OceansAndrew
Just Innistrad; it released this weekend, so there is a pretty level playing field as far as information. "]innistrad
Archangel
I probably won't be able to attend since I'm in Europe and I can't really stay up until 2 AM. Sorry everyone! I hope you have fun!
Gario
Huh, that has some funny little cards in it. Then again, I haven't seen a card post M7, so... yeah, I suppose there will be some new things that I don't know about.
Hemophiliac
Transform is the new mechanic? Are they two sided cards that get flipped when requirements are met? Also, can certain cards transform back and forth?? A few of them seem like they have transform on both sides of their card.
Archangel
Yup, transform can work both ways sometimes. Actually, it usually does, only a few exceptions are one-sided transformations.
Hemophiliac
After taking a look through the cardset for the current set, I can say it's fairly vanilla with nothing super exciting...it should be easy for older players to grasp new cards and set concepts. How do these double sided cards work in a deck though?? You know what you're going to draw before you get it...this I don't understand why they would. Obviously opaque sleeves prevents this, but was it part of the design concept to know when it's coming?

You can't play them without sleeves, and if you don't have sleeves you have to use a proxy. Yeah I think it's very gimmicky, and really defeats the point of even making a double-sided card, but whadayagonnado.
Archangel
Wizards printed these checklist cards you can put into your deck to represent double-sided cards. http://media.wizards.com/images/magic/tcg/products/isd/g4cc1x3ges_en.jpg Once they come in to play (or 'enter the battlefield' in today's lingo), you play with the actual double-sided cards. Hemophiliac
I gotcha, I do like that they at least made something like that for a proxy...overall feels really bleh to me though...btw i'm very much looking forward to playing some games
suzumebachi
can we focus on standard and legacy and forget modern and extended and vintage even exist? using just innistrad for the first round i suppose is fine, since most of the time is probably gonna be spent figuring out cockatiel and learning these silly new mechanics (two sided cards? what on earth). also i foresee a problem with 8pm thursday evenings, since that's compo time. Hemophiliac
they should've just made them like the flip legends from the kamigawa block, most of them are vanilla enough to work.
shadow24
This sounds like fun but count me out for about two weeks cuz i'll be in Korea
shadow24
I'd love to play something like retro standard occasionally. It'd be cool to say ok everyone can use the Tempest block, Urza's block and the core set that was valid then for this week Everyone could vote on which retro blocks to use ahead of time Just something to spice it up
OceansAndrew
For the foreseeable future we'll be focusing on block and standard, as well as draft. Modern/Legacy can be for those who are interested. The goal of this is to have a semi-simple (at least as simple as magic can get) playing field for people to have fun in. I'm sure plenty of people will be interested in the deep end, andthey can meet up ad play too, via the power of networking

I run a very fun Genesis Dragon Deck in modern format for multiplayer.
Slickzero
I'm definitely interested in this, although I'll be studying for my boards up till the first one. But for all future events, I'm down. Also, +1 vote for more Standard, less Block
Diodes
I would be pretty late to this because I work until 8:30 on Thursdays. Is there still a point to me showing up, like can I just play against people whenever I show up, or should I not even bother? ;
Gario
Well, 8:30 East Coast is like 4:30 for me. I'd be game - this Thursday, then? I wanna try this program and see if it's any good.
OceansAndrew
show uop whenever! we will have plenty of people to play against!
Unstable Hamster
Cool, I finally got this going, so I should be down with it. I'll try and make the deck that I use to use. Edit: Oh hey, not being too into the tournament Magic stuff, so I'll have to look up these game types, or can someone just give me a quick overview of them? Also, is there going to be something like ventrillo or Skype to talk to each other? It might be easier to figure out what I'm doing right or wrong if we got something like a chat going on. Kiyobi
I'd like to eventually dive back into older sets. My Fungus Sliver deck wants to play~ But I'm down for whatever, I've been so out of whack with meta since Lorwyn, so <.<
Hemophiliac
Frankly this meta is pretty simple, it's easy to get grasp of everything...i've got a good handle of it in a few games. Also more people need to be idling on irc in #vgmmtg...more games!
OceansAndrew
I played in an awesome 6 player FFA last night with some wonderful gents from the shizz. Seems like we have a really supportive group of people helping each other to learn the program, and we usually have a decent amount of people in the #vgmmtg channel at night, if any of you want to get some random games in. OceansAndrew
Double post, but it's pretty good info, played a few games with Donut last night, and I was reminded that I should post some good deck lists for block to use as a starting point. Note that these are not even close to tuned, and that i'm sure there are better card choices for some, but they are meant for a foundation.
