  1. Wow.... I don't even know what to say to this. And I'm not making fun of you; I'm in total awe that anybody could be lucky enough to have a wife who will not only play smash, but put up a good fight. I think if I met a girl who could beat me in smash or tetris attack, I'd probably ask her to marry me right there on the spot.
  2. Overall, the book did a fantastic job of tying up all the loose ends. But otherwise, it simply wasn't as good as the rest of the series in my opinion. Too many people die too frequently, so there's no real shock or sadness when they do. Mad-Eye's death seemed like it had no particular purpose other than to say "hey kiddies, wizarding is now serious fucking business." Sirius's death was a mild shock. Dumbledor's death was a huge shock. Mad-Eye's was not a shock, though it seemed like it's sole purpose was to shock. I can see an entire theater cheering when Dobby dies in movie # 7 when it comes out. The stuff filling in about Snape at the end was excellent. Rowling did a brilliant job of giving us the final word on who he really was. What was the point of killing Fred, Lupin, and Tonks, though? Like Mad-Eye's death, those three did not seem to die for any purpose other than a failed attempt to shock the reader. The talk before the final showdown was a bit overblown; seemed like it would have worked ok had it been a movie, but it really didn't work in text. And finally, the epilogue was fucking lame. EDIT: Also, Rowling completely neglected one of my favorite characters in the epilogue: Luna. I really liked her, and I was sort of hoping Harry would ditch Ginny, who's a flat and boring character, and end up with Luna, who is a much more interesting character, and has brought a lot more to the series.
  3. What the fuck is that in the last pic?
  4. If that were my desktop background, I would never ever accomplish anything on my computer again.
  5. Wait, what the fuck? The only way to use Zero Suit Samus is after a final smash? That's fucking stupid.
  6. The whistle is definitely rough. I just did one quick take to get the idea recorded. Gonna go back and redo it later, once I get the arrangement planned out a bit more.
  7. When the farthest-out dot has travelled 1/5 the way around, there will be a very clear 5-sided star. When it's gone 1/4 the way around, there will be a four-sided star. When it's gone 1/3 of the circle, there's a 3-sided star. And so on. I could spend hours delving into the patterns in this thing.
  8. THen click it. In fact, I'd say it appeals to the mathmatically inclined even more than to the musically and artistically inclined.
  9. http://www.coverpop.com/whitney/ Do you like music? Do you like art? Do you like math? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you absolutely must click that link. If you did not answer yes to any of those questions, you probably lead a sad, empty, miserable life, and you have my pity. But click the link anyway.
  10. I actually boosted the lows ont he vox because I wanted it to sound big and boomy. I could back off if you think I overdid it, though...
  11. I just got back from seeing it. I thought that this one, unlike the other four, was very well done. Unlike # 4, which seemed to be made from cliffnotes of the book, this one left out all the right stuff, kept in all the right stuff, and made all the right changes to make it work on screen. Umbridge was brilliant. Luna was brilliant. The entire movie was very well done, and is in my opinion the best movie in the series by far.
  12. No pan flute, but two irish whistles; a high one and a low one. The vocals were inspired a bit by the Lion King OST. EDIT: though actually, I have a pan flute that I may end up working into this.
  13. Are you asking where the ideas come from or how we go about actually executing them? Answer to the first question: Ask ten different remixers this, and I bet five will give you completely different answers, and the other five (inlcuding me) will say "I have no idea." Answer to the second question: there are many ways to do it, and it varies a lot from person to person. How much money are you willing to spend? If you want to do it for free, there are free programs (modplug, noteworthy composer, synthfont, audacity, and others) and free samples (www.hammersound.net) that will help. If you want to do it for cheap (relatively speaking), FLStudio seems to be a good place to start. I've never used it, but it's popular and I've heard some top-notch remixes done with it. In the higher range are programs like Sonar, Cubase, Reason, etc. As for hardware, it really depends a lot on how you're going to go about remixing, and it varies a ton from person to person. Some (but not all) find it easier to use a midi controller. Some (though not many) use full-blown keyboard workstations. Some do it entirely by mouse. And then if you want to record live, that adds another set of expenses (mics, mixers, etc). Whatever your methods, it would probably be a good idea to invest in a decent soundcard. I've used an E-mu 1212M and a Creamware Scope Home card, both of which sound excellent but are a bit complicated and will probably scare the crap out of you if you're just starting. There are probably other people who could do a better job of giving reccomendations here. It would also be a good idea to get a decent set of headphones. Eventually, if you can afford them, good monitors would also be a worthy investment; however, good monitors are quite expensive, and generally require other gear (mixer and/or poweramp) as well.
  14. Latest version: http://h.xerol.org/f.php?f=500 ---------------------------------- http://h.xerol.org/f.php?f=434 Baba Yetu from Civilization 4. Still pretty rough. Funny story about this one: I met Christopher Tin in person at VGL and told him I was working on this (in fact, I hadn't started on it, I just had the idea for it), and he said to e-mail it to him when I'm done. So I figured I should probably actually get started on it and get it past the idea stage. This was originally planned to be a collab with Polar, though he seems to have dissappeared off the face of the earth yet again. Hopefully he'll show up before too terribly long, and I'll still be able to work with him on it.
  15. I'd prefer something free. I'm using Nero Vision right now. I have LAME installed, but it isn't giving me the option to use it in encoding.
  16. Got a new video camera for my birthday, took some videos with it I want to upload to youtube. The videos are too big, though; I'm looking for a program that can encode these videos into a smaller format. It would be nice if it also gave me options for audio encoding; since the sound isn't really necessary, I'd like to take it out entirely, but that doesn't seem to be an option on the program I'm using now.
  17. Seconded on Guitar Suite. That's what I used for the electric guitars in all my mixes that are currently on the site. If you have the money to spare, Guitar Combos and Amplitube 2 are both absolutely worth getting.
  18. Haha, thanks guys! I shall have videos uploaded (hopefully tomorrow) of what I spent my birthday doing
  19. They played Baba Yetu at the concert. Including the massive epic cumshot on the french horn. I was happy.
