Comments: I'm a huge fan of the music of Mega Man 2, and after beating it again during a tough time in my life, I was inspired to make a tech version. I left it incomplete back in 2010 and returned recently to completing it. I intended the sound to be loud, industrial and metallic to really get to the core of what Metal Man's factory-like world would be. As a huge fan of the series, I tried to do it as much justice as I could.

Interesting idea here to make this an industrial-sounding mix, I actually like the metallic clanking and sfx.  The arrangement is pretty straightforward in terms of source.  You establish a good groove right away.  I'm not a huge fan of wide saw leads but I like the other instrumentation you've added around it.  The lead starting at 1:25 is much too quiet in the mix and I can barely hear it, maybe because it's playing in such a low octave there.  If you want to keep that lead low, I'd recommend using another timbre that cuts through better.

 

My issue with this track is that unfortunately it gets repetitive.  After the writing and groove are established, it is the same writing and sounds over and over for five minutes.  To warrant five minutes of track, you need to add more variation either in writing or in sounds.  At 3:04 you changed up the drum groove and that's a step in the right direction.  Then there's a drumless section, but again the same sounds and writing.  I recommend changing the lead at some point to something different and doing some wild soloing or something, to add more variation.

I don't have anything to add on the production criticisms, but I agreed with Chimpa on everything she touched on re: production and arrangement.

 

I loved the industrial SFX, though the saw & electrosynth leads were very vanilla/cookie-cutter and definitely dragged on as the piece continued. That said, it was coming across like a conservatively arranged but solidly personalized cover for the first 1:24.

 

Things kept going, but I felt like at 2:07, we hit stagnation as far as the energy level of the writing, the arrangement/interpretation of the source melody, and the textural/instrumental variations. The track ultimately sounded very repetitive: same leads, same textures, same writing, same basic energy level for the 5+ minutes.

 

Like Chimpa was getting at, Bryan, this needs more development and dynamic contrast.

ooof...this started off great with some really interesting metal sounds and stuff, but as the piece progressed it just got really messy.

 

You have a lot of parts sitting the same registers with very similar sounds that are fighting for attention. Its kind of like when you download an old MIDI from vgmusic.com and whoever wrote it forgot to set the instruments, so everything is set to piano. There's no definition between the parts. Everything is just sort of happening at the same time without any concern for the other parts. The resulting mix just sounds super messy.

 

You need a lot more variety in your soundscape. This sounds like mush.
