Haha, I even had that kind of thought when listening to the track's progress during Brandon's last day of working on it. IRC quotation time: Anyway, will check the tracks out throughout the day. May even be a good distraction from my own progress this week too
-
Hahaha, very common choice. And nicely played too. x) As stated earlier, I shall be playing for the Bad Guy Robots this week. Bring it on!

Not a very tactful response though; it's meant to put many of those so-called 'top watched Youtubers' to shame. But at least we now understand exactly where it ended up being leaked. So, what are the likelihoods of staffing around guitarbackingtrack.com being any saner than Youtube's (and their lack thereof)?
-
It's unfortunate that Elipzo couldn't make it, but at the same time we're glad that someone as initially enthusiastic like yourself is set to give this a shot. Welcome to the game, Mr. L!

I'm not sure what the stance is on ID3 tags, but it may help Darke if you fill it appropriately. I suggest you check the tags for past Mega Man themed competitions for some guidance. As for the bit rate, if there's no specific instructions then go with whatever encoding you're most comfortable with. Usually my preference is with VBR level 2 at 160-320kbps, but it's all up to you unless stated.

I'm tempted to go in there and comment, but you guys keep telling "not to feed the trolls". But it must be some troll if the view count has ended up in six digits already. What can be done about it? EDIT: Stuff that, bit the bullet and went with a friendly (and still non-inflammatory) remark. Will quote it here: And I see someone else already beat me to the punch with a straighter remark. This'll be interesting to see the results for, supposedly. EDIT 2: That reply was quick: And then I asked him which 'backing site' he got it from - seems weird to take one of Sixto's works without any trace of his credit. So far being gentle is working because he didn't scrap any of my comments just yet =P

Well, going from my perspective I feel that one can't exist without another. I started out listening to remixes of scores that I'm already familiar with, or remixes for games that I already played; then when I became aware of more games and checked out their scores the scope for familiar scores would expand. In the event of a game you've already played (or if not played but have witnessed the BGM's presence via someone else playing it e.g. a Let's Play on Youtube), I have a tendancy to listen more for interpretation. An artist has a vision in mind, and they are sure to create that vision to match what that piece of BGM meant for them. Which in turn, would also draw in nostalgia for that purpose. Because they've understood the song even outside of a musical context, they are driven by the feelings inside to create something worthwhile for fellow fans of the game. But if they're remixing something for a game which BGM placement for them is shrouded in mystery, it's all up for interpretation and just making it sound as polished as possible, though sometimes at the expense of cutting the feel of the original. Then if people enjoy it it might encourage a spread of players for said game and witness the original in action. So yes, for the most part it seems to be interpretation, but in a lot of cases both that and nostalgia can exist at the same time. If we didn't have the passion for videogames of the past and present, then why the bloody hell are we here?

OCR02319 - Castlevania "Juese Belmont"
Rexy replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
It already happened before. Let me state that the original OLR version was a classic if only for the lyrical content and sheer imaginative drive. Taking into account the origins, the updated version here actually shows a much more polished and thorough backing arrangement to compliment the timeless vocals, and definitely is a defining component of Shael's style for sure. I got to say though that in spite of this, I thought the vocal delivery wasn't quite as enthusiastic or in-your-face as the original OLR version, which does make it a little bit disappointing somehow; but in spite of this, I am thankful that the legend of Juese has surfaced onto OCR. So way to go Shael, Suzu and Z for contributing to an awesome Halloween night -
So I guess this means we need the Skull Men to decide who's mixing first. Looks like that team is going to have a track record for being fashionably late.
-
I believe you're 1 hour behind, so that would be 11am for you. But with clocks going back over the weeks in different parts of the world, this might be difficult to pinpoint exact times, so I say go for a threshold of 2 hours before the deadline to have it ready just in case
-
Sent my wip in earlier this evening. Hope you get it, Rozo
-
Letting you know that I WILL send you my first wip tomorrow! I have all the details down in this sketch, just need to tidy it up (and even sleep on it) before I send it off x_X

There's a dire lack of Castlevania coverage here. I say you add more to that somewhere... (shameless self-promotion ftw) Nevertheless, here's to a chilling weekend in more ways than one! Props for the setlist buildup
-
But your robot master does so I am not going to take that back anytime soon.

