Forty-second Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Does anyone know/use any freeware programs that allow for tabletop RPG gaming to happen in groups online? There are lots of people I'd like to play with that live all over the world. Quote
DarkeSword Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Doesn't that somewhat defeat the purpose? Not really; I play a lot of D&D this way (usually just in an AIM chatroom). Still very fun. Quote
H. Guderian Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Hmm, the one program I was introduced to was like, killed recently. Try "Open RPG", its got your dice, a map to draw on and use digital minatures on, and a bunch of useful and helpful features. It is a download, and I do keep my eye out for others. Though no, doing it online doesn't defeat the purpose. For one thing, you have a lot more freedom to assume any role/character due to the internet's ability of anon. Plus you have a wider access to talented RP-ers willing to paly a whole variety of game systems besides just the big ones. Quote
Sinewav Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 The best I know of are some dice rolling programs which you can easily find with a google search. I haven't tried it yet, but I imagine something like a paint chat would be useful. I like to play a lot of old and new World of Darkness games, and a lot of the people I'd like to play with are all over the place. More tools for this sort of thing would be useful. Quote
kitty Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I played Citadels (Machiavelli in Dutch) over mIRC with some friends. Quite the buggy little thing though. Quote
Wintermute Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I believe the standard is called FantasyGrounds. Then there's D&DInsider, whenever they finally launch the goddamn thing. But that'll be subscription fee. Quote
qtipk Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Mayhaps you're looking for something like maptool [http://rptools.net] and skype? Quote
DarkeSword Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Mayhaps you're looking for something like maptool [http://rptools.net] and skype? At first glance, this post looks sooo much like a bot. Good find though. Quote
