The "general public" doesn't care about the theories. The "general public" plays Silent Hill games because they think they're scary, they like the story and gameplay, or some combination of the above. If you expect the filmmakers to find a way to explain some of the most obscure details in the series' to appease hardcore fans (which are fewer in comparison to the "general public") and to somehow make the movie fit in line with the game storyline, then I'm willing to bet you're going to be sorely disappointed. I'm sure everyone will enjoy it in their own way, I just think that people who make Silent Hill details their life will never have the movie live up to their expectations, because let's face it, the movie has to appeal to most, if not all, cinema-goers who plunk down the money to see the film, and the diehard, minutiae-oriented fans can't expect the film to cater to them on such a hardcore level.

Or you know, success could depend on the quality of filmmaking combined with the fact that the world is actually getting a movie based on the Silent Hill games. You're the type of person, with your cockamamey theories and shit, that will never allow the movie to be enjoyed because the filmmaker might not have made the film that fits with your arduous and drawn-out vision of the game. Just enjoy the fact that Silent Hill fans are getting a movie at all, and don't peg success of the movie on all these BS notions that a handful of hardcore fans may subscribe to.

So I just finished a graphic design assignment in which we had to create a webpage for ourselves. The only reason I would post that here is if it had some relevance. There are some definite improvements I could have made to the entire thing, most notably the home page fonts (they are too simple), but I just ran out of time on the assignment. If I had another week, I ould have gone back in and tuned up everything so it was more cohesive. Hopefully it shows up on PCs alright; I designed it using Dreamweaver on a Mac.

You're really going to ruin it for yourself play them all at once.

Silent Hill 2 is the best game in the series, and it's not directly tied with any of the other games. Not to mention it's one of the greatest games ever made, and you should definitely play it.

I think the change is great. He has a more sinister, sinuous look because he's so thin; it really makes him that much more creepy. Although I'm with you on the grates. It doesn't detract too much from his overall look, though.

The poster contest finalists have been put up for voting. http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/silenthill/postercontest/vote/ I don't really think any of them are very good. The last one especially looks too much like a communist propaganda poster. They're all very uncreative, in my opinion. I voted for #1 in any case. I might vote for #3 tomorrow. Can't decide which one I like better.

I got this link sent to me today.

Link please?

Game storytelling and emotion evoking don't get much better. Also, for the quote thing, I think what Angela said to James on the stairs of the hotel at the end of SH2 was probably the most powerful quote in the series.

Irrelevant. Silent Hill 2 is the greatest game in the series, and is the only one that MUST be played. I consider the others (especially 4) optional filler.

Wu, that is fucking awesome.

Thanks Larry! You da man.

^ I think the SH movie is supposed to be more along the lines of an interpretation of the games, rather than actual canon to the series.

Ah, what better way to do that than with a Silent Hill 3 Animated GIF. I wish there were more Valtiel ones...

This film is beginning to send my pants a-twitter.

I hope it isn't in Silent Hill. That's an awful place to lose a burrito.

I was going to say the same thing. This song sounds a lot like the stuff that Yasunori Mitsuda did for Chrono Cross and the Shadow Hearts series. It's a very nice blend of elements from both franchises, and GrayLightning is right: stick it on repeat and this song grows on you. -
Jacob's Ladder is very important to mention, since I'm of the opinion that the Silent Hill series is more or less based off it, in the way that RE can trace its origins to Romero's Dead movies. The confused, disoriented protagonist who finds himself in a subjective and disturbing version of reality (and with a James Sunderland jacket to boot). Strange, freaky monsters who follow him, and who may or may not be torturing him for his personal sins. It's pretty much Silent Hill the movie (though with less actual confrontation with the monsters, as its not a videogame). Hell, the subway in Silent Hill 3 is based off the area of the New York subway that the protagonist is in at the beginning of JL. That movie is awesome. Some really creepy stuff in it. The only thing I didn't really like was how they beat you over the head with the symbolism at the end. I understood the metaphor, and then they basically explained it to me like I was a 2 year old. Overall good movie though.

Session 9, Jacob's Ladder to name a couple. I hear Stay, even though it's recent, is pretty Silent Hill-esque. I'm inclined to think that the arms will look better in motion.

I give this a resounding YES.

I vote for the commercials. I've never seen any of them. Also, in the new EGM, there's a blurb in there about the Silent Hill team creating a brand new horror franchise for the 360.
