  1. Everyone needs at least 10 midi cables of varying lengths. But MIDI cables are expensive and you don't actually need one so far. Is this delay very bad? You can adjust how much you need in whatever software you're using. MIDI Through is if you have 3 or midi-capable hardware devices and you need to daisy-chain them together. This is a function you don't need if it's just a midi controller for your DAW. Your midi controller can go down to like 1 ms latency, but that depends on your computer and if you have really nice sound hardware. Set it too low and you get ugly noise and underruns and that's not good ;o! So first before you do anything else, adjust the latency in your DAW and see what happens. It should fix your problem. USB is actually like, thousands of times faster than DIN5, and that's why a lot of hardware is offering USB now, so you can send more data, and much faster.
  2. Unfortunately there's nothing I know of that simulates the Genesis FM sounds in an authentic environment. You can sample the Genesis or use FM synths elsewhere, however. There is also ScreamTracker, which can take advantage of your AdLib soundcard for FM sounds [OPL-2]... if you still have one. You can mess around with DOSBox which has AdLib emulation but I don't know if it would be entirely accurate or stable. Funny you should mention the SNES though! An acquaintance of mine, who goes by eKid, is working on a SNES .xm player! And he is almost finished. I will be sure to link it in this forum when he is finished [and like, everywhere else, because this is huge!] What it should be able to do when finished is take a normal, 8 channel .xm file, and have SNES software emulate it somehow, then output the sound using any SNES emulator [of the SNES itself if possible]. What this MEANS is simple: XM > XM Player ROM > SPC file! I'll let you guys know soon. Hopefully.
  3. You might like having some windows on one side, and some other windows on the other side. It's definitely not necessary. I've never tried using dual [or triple] monitors but it doesn't seem like something I'd want, as I'd need to manage 3x the screen area, but everyone works a little differently.
  4. I need at least $400... Think some of you guys could pitch in?
  5. Try combining any average synth with distortion effects, it's fun. I think it is time for an OVERCOAT PROTIP: If you're looking for a sound and already have a few synths and effects, make combinations of stuff you already have! You can play around with something like Synth1 for hours and not get bored. Actually I ended up writing a song by just doing that, more than once. Though I do have good synth recommendations for you. In fact, they're right in the first post: http://www.novakill.com/killerz.htm Distorted, ugly sounds right out of the presets. I've used most of the novakill synths in at least one song and I think they're okay. He seems to have taken most of the older synths offline, but most of the old Novakill synths were very similar anyway.
  6. Creative soundcards have a "What u hear" function. Other brands MIGHT have somethign similar but I rnrdqa0t8teaeya anyway turn it on and start recording it's really nifty
  7. hear hear Everyone's coming out with albums now [Malcos, CTI] and now I need to make another one soon %^( but I have too many ideas.
  8. Aside from a few big VST from Native Instruments and such, there's an alternative free version of any VST you may be able to purchase. Keep that in mind I don't know how to repair keyboards though, sorry. Actually, I need to repair my Ensoniq ESQ-1 which has a broken key! So I would appreciate some help with that too.
  9. I think we should just ban all discussion of money forever. No, you don't have to pay ANYTHING, unless you plan on selling stuff like OneUp Studios or KFSS
  10. Kanthos I mean like, Kompakt has 8 midi outs, and you can use 8 midi tracks per instance of Kompakt to save resources.
  11. Reasons why ProTools is not that great: -For most professionals, ProTools LE is like a "teaser" to get the full thing, so you can go beyond 17 tracks. -Having to switch "low-latency mode" on and off -RTAS. No support for VST or DX -Interface is not that great compared to something similar [i've used both ProTools and Samplitude a little bit in a studio environment. Samplitude does the same stuff for a lot cheaper] -in the context of this thread, very little in the way of midi sequencing. In fact I don't even know if there is any. -RTAS, lol
  12. Trumpet VST? lol I have some average trumpet soundfonts [with doiks and shakes!]. I'll upload it for you. I still have quite a few soundfonts from thesoundsite.net, RIP. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=3722F8E418C154A5 Also this should've gone in the sample request thread but whatever. Your topic has nothing to do with FL or "vst trouble," really, so I would suggest a new thread title EXCEPT for actually there is already a sample request thread.
  13. Freeze doesn't matter much here, when everything's going on at once [apparently!] I thought FL Studio had a freeze function but I never really noticed!
  14. Take advantage of internal MIDI routing and automated patch changes. Though patch changes might not be very good when using QLSO, haha Also, a lot of hollywood composers use a multi-computer setup, where they would for example run GigaStudio with different libraries on one computer, and record on another.... though I have no idea how you actually do that, it's something to look into depending on how serious you are about a good orchestral setup.
  15. Um, I imagine this section is just for site-related announcements. Unless your album is like some monumentously awesome VG rap collection.
  16. I heard that middle-aged women dating 20-something guys is actually not that rare. I saw this on Oprah so it must be true. I AM THE OPPOSITE THOUGH IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN HEH HEH
  17. キタ━━━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━━━!!!!! You know, some people have been vocal about how it's lame to have site news in the remix writeups... but I don't see why. Maybe I'm just used to it being that way. I think it's neat because you can associate a past event with a remix (´∀`).
  18. lol Well it's still usable as a MIDI controller at least. It's probably be cheaper for you just to get a good software sequencer and stock up on the buttload of free softsynths and samples out there. Especially if you're aiming to be as good as to get hosted on OCR.
