  1. Here is my WIP for the Japanese opening of Megaman X4. Originally sung by Yukie Nakama (she of Ring 0: Birthday fame :D ) http://www.box.net/shared/t9jsf1h2ef WIP 2: http://www.box.net/shared/dy9tzrx7x7 And the source track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tht3TbGKunc This is a sort of Euro-disco-housey track. As I don't have access to my library of sounds and samples at the moment (they're all on my PC... I'm using just Reason installed on my roomie's Macbook), it sounds a bit basic at the moment. The percussion is a little weak, and most of it is placeholder at the moment. But you'll get the feel I'm going for. Expect more arrangement, better sounds and more of everything soon!!! It sounds a little boring without the lyrics and layers in at the moment, but this will change. I'm rewritten the lyrics in English. They'll follow the same melody, but bear no correlation to the original lyrics meanings. I'll record the vox when my PC is back up and running again, and when i get my new laptop!!! :D Here's the lyrics I've written so far. I've got the first verse down, the chorus, and part of the second verse. They mostly go along with the melody of the original vox... sing along if you know the track Oh, and they're subject to change. Enjoy! Verse 1 How is it even possible to take that step outside? When all you hear is impossible. How do you take it in your stride? Down we go... Falling deeper and deeper we go into the rabbit hole. Down we go... All this time we've been thinking that it's better the devil we know. Tell me how is it so? (Tell me how is it so?) When everything I've been taught is wrong. Well maybe that's why it took so long to come around and to find my place. And all that stands in my way is for me to know it was my mistake to make. Chorus And now I feel you all around. I can't believe I didn't see you were there all along, telling me to turn around. It's hard to believe that this flame was inside of me. Think of everything we'll leave behind in this world to find our peace of mind. We will go on from this moment in time. Verse 2 For all the people who let you down; For all that took away will now fall by the wayside, and be begging for you to stay. They don't see; They don't know what's inside of you but we know now something has changed. They can't see everything that's been done to you, so they'll stay inside this page; This page of history. For eternity. When everything that they know is wrong. Well maybe that's why it takes so long to come around and to find their space. And all that stands in their way is for them to realize it's their mistake to make. Chorus So now I feel you all around. I can't believe I didn't see you were there all along, telling me to turn around. It's hard to believe that this flame was inside of me. Think of everything we'll leave behind in this world to find our peace of mind. We will go on from this moment in time.
  2. If so, I place dibs on the Sonic CD boss theme remix :D
  3. Fuck yes. I'll take Paternal Horn!!! Been waiting for a Night's remix project for ages. I'd also love to do an alternate version of Dreams Dreams... ironically been a dream of mine for a LONG time
  4. still having PC woes... which should be alleviated in a few weeks. Planning on getting a new laptop (hopefully an Alienware M17 ), and transferring all my stuff from my current PC to my new one. Won't be much longer, I promise A full release is gonna have to wait though...
  5. The lyrics have meaning haha... but I can't be fucked explaining them now. Catch me in a better mood, and I may haha But really, I like them open ended. I like lyrics like this myself. There's definitely a place for lyrics that tell a complete story, however, there's something to be said for a sort of vagueness. All you really know is that these people have made decisions that have consequences. Whether it's by their own hand, or because of an outside party, it doesn't really matter, because they have to live with it regardless. And this is a universal story... something people have experienced since as far back as, well, a long time ago. It could be a love story... it could be anything. I don't think there is a wrong way to interpret them. They have a definite meaning to me, and if you identify with the lyrics, then I'm sure they have a meaning to you too Yeah, I just Auto-Tuned the lyrics... I've only just given up smoking (again), so it's good to have there. Say what you want about it, but it makes my life a hell of a lot easier. Haven't really fiddled around with Manual tuning yet... would love to maybe on a future track. Till then, this will do... I'm quite happy with the outcome. It's FAR from perfect, but it's leaps and bounds above anything I've done before. I feel like I've only just discovered my voice, so I hope I can only get better from here. Till then, this will do Still got lots to learn on the vocal front... I really want to invest in some sort of lessons or something this year. Anyways, I've still got some spit and polish to add to this. When my PC is fixed, then I'll get stuck straight into it, because I know exactly what I want to do to it. And the version I have now is much, much better sounding than WIP 5... sucks I can't upload it... I've only got access to it on my Ipod for now...
