  1. Great stuff, the tuneage sets the mood and then the monologue makes it clear what it's about (reminds me a bit of "There's Only Me" by Rob Dougan). CotMM's very good at these twists on the themes of the original song, rather than simply changing the song while it's about the same sorts of things (which the vast majority of game music remixes are).
  2. I'd honestly be more pleased if your next mix was this, with a different lead guitar. Everything else in it is absolutely superb, but that guitar just doesn't sit right to me... ditch the effects, maybe, and just let rip on the guitar as you get towards the end.
  3. It's really, really good in most areas, but that guitar carrying the melody just totally murders it IMO.
  4. I've really got to ask... has anyone performed the mentalist piano live? It's something I'd love to see.
  5. I've been waiting for this to turn up on OCR since I first heard it on VGMix... it's fantastic, relentlessly intense even during its quieter moments.
  6. *stupid strategy guides... when the answer wasn-T insiiide* Curse you, starblast! I've not been able to get this song out of my head. It's just too catchy... like pop at its best, it's simply infectiously enjoyable and unpretentious. Reminds me a bit of that Robo's Theme remix from Chrono Trigger, which I keep forgetting the name of, only with more familiar subject-matter and less clever synth.
  7. This reminds me of Awesome's fantastic Amiga piano ballads... but obviously with higher-quality samples. Fantastic listening...
  8. I think it's a pretty neat song... kinda cheesy, but that's part of the appeal. Nothing particularly grand in the composition (although it has a wonderful 8-bit style to it), but more than listenable all the same. Anyone got the full lyrics?
  9. It sounds good to me, but somehow it doesn't quite hit the spot... partly, I imagine, because I've not heard the original music (I've not played FF6! It's true!), but I also get the feeling it's because I'm listening to it on headphones, when it sounds like it needs some space to breathe. I'll have some nice surround speakers turning up soon...
  10. I've never heard the original of this, so I don't know what sort of an achievement it is in that respect. But it's utterly unmissable. It's one of the few songs I've heard in the past year to actually give me the musical chills. It's utterly incredible. Not as a remix, but as a piece of music. I mean... I don't knkow how to put it into words.
  11. Predictable... Well, predictably excellent, at any rate. It's wonderful, with an incredible number of ideas and variations. The only bad thing is the title, which doesn't suit the track.
  12. MGS Main Theme + Metroid Prime Menu Theme = This? Still lacking a bit of substance, IMO, it could've been filled out more, with a countermelody perhaps, or sharpened up, with stronger, better samples and punchier rhythm.
  13. The opening... wow... so clever and inventive... then the main melody kicks in and... what happened?! It starts to dissapear into a mess of dodgy echoes and mistimed wind instruments... great ideas, but could definately do with some polishing. I'm not sure if it's the samples, or the recording and mixing method, or maybe the hardware itself, Case for a remastering if ever there was one... But then it gets back into clear inventiveness at the end, and it's damned impressive. C'mon, tidy it up and it'll be a masterpiece!
  14. By far, the best piano solo this side of an Amiga .mod There's a slight uneasiness to it at times, I'm not sure if it's intentional, but the timing seems to wobble just a bit. But this doesn't detract from the sheer talent of the playing.
  15. Ah, the lyrics. On their own, as they were in the MGS2 ECTS 2000 and E3 2001 trailers, they're fairly... I don't know, sad, lonely. In the game itself, on the other hand, they're part of a fairly jarring jazz end theme which is just the bewildering cherry on a very confusing finale cake.
  16. I'm a little dubious as to the quality of the samples, but it's all very, very pleasing. Worth it for the opening sequence alone, which makes me want to boot up Elite or something, fire up my ship, and go on a pirate-busting rampage. Launch clearance! VTOL jets to full! Retract gear! JUMP!
  17. Possibly the best interpretation of the MGS Theme melody- puts Mr. Gregson-Williams' version to shame with its scope and scale. The first time that familiar riff kicked in, I got goosebumps.
  18. A truly breathtaking remix of a touching track. Absolutely unmissable.
