Why does this thread only have 8 replies anyway? This is one of the best Metroid mixes on the site by far, and it's quite old to boot.
-
just wanted them to automatically jump to 2 or 3 or 4
This took me a while to figure out but I finally got it. When using the Event Editor, mouse over the editing field. FL'll give you a percentile or number [sometimes even a name or On/Off] in the line on the main toolbar at the top of the screen, so you get a more accurate value instead of an estimate.

3. Perhaps you can retain the animation but try a different method? Since this is a children's book, how about just movable cutouts? Something akin to Space Ghost Coast To Coast without any animation tweens?
It would be an easy method, and of COURSE it would just look absolutely adorable.

Though you get sound in other programs, correct?
-
Also at myka316: That's a .wav sample. However, this .wav sample thankfully has a [good] loop point. When you encounter something with a loop point [should be 2 red bars in the waveform], in the channel properties go to "use loop points."

Search for "heart"

There should be a directory just for soundfonts in the /data/patches/ folder, just put your soundfonts in there [.sf2 format only] and they'll show up in the sample browser on the left of FL Studio.

Search the thread for "event editor" and "automation"
Sometimes it's as simple as right clicking, if it's a FL plugin or program function [like volume or tempo] but ANYTHING can be automated.
The trickiness comes from 3rd party vst/dx plugins! You need to check out the sample browser to the left. You'll see a "current project" folder. If you have synths open go to "Generators" and there should be yet another section for each synth. In this case it would be "Fruity Wrapper (Synth1 VSTi/DXi)"
Luckily, all the automatable functions are labeled, however a lot of synths have functions that AREN'T, so you'll have to guess! This sucks but it's the only way, UNLESS you hit "record" and twiddle with the knobs LIVE and UNCUT which can be a little messy o_O

This song made me lol.

Channels>Add>more; quick refresh. New instruments are in red. Click the box next to them to add them to the menu

what is a not vst? a dx/dxi/au?
-
That's one way of going about it. You may find it easier to simply use the "LCD" display in the channel properties at the top right labeled "-fx-" and selecting an FX channel with that. That's how I go about it. Nasenmann's method is probably just as good, but I'm not used to it.

I can usually understand thick English, but her phone apparently cannot.

Still it's like "the more tracks you have on OCR, the more your knowledge is accepted at the boards - else you're nothing". It's what you just wrote.
Not at all. Language barriers yay

So kaijin basically you think zircon doesn't deserve to give out musical do's and don'ts?
If you read his posts and disagree with them, why haven't you spoken up about this before instead of discussing this in the particular thread?
edit: zircon beat me to it D:

Next point, Reverb is entirely subjective to the song.Ultimately' date=' it's up to you to decide what sounds should have reverb, and in what amount. It also depends on whether or not the recordings you are dealing with had any reverb recorded (or if they were recorded "dry" - eg. no natural ambiance), or if you are dealing with recorded sounds atall. Before I give some more etcetc[/quote']
If you're going to criticize a tutorial, kaijin, please read it first.

Yo Larry, CompoST 51 happened this week, you usually showcase a few of the good ones on your show, so I thought you might be interested There are a few excellent entries also.
In other news, rememeber that important topic I needed to call in on? It's gotten even more important. I have a message for the entire scene that I think they need to hear. I hate being serious but I think this is necessary.
-
Compy: Withholding knowledge is a bit selfish, no? There's nothing wrong with writing a tutorial, I think your "pseudo audio engineers" thought is really reaching.
Yeesh! Everyone's been so pessimistic lately.
Thank God zircon FINALLY wrote some new tutorials, and no doubt they're going to be able to help a lot of people.

'FL Syndrome' is a term coined for n00bs that have no idea what they're doing. You'll hear these kinds of songs all over VGMix and also some early OCR tunes.
They're set apart by the use of default samples and 3xOSC , and more currently FL Slayer.
-
That's Skaven though... You can't expect any of us to be that good
I've gotten some OK sounds out of Slayer 2, myself. It's also very different from Slayer 1.5 [FL Slayer], it has a few more doodads and a generally different sound.
But yeah, leave it to Skaven to turn shit into gold.
-
There's not much I can tell you about FL Slayer other than it'll sound like crap no matter what if you ever want to make it sound like a guitar.
?
There are no tutorials because everyone hates it.
-
Anyone still interested in this? I'd like to see this project gain a little more popularity.
I haven't been working on Whiz Kid as much though... I think I may just restart it because I don't like the funk style it turned into

Are there alternatives?

Download the sfz .dll into whatever VST directory you set for FL Studio. Then go to Channels > add > more
Refresh the list and sfz should show somewhere in red. Click the box next to it to add it to the list [it'll show up on the "add" dropdown menu now], then add sfz as a channel. You can load soundfonts this way.
It doesn't work quite as well as the FL Soundfont Player, but it gets the job done.

Larry next time you're on #ocremix I give you bumper ok?

Are you considering my moving cutouts idea? WE NEED TO TALK so I can explain it in greater detail