  6. Yeah, haven't updated in a while... Sorry about the delay. My power supply on my PC is gone, so I'm waiting till I've got some money to upgrade my PC. Shouldn't bee to much longer... got some sweet updates to upload! I haven't abandoned this, just waiting to fix my PC.
  7. Meh, I'm extremely happy with my DSi... do not regret the purchase whatsoever. The screens are gorgeous, the sound is better (not HAVING to where headphones for games like Ouendan is a blessing), and the d-pad and buttons have improved exponentially over the other DS models. I don't regret my purchase at all. The DSi is awesome.
  8. Any album from Eiffel 65 after Europop. Awesome euro stuff... their 3rd album has shades of Gigi d'Agostino. When they turned into Bloom 06, they got even more awesome. Eiffel 65 - Brightly Shines http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqo2GfkYWUc Bloom 06 - Welcome to the Zoo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6w5T0ISWuA I agree with Chumbawamba. The song they had on the Stigmata soundtrack was awesomeness.
  9. I know EXACTLY what you mean. This is my biggest gripe with it at the moment too! I intend to remedy this however with some more instrumntation, which just isn't there at the moment. I've been listening to a lot of music lately where the percussion is understated, yet the instrumentation really pulls trhough... I'm going to go for this approach. Sounds silly, but yeah, I'm playing around with some stuff as we speak, so expect a big improvement in this area soon! Thanks for the feedback guys!
  10. So here's the latest update! WIP 5!!! http://www.box.net/shared/3gojobov2s The biggest differences you'll hear is the new percussion. I changed the kick and few other bits and pieces. Actually, this sounds a fair bit different to the last WIP. Still needs a hell of a lot of polish. Many effects still missing, and some of the instrumentation is still not there. However, this sounds a lot cleaner than any of the previous WIP's. The vocals are clearer, more harmonies in the chorus etc... The last chorus is in there now too!!! Also added some vox to the outro. They aren't mixed in properly yet, but they're there! Transitions still need way more work.... now more than ever due to the fact I've completely overhauled everything. Expect these (intro, transitions, outro) to be filled out soon enough! The chorus needs work too. There's some placeholder effects in there, so they'll be worked out. Newly added bass line to the chorus too!!! So structurally, everything is now in place and complete. Just loads of spit and polish to do. Enjoy!
  11. http://www.box.net/shared/m736xhyoce The basics are there... still needs more fx, instrumentation and attention paid to the transitions, but yeah. So what mixes do you think are standouts so far? For me, it would be No. :- 34 (by tranceblackman); 41 (by bremen4000); 82 (by James Merrifield); & 147 (by Mich1s)... 147 in particular being rather awesome, what with it's awesome early 90's funk sound.
  12. The intro synth is pretty dire, it must be said, but that initial impression was lifted when the mix started a proper! I love the drum track very awesome. The leads and other parts of the mix are quite good too, though perhaps a little indistinct and lost in the mix, but there's definitely potential here. Altogether, the mixing is a little muddy, and it seems light on bass. The change at the end is also very, very cool. Haven't heard the original, since I'm not too much of an RPG gamer, but this sounds great. A fair amount of work to do on this, mainly balance and mixing issues, but keep at it... this is quite good so far
  13. http://www.box.net/shared/m736xhyoce This is mine so far... no backing vocals yet, but the leads are in there. Oh, and mind the dodgy bell pads so far... If anyone could perhaps point me in the direction of some awesome 80's bell sounds, It would be a great help... I'm slightly left wanting when it comes to bells.
