I think I will try to redo and update it sometime soon, even though not for this project. Don't take this as a definitely*, but I may try and see if I can do something about Track 14 > Inside the Egg (18/96) ->. An epic piano arrangement might be possible (if some melancholy / tripped out solo piano is close enough to the genre restrictions that is). I'll just need a few days to listen to it on repeat and make a few visits to my mom's house where the piano is, to determine whether it's something I can do. EDIT: Heh, as a first initial task to begin memorizing the source material, I've broken Inside the Egg into sections, which I have named guitar hero style: (0:00) intro (x2) (0:38) sudden craziness (0:44) bass and trills (0:53) indian buildup (1:12) rachmaninoff breakdown (1:22) one last trill And I'm currently also tracking it into FL Studio by ear with my mouse (broke my keyboard =( ) so at the very least, I'll have a good quality as pre approved by me reference midi file for anyone if someone else ends up doing it. - one final edit to this post: I've got the source material memorized, made up a notepad file with a lot of notes outlining the main structure of the piece along with some ideas for details. starting to feel pretty excited about the potential. it will be solo piano but not entirely live. some sections digitally altered/layered, etc. and hopefully some dignified ambience to back it. Sound good? * at this point, you can take it as a 'probably'

It's so awesome to hear this again. Thanks again. Although... lol, there wouldn't happen to be any other versions on you would there? I remember one of them had a part where I layered a few parts pitch shifted an octave down and up, which sounded quite trippy. Can't remember if that was an older version or a later version.

I'm all for using alternate voicings/inversions being applied to source melodies... but the way you've kept the melody mostly the same (within itself) and transposed it all at once I'm finding a little awkward on some parts. Transposing the whole melody at once to make a different flavor to the melody I think should mostly be restricted to simple melodies that just so happen to work all throughout that way. First example of this that comes to mind is DJP's Pachelbel's Ganon (haven't heard it in a while but I think it fits the description). To clarify what I mean, the melody here is playing in (what would be, in the original) E minor, while the key of this remix is B minor. So when the melody gets to the high C, first at :26, you can hear the awkwardness. The scale of B minor in the dorian mode, does not have C natural in it. I guess what I would be suggesting is to go through the melody and find notes that don't sound as right as the others, and try moving them up or down within a few steps to something that fits better. This could even have a side effect of giving it more liberty, which I guess is what the judges are into these days. By the way, I just now remembered/linked up your name in my memory. We're buds from back in the day xD. I hope my critiques aren't too harsh. Do know that looking past the slightly awkward, to me, scale stuff, I actually really like this. Also know that in the past, I've been known to complain a lot about things like missed or awkward notes, so the fact that I can see past that and enjoy this does say a bit. The portamento square-y synth is quite jazzy. I like it. =) One thought that just randomly occurred to me, which may or may not be a good idea, but what if you very lightly gave the lead whistle sound some sort of filter variations, lightly throughout or in certain parts? Give the whistle more of a voice, so to speak.

I don't wanna be a nuisance or anything prophet, but let me know about if you find that WIP or not. Just cause I'd be so happy to hear it again.

The production quality on this is awesome (from my perspective anyway). What are you using for drums, if you don't mind me asking? I can never get drums to sound that.. full and fluid, yeah, that's a good way to describe it. Also quite impressive that you were able to take such brief source material and turn it into something that long that doesn't get boring.

Are you home yet?

I wanna hear Rexy's version. Also, desperately hopeless though it may be, does anyone have my old WIP lying around anywhere? The filename would probably be something like eagle.mp3 or eaglewip.mp3 or eagle2 3 4 or 5... *le sigh* I'm gonna be getting a piano in here pretty soon. Maybe I'll look over what (if anything) is left, trackwise.

I prefer version 7 myself.. and yes I bought it, boxed. Don't buy it boxed. Their little secret is you don't get the lifetime free updates unless you buy and download it online. At least that's how it was for 7, they might have changed that if they have any decency. Unlike some of you, I can still hold left shift and click to slice things. Anyone miss that? =D

It's such a shame that I got separated (and still am) from my piano. I had a solo piano WIP of the Eagle Tower theme that had a lot of potential. If only I had a portable recorder.. oh wait. I know someone with a laptop. But it's long since taken now. Does anyone have a link to Rexy's Eagle Tower mix so I can bitterly judge it? *sigh* EDIT: I can't seem to find the old Eagle Tower recording either. Sadness.

