  1. Yo, I've been playing piano for about 11 1/2 years. I was trained in classical up until a year or two ago, but I dabble in things like rock, jazz, video game music, more contemporary stuff, etc. I can play by ear pretty well. I have a pretty decent recording setup now. M-Audio Delta 66 i/o box, Alesis 12 channel mixer, two M-Audio Solaris condenser mics, and a medium grand Baldwin piano. If you wanna hear some of my playing, you can go here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/7/mikuonpianomusic.htm I haven't really recorded/uploaded much in the way of technically difficult stuff up there, but the most recently uploaded track there (Reminiscence, new stereo recording) is a decent representation of the sound quality of recordings I'm capable of currently (aside from the clipping). EDIT: I just recorded and added Fantasie Impromptu to my soundclick page. It's far from the best performance that's ever been done of it... but well that's me for you. ^^ GAH, just heard some sort of loud pop at 3:16. I've no idea how that got there or what caused it. Didn't hear it while recording... aw well. I'm not putting that recording on a CD or anything. Can't say I'm proficient in every style of playing, but if you need my help I'll do my best. EDIT: Just noticed, Silverwolf, on your soundclick site, it says "Prelude in Eb" but isn't it E? P.S. Nice playing. I like that piece. Although the fade-out at the end was kinda a let down. =(
  2. =X nobody? Just a link to a site where I can get drum samples in general would help too. Preferrably not soundfonts, but if I have to I'm sure there are programs for extracting individual samples from soundfonts.
  3. I'm looking for some drum samples that sound kinda.. iono.. industrial, dirty, something like that. Something like in SGX's Kick Your A and Beatdrop's Strip Mine. That and/or pointers on how to get that sort of sound with processing and whatnot. Speaking of which, what exactly is drum layering? I hear that all the time but I'm not sure what it is. Is it what it sounds like it means, i.e. different drum samples playing in unison? EDIT: Zircon answered that question in another thread. I was right in my assumption, hooray.
  4. Excellent arrangement, wonderful performance, good enough recording quality (aside from the hiss on the left). This is great. Chopin is my favorite composer, and this is definitely reminiscent of some of his waltzes. I was really excited to hear this when I read about it on the judges decisions forum a day or two ago, and although I might have been even more impressed if it were styled after something like Fantasie-Impromptu or the Polonaise in A-flat, this is quite wonderful. I also hope to have a piano arrangement (or several) on this site eventually. My hat's off to you, Bladiator.
  5. Say you have two notes holding, an A (220 hertz) and the A above it (440 hertz). You adjust the fine tuning dial up a bit, and say it brings the higher note up to A# (476ish hertz?). Like Robocop said, pitch shifters and tuners etc. multiply/divide frequencies and maintains harmonic relationships. So assuming the upper note goes from 440 to 476 hertz, the lower note goes from 220 hertz to 238 hertz, an increase of only half as many hertz. Robocop's asking for something that will raise everything by the same amount of hertz, not proportionally, but absolutely. So no, a fine tuner doesn't do that (unless by fine tuner you're referring to something other than the dial found in lots of VSTi's and such which changes the pitch and is measured in cents).
  6. This is just amazing.. Some day I hope to make something like this. The only thing I'd change would be to put a bit of a fade-out at the very end (there is a bit of noise, and it just cuts off). But other than that, this is one of the most beautiful arrangements I've ever heard.
  7. I personally like the kick and think it fits just fine. This is an awesome mix.
  8. I hate to be the only person who doesn't have something good to say about this mix, but.. It just doesn't do it for me. From the changed chords and notes sounding awkward in a few parts, to the altered timing-- I can't help but not really like it. It's relaxing, I'll give it that. But it would have gotten a 'no' from me, had I been a judge.
  9. I forgot about vocoders, I'll have to try that. Well, once I find out where my XLR cable went. *sigh* Thanks for the link. =D
  10. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but is there any decent free voice synthesizing plugin or program? Kind of like the thing in Fruity Loops, but better? I'm especially interested in a British sounding voice, like the one in the demo version of the Microtonic drum VST. ("You should consider purchasing your copy of the Microtonic!" =D)
  11. What do you know, it turns out Fruity Loops was not maximized, but appeared that it was due to the window being the size of the screen. Maximizing it eliminated the problem.
  12. Is there any way to make FL Studio not hide my task bar and keep me from knowing if someone AIMs me? Other than turning on AIM's incoming message sound.
  13. Oh snap. Didn't realize that'd do it. Thanks. I don't suppose the other thing is possible? (copying/pasting velocity info to another set of equally timed but different notes) Guess that is kind of a long shot..
