Excellent RPG series. I finally found the original Shadow Hearts just the other day and I'm diggin it so far, even if is almost 6 years old now. The second and third just kick ass.

I found Shadow Hearts 1 to be way too simple and low-quality when I finally played it. That, and the translation just seems to get worse and worse as the game goes on, to the point where it becomes painfully obvious the translators only looked at certain lines once.

"To get the n_(162) stone..." Things like that.

  2. 1) Check near the guy who fell from Bhujerba, the key is next to him on the ground.

    2) The three (not two) doors in Nabudis are part of a seperate sidequest. To start it, go talk to Old Man Dalan if there's a nu mou guy in his room.

    3) The sochen door is where Hell Wyrm is. You need to get the key from the crazy guy on Cerobi Steppe, who is around windmill #10.

    4) Go to gamefaqs next time.

  3. Last summer I worked at Wal-Mart in the grocery division. While it was a pretty decent job (it paid better than any other retail outlet in my area), I would much rather get a job doing something more closely related to my field of study, such as a game tester. Alas, I am nowhere near any development studios, so I was sorta hoping I could be one of those stay-at-home testers, but that seems like a real long shot.

It sucks living in a small town.

  4. In true gaming loser fashion, I have decided to do a class presentation on Earthbound. The presentation needs to center around postmodernism, though, so I was looking for the article written way back (it was more like a review, actually... a long-ass review) that explained Earthbound's post-modernistic elements. Googling has turned up nothing of the sort so far, so I was wondering if anyone had kept a link to it, or knows its address.

Free e-cookies to whoever links me to that article/review. Thankees.

  5. I went with friends tonight, and we all agreed it was great. One friend, however, commented on how there was an awful lot of slow-mo during the fights, but agreed with me when I explain it was sort of like a panel in a comic book.

  6. One thing that just completely disappointed me, was that there's no secret bomb a hole in a wall to go on, type deals. nothing. anywhere. They give you all these bombs, but nothing worth doing with them. And no reason to go back and explore dungeons you've already cleared.

What about pieces of heart you may have missed? Granted, you can get them on your first trip, but they're certainly missable.

  7. I played some smash with some other residence guys tonight. I was clearly better than them, but one of the guys did play a mean Ganondorf.

Talking to him, though, was another matter. Though it didn't bother me, I did notice he (Ganondorf player) bitched a lot while playing. It's a habit, I used to talk trash too, so I didn't hold it against him. Thing is, though, he believes all those lousy internet rumours about the next secret characters (the old Ridley, Wind Waker Link, and Bowser Jr. one) so discussing the possibilities of the next game with him was none too pleasant.

Oh well. I still had fun. Didn't feel too intensely competitive, either.

... Yeah. Go Smash Bros, woo.

  8. Messiah and Meta-God from Shadow Hearts 1. They're not hard so much as they are cheap. Messiah uses a move called Holy Chest which, in addition to dealing about 250 damage to all my characters, also halves their current sanity points. When all you've got is about 20 Pure Roots to counter that (and he uses it about once every three turns, sometimes twice in a row), you can't help but feel screwed.

THEN there's Meta-God. All of its attacks do between 250-400 damage on all allies, but everything except his physical attack also has an extra effect! His super move drains about 150 MP from all allies as well as dealing damage, his earth move petrifies, water poisons... And his light-elemental attack, yes, damages sanity. And he'll use his super move and the light-elemental move and the earth-elemental move the most. Bleeeeeergh.

I'm just pissed that I'll have to go all the way back to town for more healing items now.

  9. Beat the game with everyone at 99 and all things obtained within 20 hours. I thought the game was longer than this : /

They must have changed the experience curves or made enemies drop more exp and gil. The SNES version typically takes 40 hours to beat. Most definitely odd...

  10. I meant they're not going to show us any secret characters before the game is released. Chances are, as a result, they won't show us any more characters period (aside from possible returnees). Sorry, poor wording on my part.

I imagine there's around 10-12 other characters, besides returnees, that we have yet to see.

  11. Wikipedia says there are supposed to be 4 new espers, a new dungeon, and something else where you fight monsters continuously.

New espers: Gilgamesh, Leviathan, Diablos, and Jumbo Cactuar.

New Dungeon: The same after-game dungeon dealie FF1, 2, and 5 had.

Fight Monsters Continuously: Probably the Boss Rush Mode, which was also in FF5, available after you beat the optional dungeon.

  12. Problem!

Unless the message is particularly clear, most of the time backwards lyrics/sound clips merely sound like something you subjectively interpret from the garbled mess.

Just because everyone can hear the same thing you do after you tell them doesn't change the fact that it's still a garbled mess. They're just listening for what you told them was in there.

  13. Midna knew she couldn't stay within the light realm, as surely as Link wouldn't be able to remain within the twilight realm. If the mirror hadn't been destroyed, there would always be the possibility that she (or he) could return to the other, with potentially disasterous results for both worlds. Given the instability of love and the irrationality it can induce, she obviously determined it to be better if the temptation did not exist, even at the cost of the love she had only recently come to develop.

That, and with the mirror destroyed no pesky sages could try shovelling all of Hyrule's shitty people through the gate.
