Chimpazilla said they thought it had TSO-vibes, which I totally get, but I hear a lot of late 80s/early 90s Danny Elfman on my end. Besides being a behemoth of collaboration, this is just a great remix! Love how it grows and becomes a real monster of a track. Also, starting it with Aerith's theme getting distorted into OWA is just mean : ) Off topic, I find it very interesting that this site isn't growing in OWA remixes. It took 4 years for Trenthian's strange "Sector 7 Hath Wrought the Angel" to arrive on the scene and 3 years after that for the slightly (only slightly!) more traditional "Black Wing Metamorphosis" to hit OCR, and that was with an album drop. (Side note, I also hear Elfman influences in "Black Wing Metamorphosis" so maybe there's something inherent to the original?) Not that I'm complaining about OWA representation, I just find it interesting that one of the most recognizable video game tracks ever has 5 standalone remixes, 7 if you include the the ones with other sources in them. I'm not the most musically-technical person around, so I assume that the original is a lot more intimidating to tackle than something like Terra or Aquatic Ambience? Considering how many contributors are on this one remix and "Black Wing Metamorphosis", I'm not really surprised that it only gets remixed every 3 years or so. What a beast!

I assume you mean the subtle ringing of the piano. But I think that's just part of the piano sound, or rather the effects (reverb, delay, or chorus) used for this piano preset (if possible, try playing this piano VSTi without effects, then add individual effects one by one until you find the one that bothers you). I've checked your audio sample with my studio monitor speakers (Yamaha MSP 3) and with my studio headphones (Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro), and I could barely hear the ringing in the sample. I also loaded the audio sample into my DAW and checked for possible clipping artifacts. But even there, at least as far as the output is concerned, no distortion due to overdrive was detectable. However, you might want to check the input value again or try reducing the input volume. Otherwise, I wouldn't let laptop speakers or smartphone speakers deter me in this regard. Integrated laptops in particular tend to massively overemphasize the high frequencies in the sound, which, in combination with reverb and delay effects, can produce a really unpleasant, jingling sound. I think I experienced something similar back then when I listened to the piano intro of my Crisis Core remix on my mother's laptop speakers. It might be a completely different type of piano - but maybe just compare it to your piano sound on your laptop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjndFXyi2us ... Based on my hearing and the audio playback devices I use, your piano sounds really good. ))

dizzydizz started following Strange resonances/"buzziness" in high range of digital keyboard?

Hi all! I'm a classically trained pianist but have no prior experience with digital music or any experience trying to record myself playing. I own a Yamaha P-515 keyboard. When I play, the volume is set to about 70%, and I'm using the "CFX Grand" soundfont thingy (it's the default piano sound when you turn on the piano). I am trying to record myself playing with the following setup: * I have two stereo cables, L and R, plugged into the back of the piano, and those cables are plugged into... * A Zoom AMS-24 Audio Interface (which has a toggle for "Mic Line" vs "Guitar"—I chose "Mic Line", and all the other knobs are set to 5), which itself is connected via a USB-C cable to... * My Macbook, which is running Garageband. I can record myself just fine with this setup, and it "sounds" exactly like I played it—Garageband accepts it as an input instrument, I play a song, and when I'm done, I stop recording and I can export the result to an MP3 file. However, I'm noticing a few notes sound "buzzy"/strange/have some unwanted resonances, particularly in the upper registers. I can't really hear these resonances with my ear when I'm playing (the sound plays over the built-in piano speakers), and I actually can't hear them as well when I'm listening to the recording with my nice headphones, but it's very noticeable when listening over laptop speakers or phone speakers. And since lots of people listen on those devices, I want it to sound not-terrible for them :) If I were recording via a microphone or something, I would suspect something physical was going wrong (e.g. something in the room buzzing/vibrating). However, this is just "recording" straight off the line, right? Like it's just recording from the cables I have directly plugged into the piano. So I assume whatever is making those notes sound wrong has nothing to do with the physical room. Here is a short recording that demonstrates the problem: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18LQvlTq2tKUxFhJAFJc_6lCYRQUtbeJE/view?usp=sharing (The file is also attached to this post here.) It is particularly noticeable in the notes I play at 0:03 through 0:09. Does anyone know what might be going wrong with my recording setup? Or, barring that, does anyone know some way to fix those funky/weird resonances in post? (Is there some Garageband tool that can filter those out?) Sorry that I don't really know many technical terms for music recording or anything like that, but I'd really appreciate any help y'all can offer. Thanks! (And, since this is a video game remixing forum: special kudos to anyone who recognizes the melody in my recording!) weird_resonance_for_upload.mp3

OCR03538 - Chrono Trigger "When Hell Freezes Over"

I love this remix. It does really get going after that extended, slow intro, and it's so worth the wait. This is the perfect pick-me-up for a rainy day, or any grey winter's day. - Yesterday

OCR04494 - Final Fantasy VIII "The Infested Arena"
derezr replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I can imagine this playing during a scene where a film noir detective is searching for a vital clue, or following the lead suspect down dark streets; but it's also not so dark itself, and I agree, it's a very pleasant listen. -
It was posted today! ❤️ I felt like it fit perfectly between "The Ivory Gambit" and "That's Not Funny", so I'm afraid "The Infested Arena" had to make room for it (even though I can still imagine it during a scene where the detective is searching for a vital clue, or following the lead suspect down dark streets).

Wow! This is gorgeous. The cello elevates this from already a really good remix into a great one. And the entire EP is excellent.

Next up is "The Snake Eater's Palace, Outer Heaven" performed lived in Minneapolis, April 1975, as D.Rezzy's Super Sounds of the 70's weekend keeps on "truckin'".

Thank you! ♡ :D Yeah, it's a bit nutty and chaotic, (as the Judge eval hinted at,) but I did my best to put a unique spin on such an iconic track. ^_^ Hopefully, in a positive way! Very much was a learning experience, and very much could have done better mixing / curtailed some overwhelming parts of the piece, but I do hope the ride was enjoyable and thought-provoking. Also, curious as to who or what 'Redg' is. x'D

Everyone Else: how are things coming along!? :3 First week of September, yay! \o/ Let me know what's up, and what's cooking! I'll re-update the 1st post to accurately reflect who has given me their completed tracks, so we're all on the same page! ♥ :)

Awesome! ♥ Nothing on the master bus, besides any very soft, small amounts of EQ or a very very light compress to get the tone you want to come out in the end. -6 dB WAV render, same specs as they ask for with OCR submissions (e.g. 44.1kHz, 16 - 24 bit, etc.) And I'll handle mastering it. :D Otherwise, I very much look forward to it!!! :D

Ever since Mario Kart World dropped, people have said it's like having OC ReMix do a Mario soundtrack. And, brother, THEY AIN'T WRONG! In a manner of speaking, we've already done it. :-) OC ReMixes of Mario Kart games that would fit perfectly in Mario Kart World!

Trance gate on bass lines.
Audiomancer replied to Audiomancer's topic in Music Composition & Production
Sorry for the late reply!:) This is a video example of the bass line having a trance gate on it. If you compare this to my Twisted Systerz ReMix, you can hear the difference. I used the same synth (Harmless, I love EQing and "filtering" by harmonics) with a very similar rhythm throughout both. First link is an original with the trance gate, the YouTube link is my mix, without the gate. https://drive.google.com/file/d/16-1L_oZ4kt-bB9nf0H0Fqq96peQZiXEU/view?usp=drivesdk -