  14. Alright, FL question. Is it possible to edit entire selections of velocity data in the piano roll at once? I mean like, A: Is there any way to copy and paste velocity data and apply it to another selection of notes that aren't exactly the same, and B: Is it possible to raise or lower the velocity information of a selection without significantly changing the notes' velocity differences in relation to each other? Other than doing it manually, one note at a time... In fact, if anyone has any sort of info about velocity editing in FL that can make it easier or faster, do tell.
  15. Thanks. As for the korean instruments, I downloaded a shakuhachi font, and it seems like it'll do the job for the korean bamboo flute thing. Trying to find a good silk string instrument sounding thing. I've downloaded a shamisen soundfont, and it sounds alright. http://www.sf2midi.com/index.php?page=sdet&id=3763 But I'm trying to find one that sounds a little more.. metallic I guess. What would be really nice is one where it sounds considerably more twangy and metallic on higher velocities.
  16. Iono, interested in a variety of different styles, but at the moment I'm mostly looking for some typical dance drums. Especially trying to find a good strong hi-hat sound, one that how do you say, has some meat on it. A good full sound. Realistic drum soundfonts don't seem to have this, I mean the type heard in dance music. Also, I'm looking for some asian / Korean sounding instruments. I'm going to remix Ancient Groover from Ragnarok Online and I'm looking for some sort of flute and string instruments reminiscent of the ones used in it.
  17. Anyone have a good techno/trance drum soundfont? I need something like that... or do people use VSTs for techno drums?
  18. *wanders on in after wasting away on Ragnarok Online for the past 10 thousand months* Wow, it finally got to the judges. O_O And made it too XD~ I'm glad you guys like it. Y'know I made it in Fruity Loops. Kekekekeke More later, I didn't sleep last night so I'm kinda out of it. *_* *looks at sig* Whoa... where'd I get a squiggly font liek that..
  19. i dont know anything about vibrato, but if that means where you hold your finger on the fret and like... wiggle it, to produce a wobbling sound, then cant you do the same thing without your fingers? I mean, the tool used for violins to pull across the strings to create the sound, cant you move that hand pulling the tool to create vibrato, thus making any open string have the effect intended? and i dont think there is any way you can make the vibrato delay on the soundfont if its built into the sound, but i could be wrong. The only solution i can give is to get a soundfont that has no vibrato at all and adjust it yourself by adding it in. And if you can take out or delay the vibrato, its probably a lot easier to add it into a font then delay/take it away. (sorry if im confusing or didnt help, just trying to help as much as i can) Yeah, I was thinking I would probably have to find one without vibrato and add it in... Does anyone know of some solo string instrument soundfonts (like violin, cello, etc.) that come without vibrato? Also, how can one apply vibrato and such to a soundfont in FruityLoops? As for creating vibrato on an actual string instrument: The finger wiggling is making the string length rapidly longer and shorter, which makes the pitch go up and down quickly. That's what vibrato is. Wiggling the bow won't do anything to change the pitch; The bow is just what pulls the string a little bit and lets it go back to it's original position very rapidly to create the sound. It's sort of the 'reed' of a string instrument, you might say.
  20. I have a question regarding violin soundfonts and vibrato. I've just completed a Zelda remix using string instruments ( http://remix.overclocked.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18862&start=0 ) and a Roland Violin solo soundfont as the lead instrument. This might sound like a bit of a picky question... but.. well, the soundfont I'm using has vibrato in itself (i.e. the samples were recorded with vibrato) but as you might know, it's not possible (on a real acoustic violin) to do vibrato when you are playing on an open string. For example, if you are playing the G below middle C (umm.. G3) that is the lowest note a violin can play (tuned properly of course). It's played on the lowest string, open, thus there can never be any vibrato on that note for violin. I'm wondering if there's a relatively simple way, whether it involves getting a different soundfont or tweaking something or whatever, to make most of the notes have a delayed vibrato, but have certain selected notes flat. I don't think it's something that's too noticeable on a quick piece like the one I linked to, but I'm just wondering, you know, for future reference.
  21. A10: Fear my mad quoting skillz: Okay, pick a pattern you want it to start on, and right click the tempo once the pattern is high-lighted... then click Edit Events, and it's kinda straight forward from here (* the upper left area would of the whole screen helps a lot, it tells % and stuff) you can just repeat that with any knob in FL enjoy Thanks to ResdntEvilFreak who helped me out with that 5 pages back.
  22. I wonder what it's like to only wait like a week to get a remix posted... Well I really like this ReMix. It would be nice if the vocals were a little bit louder, but it's an excellent job altogether. The lyrics are so cute (and I mean "cute" in a good way; I'm not insulting them).
