  1. If you want this posted so soon, why didn't you just give it to Dave?
  2. Quote: here's an example of some actual orchestral dynamics afk
  3. I think the feedback given was unnecessarily positive and not constructive enough in areas such as attention to mixing, instrument placement, production, and note sequencing where this arrangement suffered. The ratio of source to originality is pretty skewed towards the latter, probably in an attempt to compensate for the basic rendition of notes from random themes of the game (medleyitis). Good showing and laudable effort, but there is certainly MORE than enough room for improvement. Hopefully Blizihizzihzizhzizhihziake will receive more helpful criticism from reviewers.
  4. Acoustic guitar is recorded well, flubby but expressive. The mix's aesthetics soon deteriorate with flim-flam orchestral snares and a very loudly mixed electric. Not at all smooth dynamically. Percussion is very poor throughout. Although this is 3:44 minutes long, it seems two minutes less because the song jumps from one idea to another: acoustic - orchestration - electric, with no real cohesion or development. Refine. NO
  5. Same crappy piano sample featured in DJ Crono's last rejection is featured even more prominently here. Intelligent ideas of arrangement are presented, but the execution falters once again (recurring theme). Instruments are mixed dryly, loopy percussion is rough, harmonization as a whole is lacking. Zero production. Cheesy and unrelated resolution of an ending. meh wma ??? NO
  6. Source material isn't much. Shnabulba has embellished upon it with his usual bag of tricks, but the arrangement as a whole feels unfinished and unresolved, as most evident with the final (C?) section when the song starts blowing in the wind somewhere in an undirected tangent and trips and falls its way into a dull ending. Individual compositonal spots such as the synth bass, glissando harmonies, and drumwork shine, but are featured for only a short time in an already short mix. 'Hunter's Community Chest' was a superior developed and cohesive work in the same artistic vein. NO
  7. Sequence better drums or get a drummer. Looping beat under live guitar won't do, especially when it's off-time a lot. NO
  8. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA Listen to Kate Bush - Wow, Kool & the Gang - Summer Madness, and the original spc. These are what this mp3 is made of. What a hilarious dupe, and it made it to the panel too.
  9. When I play the original midi, I hear this horribly off-key lead in the middle of the song. Weird. Anyway, this mix isn't much different in melody or progression aside from a few percussive and support elements (nice arpeggio runs). The sound quality is generally nice, although I can hear many encoding artifacts throughout. Use LAME. There is more structure here than in the original, but it's mostly the same song with better samples. NO
  10. Not too bad of an arrangement, even if it's only the original progression and melody supported by breaks. As soon as the mix begins, I hear mixing problems, and they continue until the end. The samples chosen, though not great, could have been used MUCH more effectively for their intended purpose. The acoustic guitar and buzz synth lead are especially unconvincing - not in a sense of realism, but more in a sense of attraction. I'm unable to suspend my disbelief when I notice every instrument mixed together so cut and dry. Other than the mixing, the arrangement is pretty much a plateau as Jesse and Weed said. Iteration of melody, percussive break, iteration, fidgety piano solo, iteration, end. It's not bad, but there's more that can be done compositionally. You're getting there, just keep practicing. NO
  11. No, I was making a point that there is no need for me to list in specificity where Epic is in this mix and why it's a violation and why I should vote the way I did, because it's obvious and shouldn't have been sent to the panel anyway.
  12. Wrong. This submission is substantially of a contemporary known commercial song. The other mixes you mention are not analogous examples. This one is a violation of our standards through and through; there is nothing else left to be said about my vote (though I can mention it's otherwise a good song and Makke's mixes on the site rule). You're asking ME to justify MY vote when you gave a YES to a would-be NO OVERRIDE. I asked Ari to confirm if he actually verified such a thing, and after hearing from him he absolutely did NOT, he has this to say: First things first. I don't know what epic is and never said as such. This is yet another example in the long endless list of examples of someone (who typically detests people speaking for others) speaking for me. Had I known that this was indeed an 'Epic' song I would certainly vote the binnie route. As usual I've been saying our standards are weak on this issue. Basically you're allowing anyone to minimal-remix a song just as an excuse to do their own sing, aka midnight. I said this would happen again and again, so here it is happening again. Btw, I recalling you calling my vote HORSESHIT, so using my vote to justify your point is not only unfair and deceptive, but rather WTF ROFL. I'm not a judge any longer and never even got the chance to say goodbye. So its been fun. Good luck with the panel guys. I hope you take it in a direction that's practical and solid, and have less troubles as time goes on. And vote zircon yes damnit. WITHDRAWN Deleted his YES vote.
  13. Whether Epic is 50% or 10% or 100% of this mix, it is a commercial song and that makes this submission a clear violation, end of story. Edit: these are not specific ratios of acceptable commercial references, just a line to make a point
  14. * Digital_Fag is playing Faith No More - Epic k * Digital_Fag is playing Makke - Arkanoid SID No More OC ReMix This isn't an Arkanoid rearrangement. Epic isn't "weaved" into this mix, Epic IS this mix. NO
  15. Where are you my Caramella? Happy Halloween.
  16. The original is nothing more than cool effects (and a few chords, which are in this mix). The percussion is definitely different, as the new beat structure is the rearrangement along with the expansion of ambience. Simple yes, but I think it qualifies considering the source material.
  17. The fade-in fade-out transitions are especially bad. Good sound quality for the style, but a poor composition.
  18. Those two ogg links on the site were mixed up for some mirrors, but I fixed them a long time ago. Just redownload them.
  19. This section could use more notes/chords; wasnt feeling it too well; but I like the straightforward aspect as diametrically opposed to the quantameter of the rearranged baroque particle accelerator beam where I felt quite engaged on a sonic basis from the 16ths of the reverberated section could use more notes/chords; wasnt feeling it too well; but I like the straightforward aspect as diametrically opposed to the quantameter of the rearranged baroque particle accelerator beam this section could use more notes/chords; wasnt feeling it too well; but ]I like the
  20. I agree with the dissent. I hear a sloppily played acoustic guitar piece that follows the CT theme closely for the first half and becomes a whole new original song for the second. The improvisation suggests to me a single take, maybe two, with not much effort applied. The buzzing strings are very... distracting. I do not agree that this is an example of a good, standalone acoustic guitar arrangement. The performance is marred by flubs and sloppiness and the arrangement is average to mediocre. Sure, guitars generally sound nice, but this is way sub-par. NO
  21. I want to quickly note that this mix showcases a lot of skill in its application of the completely bizarre, but the filtering and general low-fi EQ is tiring.
  22. Take a look at the included readme in the torrent or see the post where I listed where each zero second pause must go when you burn the CDs so you get transitionless tracks. I don't think Easy CD allows for manual insertion of zero second pauses, so you probably will have to use Nero. As for the OGG discussion, the purpose of offering an OGG alternative was to provide the album at a much smaller filesize for those interested. When I encoded each ogg, I made sure every song was still of good fidelity. Ari brings up a good point about the dithering option in Winamp's plugin: it screws shit up, so make sure it's off. Which specific songs in ogg do any of you guys hear noticeable loss on?
  23. Well played guitar, slick new rhythms. No development, no added material. This can easily go places instead of just being a minute and a half cover. Please do more with it if you want it on this site. NO