  14. You have no idea how close that sounds to my actual mix...
  15. Okies, so this may be old new (well it kinda is), but I've only just come across this while google-ing Imogen Heap... again. Amazing artist she is. http://www.twestival.fm/?p=195 So long story short, Imogen has uploaded some RAW vocals for a remix competition. The song in question was never released or used. However, the catch is that the vox will only be up till March 12. So get downloading!!! The fact of the matter is you can get some FREE vocals, Imogen no less, to tweak and do with what you will. Awesome. The vocals can be obtained at the link above. Just thought I'd share this with all of you. I was stoked to stumble across this, and I thought I'd share the wealth. I'll definitely be trying my hand at this, competition or no. Would be interested in seeing what everyone else can do with this too... the vocals are brilliant and catchy. And hell, IT'S IMOGEN HEAP!!! Flip side and all that
  16. There will be one soon!!! Got it sounding a little more polished, and got some stuff planned for the end too.. last chorus is recorded and ready to go! Will post as soon as I got it to where I want it
  17. 'Ooooooh it's so good, it's so good, it's so good, it's sooooo goooooooood...' Holy hell, that's an utter ode to Mr Moroder if I've ever heard one!!! Love it. Ahem, well... A complete and utter YES to Jazz Jackrabbit. I want Alexander Brandon to have my babies. You know, if I had a uterus and stuff. The music in those games are god-like. Also a big fat yes to Lords of Thunder. Man... great game to boot, but that soundtrack is amazing. Think Dracula Battle-like stuff, and you're almost there. OK... here's my two-cents: *Cyber Speedway/Gran Chaser for the Saturn. But not the horrid hillbilly shit from the US release, oh no. The amazing Synth tunes by one of my favourites, Koji Hayama, that appear in the Euro/JAP versions, win hands down. Some awesome melodies to be sure. I'll make sure to link you peoples to these as soon as I'm able to, as Youtube has next to nothing on this. *Skeleton Warriors of the SAT/PSX also had a brilliant score by none other than Mr. Tommy Tallarico. For what was a fun, if very average title, the music really lifts the game. Makes it almost playable. Ah hell... I like the game anyways. *Exhumed/Powerslave on the Saturn had one of the greatest scores I think I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing- game or not. The Egyptian feel throughout is utterly captivating... some stunning melodies to be found here. And the percussion is incredibly authentic... as are the vocal elements. Again, it's just ANOTHER Tommy Tallarico classic that has been left out in the cold. The game also appeared on the PSX and PC, but I haven't played either of those versions, so I can't say if the soundtrack is the same, though I can't see why it wouldn't be. Great game too, the Saturn version anyways. Needs way more love... I've never met anyone who can even recall this soundtrack. The credits theme 'Isis Dreams': Fast forward to 2:14... a little hard to hear, but my favourite track from the game: *Any of the Toshinden games. Average games, but awesome scores. Not typical of the almost Eurobeat stylings of most of the score from BAT: Remix on the Saturn, this exclusive track was nonetheless quite a coup back in the day for Saturn owners like me. Your link to utter awesomeness awaits... BEHOLD THE GREATNESS... That about does me for now... I'll sift through my collection at home when I get a chance to offer up more recommendations.
  18. Here's something I've been working on the last couple of days. It's a mash up of the One Must Fall 2097 Menu music, and the Medivo Stage from Jazz Jackrabbit. So yeah, I've been on a MOD kick lately. WIP Here: http://www.box.net/shared/3q1d8h9gnl Sources here: JJ + OMF 2097 tracks: http://rapidshare.com/files/204679160/OMF___Jazz_source_tunes.rar Okies, so at the moment, it's a little generic techno with an 80's vibe. Expect it to become less generic-techno and more 80's dance with the healing power of COWBELL!!! Planning to add vocoded vocals in somewhere... though I haven't written any lyrics or anything yet. The 80's influences are partly in place... complete with some warm synth's and a sweet FM Bass line :D This is just a rough sketch, and as I said, expect it to change a fair bit. Haven't implemented all of the Medivo source in yet, just the main bits. The ending is also placeholder... expect a longer track, and without that ending. Hope you like what I've done so far... it's just a fun mix.. no pretensions to greatness or anything, just something fun to listen to. Enjoy!!! -Robbie.
  19. Yeah, this is sounding great. It's got a real warmth that I like. The strings that play the main source melody need a bit of work... mainly just stuff to 'humanise' the sound... the rest sounds great. Keep working on it... looking forward to the rest!!!
  20. HOLY HELL I've always LOVED that track. Used to make me cry when I was a young'in!!! Will download this WIP when I get home to see what it's like... great choice of source too!
  21. Okies, here's WIP 4!!! http://www.box.net/shared/dlbz52kfvh A few changes. Some more Percussion added... found some Beat Box samples, So I've fleshed out the intro and the little bridge segments a bit. I've added some additional trancy pads to the chorus too. It all sounds a lot clearer now. Also, added a build up after the second verse to lead into a key change for the last chorus. It's still missing some effects to make it really soar, but it'll get there. There will be a repeat of the chorus, followed by a little vocal adlib bit to lead it out. No outro yet. Also, I haven't recorded the vocals for the key change yet, so it's just instrumental at the moment. But I'll get around to recording them in the next couple of days, so watch this space. Still missing a few things... my planned guitars and new bass line are not in there yet, so those will be coming in later updates. I've spaced out the mix ready for these additions, so it still sounds a bit starkers. Enjoy!!!
