The Pezman
So I just downloaded the Beta today... it is hot. A number of changes to the UI, but those pale in comparison to implementations of CSS3 and HTML5. CSS3 has the interesting property of allowing objects to move across the screen, uprooting Flash as the pretty much undisputed web technology for doing so. If you download the beta yourself, you can see it in action here. HTML5 also offers native support for multimedia (video, audio) while finally deprecating old useless tags (<b>, <i>, <frame>, etc.). I can't wait to delve into crafting some new pages with some of this stuff. Perhaps some of the crazy new CSS stylings will eventually make their way into OCR... any ideas, Dave? anosou
I'm a FF mac user but it's always late on updates so Safari 4 might be cool.. Can you import firefox settings? Too bad there are no plugins.. I love my add-to-netvibes button

You have to download this one manually, since it's a beta. Can you import firefox settings? I think so. Bookmarks definitely, not sure about anything else. Too bad there are no plugins Well... Alexis
Oh my gosh this is so fucking cool. LOOK AT THIS! The top pages thing is my new favorite feature. And also the bookmark/history coverflow thing is pretty cool.
Avolii
Just installed it. Oddly, it imported the few IE bookmarks, but not the FF ones. There's a bite in the ass. Also, looking over the plugins, seriously.... there's ones you have to pay for? No thanks. I also have my Start bar to auto hide, which Safari likes to not show by being on top all the time in fullscreen. Other then that, I do enjoy it. Will it replace FF? Not yet for me. zircon
Oh my gosh this is so fucking cool.LOOK AT THIS! The top pages thing is my new favorite feature. Google Chrome has had that feature since it first came out.
The Pezman
Google Chrome has had that feature since it first came out. From what I understand the algorithm for throwing up pages is slightly different. IIRC, Chrome will browse your recent history, which Safari 4 does as well, but the latter also takes page visit frequency into account. Drack
Opera has this feature too (and had it LONG before these browsers copied it), but unlike Safari, it lets you SET which pages appear, instead of automatically adding any site you visit a lot. Use Safari! Show your visiting friends your favorite porn sites every time you open a new tab, without even telling Safari you want to! "Every time you open a new tab, you'll see a visual sampling of your most visited sites, most used search engines, and recently bookmarked pages and closed tabs." So, nothing new on that level, though it's interesting Opera had this even before Chrome did.

The Pezman
I'm surprised people are talking so much about the UI, when the real deal is here: A number of changes to the UI, but those pale in comparison to implementations of CSS3 and HTML5. mcneely11
I wish Chrome would come out for osx already..... I find it way faster and much less bloated than ffox or safari
SoulinEther
I yet await the implementation of CSS3/HTML 5 in alternative, non-Apple branded browsers. The only potential benefit this could bring is to force other browsers to implement and hey wait a minute isn't this based off of Webkit? That means that it sh/could be in KHTML... hmm. And wouldn't that mean Chrome, as well? Still. Not gonna code for one browser. edit: i've noticed Chrome has had _some_ CSS3 features, like object resizing... hum. If that's so, this news is no longer even slightly amusing

SoulinEther
What I mean is.. if they've implemented the support of CSS3 into Webkit, which is LGPL'd, it's likely to be seen in other browsers that are based off webkit - Chrome and Konqueror, namely. but i'm sadly too lazy to google to find out more info edit: wait, webkit was forked off KHTML, so it's unlikely konqueror will see css3 unless the developers decide to switch to webkit or somethin. (edit: or, duh, try to merge. uhm,. yeah, i should stop discussing this. lol)
StarZander
I still prefer my Opera 10 alpha (super fastness!), but Safari is really climbing my favorites list with this update. I'm looking forward to testing CSS3 stuff. I won't be using it in my developing though, since cross-browser compliance is still a virtue of mine. But maybe I'll add some user agent checks, and give safari 4-users some easter eggs... EDIT: Also nice to see Safari 4 as the second browser I've ever seen pass the Acid3 test with a 100% score (Opera 10 does this).
The Pezman
I won't be using it in my developing though, since cross-browser compliance is still a virtue of mine. Oh, of course. That's why this is still a beta. None of the stuff Apple's implemented is guaranteed to see the light of day, though personally I think it has a very good shot. However, it's not there yet and that's why it's still a beta.
Moguta
I yet await the implementation of CSS3/HTML 5 in alternative, non-Apple branded browsers. You may've already known, but Firefox 3.1 is going to include support for much of these standards. Just gotta wait for it to get past the beta stage...
