  1. Gymnastics competition season starts in a few months, which means I need music for my girls to do floor routines to. That's where you guys come in (I hope)! If you would like to try your hand at writing or remixing music for gymnastics routines, send it my way. If we end up using it, I'll send you a video of the routine (provided it's ok with the kid in question and her parents) Here are the general requirements: -Must be between 50 and 90 seconds. Because it will be short, it should get straight to the point early in the song -Needs to be energetic, but not overly frantic (ie no death metal, DnB, etc) -Needs a brief (10 seconds or so) somewhat quiter/slower/less energetic section somewhere in the middle. I'm not looking for a complete dropout to a slow part, just a slight drop in energy. -Needs a sudden, dramatic ending -Absolutely no vocals, or anything that could possibly be interpereted as vocals (choir synths, voice samples, shouts, etc). -Shouldn't be anything too overly abstract; it needs to be something that can be appreciated by your average joe (or Joanne, as the case may be) -I'll need tracks for the upper-level girls by the end of August. Here are the specific girls/groups I need music for: ROOKIES: (younger, lower-level girls. I'd need the tracks by November) -Should be cute, happy, bouncy. Last year I used the Dr. Mario theme from Smash Bros Melee. -Maximum 60 seconds in length NOVICES, PREP-1s: (mid-level, ages 7 to about 14. Tracks needed by nov) -No specific guidelines for this group aside from the general guidelines above. Songs we've used in the past include Calamitous Judgement by Zircon, Fuego by Bond, Christmas in Sarajevo by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, I Love Rock and Roll, the Pirates of the Carribean, and Splish Splash, Takin' a Bath. -Maximum 60 seconds in length If you have a track you want me to use or if you have any questions, feel free to contact me or just post here. And of course, if you need a guitarist, I'd be happy to pitch in and help (assuming I can play the part, and can find time to record)
  2. Guitars sound great. The very beginning is almost identical to another arrangement I've heard, though I forget where I heard it. I believe it was an official arrangement. The whole thing is a bit muddy. The percussion, bass, and rythm guitars are fighting for control of the same frequency range, it sounds like. EQ them a bit, give them each some space. Snare is repetetive and annoying, with not enough variation in velocity. Good tone on the lead guitar. Piano sounds a bit thin, but not too bad. Strings, though very fake, are a nice touch, and work reasonably well in this context. Awesome synth solo. I love the synth, and the writing on the solo is great. Piano sound is way too thin to hold it's own for a solo. You need a better sample if you're going to have it do that. Organ is alright, but not what it could be. Steel drums? What the fuck? Or are those strings that somehow sound like steel drums? Whatever it is comming in at 3:09 is horrendously out of place. I'd love to hear more from the organ; you bring it in at the end, and then end the track without the organ getting a chance to really do anything significant. I'd bring the organ in earlier, lengthen the track, or leave the organ out entirely.
  3. Overall, I thought this track was decent, but I've heard far better from AE and co. Many of the slightly-off rhymes ("next," "check," "basic," and "it," for example) are quite irksome. Musically, I like the arrangement, but overall this strikes me as something that would work much better in a live setting where the audience can get in on the energy from the emcee, whereas that energy sort of falls flat in the recording. Now as for KogeJoe... Koge, do yourself (and the rest of us as well) a favor and just stop posting in the reviews forum. Your reviews are consistently idiotic, and always based not on the merits of the individual song, but on your opinion of the composer, or the genre, or the game. It's annoying and unconstructive.
  4. Ok, so I'm going to be buying this game. What do I actually need in order to play it? I mean, do I need to get just civ 4 and the expansion, or both expansions, or just the expansion, or what?
  5. I thought it was Crouch who beat Moody in book 5.
  6. I'll get drunk and yell "PENIS" in your honor.
  7. Wow, today's update doesn't have a shred of new information.
  8. Yoshi has a third jump now? 'Bout fuckin' time. His lack of one was about the only thing that prevented him from being one of the best characters in melee.
