Wiesty Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Parts are starting to come in folks! This is sounding stellar! Quote
dannthr Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 If no one's offered, I can help you guys mix this crazy shit. I might be interested in putting together an arrangement as well--what kind of time-line are you looking at for arrangements? Quote
Wiesty Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Hey man, we will take arrangements whenever we can get them. Audiofidelity already said he would do the production end of it, but we could definitley use a second set of ears! Quote
Wiesty Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 We are also still in need of more trombone players!!! Quote
PixelPanic Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 We are also still in need of more trombone players!!! I know I know I know but I just don't have a good mic :c I'd send in an audition if I could. Quote
PixelPanic Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I've got a Shure SM57 with an M-Audio Pre MKII, and it's sounded absolutely horrible. It picks up too much room noise and blasts mids through the roof, and I've tried EQing the tracks I record but it never works. Does the Fast Track really make that big a difference? Quote

dannthr Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I've got a Shure SM57 with an M-Audio Pre MKII, and it's sounded absolutely horrible. It picks up too much room noise and blasts mids through the roof, and I've tried EQing the tracks I record but it never works. Does the Fast Track really make that big a difference? No--at that price range, no. The 57 is a dynamic mic, that means you can put it in some pretty loud places--like close to the trombone bell. Try placing it near the bell, experiment with the axis placement as well--try it slightly off axis at first. Try recording in a LARGER space--your bedroom or whatever will sound terrible. If you go to school, see if they will let you use the band room or auditorium or recital hall or whatever there is at your school. If you're not in school, first try the largest space in your home, then try to find other spaces. Quote
Fratto Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Alrighty. Got my own ribbon so that I don't have to borrow! Now all I need is a lead trumpet part to play along with. Quote
Wiesty Posted July 2, 2013 Author Posted July 2, 2013 Good! What did you pick up? Ribbons are good for the clarity and accuracy, but you might have a bit of trouble with room noise/overblowing the mic. Quote
dannthr Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Ribbons require a great deal of gain but unless you have one of the few exceptions, you can destroy them very easily--they're one of the most delicate microphones--in fact, simply running phantom power through your ribbon can destroy it. So be extremely careful--also, you need a pre that has some meat on its bones or you won't be able to hear anything. A ribbon can sound amazing on brass though I'm not a fan of using a ribbon without an LDC paired with it as ribbons tend not to have a lot of detail to their sound (they tend not to pick up high frequencies very well). Be careful of placement, you don't want to stick that thing in your bell. Quote
Fratto Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Cheapo r144. I wasn't about to borrow something insanely expensive. For being as cheap as it is, it sounded pretty good, so I got one of my own. It's what I used to record the previously posted Tom Waits song. There were some room noise issues, but not too bad. Six tracks without too many problems. Quote
Wiesty Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 Has anyone heard from C7 (Adam)? He appears to be MIA Quote
Fratto Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Maybe he got busy with that Blight thing he was working on? Either way, he hasn't logged here in over a month. Quote
SuperiorX Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Has anyone heard from C7 (Adam)? He appears to be MIA Adam is indeed very busy in real life and with his games he's working on. I dont know if he's MIA exactly, but I do know he hasn't had as much time for musical projects recently. Weisty you and I need to talk sometime more about that Mega Man arrangement I sent you a long time ago. Maybe not right away cause I'm pretty busy at the moment. But sometime! Quote
Wiesty Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 Adam has contacted me. We'll have our first trumpet parts in a few days. Get your trombone skillz ready fratto! Quote