I lost my Windows XP cd, and I need to be able to read Japanese web pages. Is there anything I can do?

Did you put a period anywhere in your file name? One time I named a project crap.crap.com and then ran into a similar problem. I eventually found the .com (not .flp) file in the 'Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 7\Data\Projects' folder, whereas I hadn't been able to see it in FLStudio itself because FLStudio was only showing files with appropriate file extension.

FL is resampling my samples to the wrong tempo

Are there any tempo events in your song? -
Ignore this guide. You don't have to make the guy before you sound so dumb. Sure he was brief and simple, but it very well may be helpful to an amateur. The rest of your post makes perfect sense to me and I'm in total agreement, but I also noticed that there was nothing in it that would actually help someone who doesn't already know what he's doing. You basically said, 'for each different thing, you have to do completely different stuff, and it's really complicated.' That doesn't really help a newbie. Your ears are your best friend, we all know that. But obviously some people's ears haven't already solved all their problems. At least this guy's post gives the OP what we call direction. What this means is, at the very least, instead of a timid beginner listening to a pattern of flat, even hi hats over and over again, trying to figure out which note's velocity to change first and where, they can make the alternate ones a little quieter, take in -that- effect, and edit as they see fit from there. I'll translate his post for people who don't need his help though: There is some method to the madness. Until you develop an advanced feel for making your music more human, know that- A) In basic 4/4 time pieces, outside of moments of intended syncopation or variation, the first and third beats are generally more stressed than the 2nd and 4th, and A strong weak strong weak alternating pattern is fairly common, and may be useful to apply very subtly to strings of notes where you intend them to be considered roughly equal loudness, but don't want it to sound mechanical. But take this all with a grain of salt, as it is meant as a simplified cheat sheet for a beginner. Do not simply always apply this exact pattern with no randomness. I strongly encourage you to focus on experimenting with all sorts of different stress patterns, and only consider the previously described information as needed.

Ew, you use version 8. Crashed my FL. But yeah, I do love 3xOsc.

Account name thing: I applied a password to the account and set the screensaver to password protect upon resume.. When I came back it displays not the welcome screen exactly but a login window with the account's previous name (nimskit) filled in. Entering the password and hitting enter got me in.. so apparently it's still called both.. right now.. Any help?

DVD drive is on a seperate cable. Main IDE is set to master, other one though I'm missing the jumper, so I'll have to find one. I believe the cables are plugged appropriately, based on what you said about the closer one being master. As far as the account name change, I'm not sure as I've never been entirely clear on the details of the administrator account thing. It's name was "Nimskit" before I changed it.. now it's Reckless Gint. How would I go about checking?

You can use MIDI out channels to control your keyboard, and have your keyboard's audio recorded into FL Studio. I can help with the latter part (audio recording) but unfortunately someone else will have to help you figure out the MIDI out stuff cause I've never been able to figure that out myself.

First off, my specs can be found here: http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T-Series&model=T6410 I bought this computer off a guy somewhat used, and added a few of my own parts to it (M-Audio soundcard, bigger RAM stick, one SATA hard drive and one IDE hard drive). Problem number one is that it's having trouble consistently booting to the right drive. The drive I have the OS installed on is the IDE drive it came with. When it starts, it displays a big emachines 'e' logo with two options, BIOS and boot menu. For a while, boot menu would list all the options, but BIOS would only show the SATA drive half the time (EDIT: let me rephrase, about half the time, it would show the SATA drive but nothing else). Now though, it only detects the SATA drive no matter what, that is when they're all plugged in. Right now I'm booted to the IDE hard drive it came with (we'll call it IDE 1) and this is possible because I unplugged the other IDE (my old one, we'll call it IDE 2). I'm not sure exactly how that helps, but it does. My BIOS lists 8 possible drive slots, "IDE" channels 1 through 4 (which are actually the SATA plugs), and IDE channel 5 and 6 masters and slaves. A DVD drive is plugged in as channel 6 master and that consistently gets recognised, but channel 5 is entirely ignored when everything's plugged in. Feel free to ask for any important pieces of information I may have forgotten. As far as other problems go... I changed the name of the administrator account, and now whenever the computer starts up, I get a message saying "The system could not log you on." Just a minor little annoyance. And the user folder in documents and settings is still under the old name. Anything I can do about this? Though it's not really a big problem or anything.

Now I'm confused. I haven't changed anything, but it's working properly right now. I'll post again if it comes back.
