  1. i should point out that i've got almost the entire cpu section done, up through 2.3.1.4. looks like only half of it, but the terminology section took up four pages single-spaced. i'm already up to seven total single-spaced, and i'm barely out of the woods =) if this is as big of a scope as i want it, i'm going to need to make a pdf that can be downloaded from somewhere...this is just too big of a project otherwise.
  2. it's already got two! and djp pimped the thread in the review again. awesome! is that three years running now that this type of thread has made it into a mix's writeup.
  3. it's a horse laxative, so you can buy it from a vet or an agro store or something. i'd not suggest using the stuff at walmart, it's not as high of quality. my father-in-law has some horses, and i'm just going to get a few big containers from him. it's pretty cheap, all told, and puget says that they've only needed to change the oil once - and they didn't change it, they just filtered it.
  4. hey, that's a good point. yeah, it's the aquarium thing. www.hardcorecomputer.com sells the real thing in a customized case that's possibly the only 4k+ custom computer that i could ever recommend. i want to build one with my current parts when i upgrade to core i7, sometime in the middle/end of next year. it'll let me practice case modding, too, because i'm going to dremel the ocremix logo into the side of the glass and everything =)
  5. unless his board doesn't have anything to upgrade to - most older dells and a few other systems were out before pcix came out, leaving him with only relatively expensive, middle-range upgrades.
  6. yeah - don't forget that when a mix with six reviews gets another one, it moves into the '7' bracket. sounds really dumb, but it means that there's about 40 more reviews there than it originally looks like with basic subtraction.
  7. i was saying that if you couldn't, the taxi would cost a lot. lots of people from baltimore = lots of people passing by bwi. edit - oh, i missed the part about the shuttle. that'd be worth the cost, then. go with dca.
  8. yeah. something like this. but i'd probably do the whole thing myself, radiated cooling and all.
  9. didn't this thread get stickied last year? although business is slow in community discussion (i still type gendisc, after all this time), i'm sure it'd help.
  10. i'm going to post a 'want' for parts that i can use in a future oil-immersion pc that i want to build. basically, if it's old, i can probably use it at least a little bit. i'm taking advantage of people pushing their older stuff out the door now that core i7 is out and intel is cutting prices like an emo on depressants =) edit: sobou, you are the man. for your efforts with keeping your post updated, i put big sets at the top of the page.
  11. IAD is hell to get out of, too. don't forget that. you'd have to find someone to get you from DCA to the convention, don't forget. you'd have to foot the bill for a taxi both ways, which'd be more than 25$. there's a bunch of people coming from baltimore.
  12. oh, hey man. long time no see. i actually remembered your last existing post, too, the one about c&c 1 going freeware =)
  13. probably. most people who 'know' me on these boards know i have a certain sense of humor - it'd be weird to have someone else do, for example, 2.4.2.1, or 4.4. i just couldn't see it =) it's not as long as it looks, either. if i had to research, it'd take forever, but i plan on fully taking advantage of sites like hardware secrets and the like. and i know most of this off the top of my head, anyways.
  14. that's a good point...i remember when agp cards were supposed to (with cockroaches) outlive armegeddon. and here we are, with fallout 3 out, using dual pcix16 2.0. and everyone hated pcix when it came out =)
  15. lol, no way i'll have a suitable wip by wednesday. just fyi.
  16. a vga adapter isn't a graphics card, it's just a converter to allow your integrated video that you have on your mobo to come out of the board. likely, your integrated video can't handle vista, so as a result the passthrough (the vga adapter) doesn't work. i'm surprised vista works at all on an fx card. they're like what, five years out of date? six? the mobo burning out thing doesn't apply to this, it applies to two pci express x16 cards (aka, has come out relatively recently) running in sli with a bridge between them. both of those cards are PCI-only, i believe (pci 1.1, right effef?), and can't plug into a pci express slot, even if you had one.
  17. =( there's a dude on these forums who does repairs for really cheap, and rrod doesn't happen again. look up kittykar.
  18. did you ever try using a pico-psu? or did it not have enough power to run your system?
  19. stevo can probably help you out - he's level 99 on this forum and on vgmix. he lives about 45 minutes from there.
  20. has anyone noticed that smoke (the OP guy) hasn't posted since september of 2007? what's up with him? normally i wouldn't say anything, but he's a 14k post guy. you don't just up and walk away from that, you know?
  21. unless you're the guy from overclock.net who used an atom 230 in it, i doubt it really works. but post your specs. beware, computers are one thing that i'll have a say about in my thread, since i sell cunstom boxes. edut - oh snap, sobou, you da man. i'll update that later today.
  22. lol, 9800gtx+...just a little bit of a step up from you =) i did the first wu in about an hour.
  23. i might have to do that. this is getting WAY bigger than i originally thought.
  24. no, the bridge has something to do with it...i don't know what, but you've gotta be careful. sometimes it'll only torch one plug, sometimes the whole deal.
  25. assuming i'm still on the team, i just got the gpu-based encoder working today, and it's kicking ass and taking names. i started it about five minutes ago and i'm 8% of the way through my first work unit on this setup.