  9. Ok, back with a bit more of a response. EQ, compression, and production in general takes a long time to master, as has been said before. I'm not surprised you haven't mastered it in 7 months; it took me about a year and a half between my first submitted remix and my first mix to make it past the judges' panel (and that one ended up not going on the site anyway, but that's a different story altogether). And even then, the mix was collaborative; I didn't do all the production myself. A good tip is to just do what sounds good, when it comes to EQ/compression; don't feel that you absolutely have to EQ and/or compress everything, but also don't be afraid to experiment.
  10. Tip # 1 on the remixing and WIP forums: Accept all criticism. Do not lash out at those who criticize your work. So far in this topic, you have demonstrated a complete lack of maturity and ability to listen to others criticism. Criticism is how you get better; when somebody says "you suck," the correct response isn't "fuck you," it's "how can I improve so that I don't suck anymore?" And before you flame me for saying all this, please give it some honest consideration (and also consider the fact that you will be proving my point if you respond by flaming me). Now to answer the original question. There are other sites on which production quality is not such an issue: remix.thasauce, vgmix (if it ever comes back up), and OLRemix. If you want a site that is more willing to accept mixes with low production quality, try going there. I need to leave, but I'll give a more complete response later.
  11. God damn I wish I could have come. Who made the OCR-tan guitar, and how did they make it? EDIT: also, Jill as OCR-tan = teh hawt
  12. Archetype wins this thread.
  13. Here's something interesting; there are exactly two wizards ever to have come in possession of all three Deathly Hallows: Dumbledore and Harry. Dumbledore never actually had all three at once, though. Harry was, at one point, master of all three at once, though he did not actually have the Elder wand in his possession at the time. I don't really like the story behind the Elder wand, though; it seems a bit far-fetched that no owner of the Elder wand has ever died a natural death, and even more far-fetched that Harry expects to live the rest of his life without ever being hit by a disarming spell, which evidently is enough to cause the Elder wand to change its allegiance.
  14. Harmony teaching me and BGC to play Dragon Song:
  15. Use SFZ. It's a VST soundftont player, which I believe comes with sonar. If you don't already have it, you can get it here
  16. Wow.... I don't even know what to say to this. And I'm not making fun of you; I'm in total awe that anybody could be lucky enough to have a wife who will not only play smash, but put up a good fight. I think if I met a girl who could beat me in smash or tetris attack, I'd probably ask her to marry me right there on the spot.
  17. Overall, the book did a fantastic job of tying up all the loose ends. But otherwise, it simply wasn't as good as the rest of the series in my opinion. Too many people die too frequently, so there's no real shock or sadness when they do. Mad-Eye's death seemed like it had no particular purpose other than to say "hey kiddies, wizarding is now serious fucking business." Sirius's death was a mild shock. Dumbledor's death was a huge shock. Mad-Eye's was not a shock, though it seemed like it's sole purpose was to shock. I can see an entire theater cheering when Dobby dies in movie # 7 when it comes out. The stuff filling in about Snape at the end was excellent. Rowling did a brilliant job of giving us the final word on who he really was. What was the point of killing Fred, Lupin, and Tonks, though? Like Mad-Eye's death, those three did not seem to die for any purpose other than a failed attempt to shock the reader. The talk before the final showdown was a bit overblown; seemed like it would have worked ok had it been a movie, but it really didn't work in text. And finally, the epilogue was fucking lame. EDIT: Also, Rowling completely neglected one of my favorite characters in the epilogue: Luna. I really liked her, and I was sort of hoping Harry would ditch Ginny, who's a flat and boring character, and end up with Luna, who is a much more interesting character, and has brought a lot more to the series.
  18. What the fuck is that in the last pic?
  19. If that were my desktop background, I would never ever accomplish anything on my computer again.
  20. SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE Wait, shit, wrong book.
  21. Wait, what the fuck? The only way to use Zero Suit Samus is after a final smash? That's fucking stupid.
  22. The whistle is definitely rough. I just did one quick take to get the idea recorded. Gonna go back and redo it later, once I get the arrangement planned out a bit more.