Okay, having seen the hilarity of the team developments, might as well provide bios for the (Skybound) Bad Guy Robots from Mega Man and how we mean business and partial villainy in spite of a weak team name --- PLANT MAN {Pilot: Rexy) Current Hideout: Forest of Bowland, England Likes: Inner beauty, companionship, bright colors Dislikes: Being left out, pollution, Super Mario RPG Current Gaming Spree: Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure A striving and creative Robot Master with the determination to stand tall amongst the crowd, Plant Man was ultimately outcasted from his original home of the Forgotten Area in Brazil due to deforestation. Crushed and bitter about his lost home, he spent the years since in hiding, waiting for the day that he would ever gain the mental strength required to reclaim his rightful home. The Wily Gauntlet drafted him in as a means for him to bite back against the dangers of modern day technology and world damages. Armed with a defensive Plant Barrier techniue, Plant Man may still be quite timid in battle, but he is sure to watch his every step amongst the challenges ahead and pay the utmost care to every footstep taken. --- HORNET MAN {Pilot: Hylian Lemon) Current Hideout: Mark Twain National Park, Missouri Likes: Gardening, writing literature, Mountain Dew Dislikes: Nintendo mascot clones, rain, Navi Current Gaming Spree: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword After his period of use was refreshed, Hornet Man spent much of his time doing some gardening for Dr. Light. His insanely over-the-top approach may not have gone down well with all of his assisting robots (especially Auto), but for the most part it radiated that garden... until one fateful day that he accidentally watered the plants with Mountain Dew. Neither the garden nor Dr. Light's bond with him were the same since. Bittered by the lost trust in humanity, Hornet Man's aim through the Wily Gauntlet is for the pure thought of pushing himself back into Dr. Light's good books... or bust. Armed with the Hornet Chaser attack, he is set to scout out for fresh ideas and take as much of a colorful approach to the gauntlet as he would at his gardening. --- SPLASH WOMAN {Pilot: Brandon Strader) Current Hideout: Lake Erie, Pennsylvania Likes: Karaoke, South Park, collecting musical instruments Dislikes: Sheep, criticism, the President of the United States Current Gaming Spree: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Splash Woman may have had her licence renewed fairly quickly, but her continuing pursuit in the field of music had gained so much of a selfish streak in her that over the months since she'd be considered 'fallen from grace' in the local karaoke bars. Thinking that it meant to change up her act, she literally spent all her non-sleeping, non-eating and non-toileting hours perfecting her act, which at this point has resulted in nothing but a disgruntled audience. Considered a musical outcast, she saw the Wily Gauntlet as an opportunity to reclaim the fame she lost. She refuses to go easy with her laser trident in hand, and with every ounce of willpower and desperation in her, Splash Woman's approach to the gauntlet would be far from tentative! --- And yes, us three are for some reason playing games with the word 'Sky' in the title during this competition.
-
Sorry I couldn't take part this time (was buggered down with more stuff on my plate, and would be moreso with the Wily Gauntlet coming), but I shall at least be able to stick around and vote. For the record, I DID have an idea to down an entire bottle of Smirnoff Ice and write/perform a polka cover of 'I Am the Wind' in the space of one night. Guess the world may never see it now xP

Are you looking for any more takers? o_O -
PRC206 - A Dream Egg Is Calling for Remixes (Xenogears)
Rexy replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
Well, this is a first (second including ice cap); a PRC with the source already covered on OCR? I swore GrayLightning did this Or were the source picking rules made to be more lax since I was last here? -
Yes, yes, YES Let's see, other recommendations I can think of in the recent months: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02241/ (Awesome prog from Lastair, featuring the instrument talents of norg and Snaps) http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02248/ (I can't resist pimping fellow British mixers ) http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02249/ (A throwback to OCR's early days in style? Could be, but still chilling nevertheless) http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02274/ (Another haunting one; Theophany did a beautiful Maridia arrangement for the Metroid anniversary) http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02275/ (Another awesome Metroid anniversary track, and currently my favorite of the mixer-debut posts this year) http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02285/ (One of my fave tracks off Lucid Dreaming, has so much of a playful charm to it) http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02288/ (If you see past the production on this one, you'd see another good mixer-debut here. The writing left me in a flood the first listen ;_; ) http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02291/ (*insert squealing praise for CarboHydroM here*) And also, I believe this recent album is appropriate for all the out-of-the-country service you've been doing

Due to various real life conflicts, the Bad Guy Robots have a tentative mixer order for the first three rounds - Brandon first, then me, then HL (assuming that's fine with everyone involved). Though, this would depend on what days between the 29th and November 19th that Ben would be unavailable
-
Having covered a lot of Mana in the past (a medley for the DoD, couple of tracks on OLR and something in the PRC) I'm game for this one. I call dibs on Color of the Summer Sky ^_~

That is a very valid point and one that takes me back to the rhythm gaming communities (Guitar Hero in particular) - fun to play, but otherwise so painfully elitist. When I first got GH World Tour, what I was hoping to do was to just start on Easy, with the eventual goal of passing everything on Expert guitar (which finally happened just over a year ago when I passed 'Satch Boogie' on Expert for the first time). Along the way to keep improving, and somehow being stumped at some of the expert charts that would take me mere weeks/months to build up the dexterity to manage, I cited Youtube vids for some of the charts, and to see some of those people hitting every single note on some of the harder songs being all "this is too easy/boring to play" (the Ozzy Osbourne tracks in the game in particular), all it was was more inspiration to try and keep improving my methods, even though there were some songs on expert that I couldn't pass for a long time. Then when Guitar Hero 5 came out with the opportunity to play online with different instruments (in which around that time my best 'pass' was 'Bark at the Moon'), that gave me the chance to be more flexible with my playing style. But it annoyed me so much that there would even be many people coming online to pick songs that they would be completely unable to play, AT ALL. And I even noticed a handful of people that couldn't even pass some of the easier songs on medium or something daft. And even if you consider yourself good, you'd still have painfully hard customs to tell you otherwise and the sadistic attitudes behind them. So basically, whether you're a rookie or a very skilled gamer who invested a lot of time into the game, you just can't win at rhythm gaming either.

Under Ben's command, I've changed my avatar for the course of this contest. (Don't worry Crash Bandicoot, you'll be back in your rightful place soon enough.) And epic back story Jason; now I guess I can't imagine Robbie without a bottle of whiskey in his hand instead of a microphone
-
And on that note, the last team is done! Now, let's all build some mad hype for the events ahead
-
Energy Tank and the Mega Ballers are good to go! And Luke/Jake/Chernabogue, please hurry up with a team name from you three!
