Trapopolis Zone - Sonic 3 & Knuckles Album [All Welcome to Jump In]
HoboKa reacted to Seth Skoda for a topic
The main theme here is that Robotnik is now a gangsta. The entire setting of the game is now much like the hood. Robotnik has amassed a battery of automatic weapons, explosives and ammunition. He's about to rain down a living Hell on the inhabitants of Angel Island and abroad. The music should reflect this alternate story. Okay, so... I necroed this ancient thread. Making a huge edit right now. I'm going to say that I'd like to stick to the modern hip-hop/"trap" sound for this album, though I'm not against some R&B or oldschool breaks. Anything goes as far as lyrics, as long as it (at least kinda) sticks to the theme stated above. As far as arrangement standards, I would like to say that I'm not necessarily looking for OC ReMix standards on every track, but I would like this to become an official album on the site (there can never be too many Sonic remix albums), if possible. That's pretty much it. See my necroing reply below for the first progress in years.1 point -

I see someone is getting used to the dark side (Newgrounds) By the way, try viewing on mobile. Much easier on the eyes imo EDIT: What? A dark theme on OCR? Blasphemy!1 point -

Man...this white background and that wall of text (that is small for an old fart like me) is making it very hard for me to focus. ....Right imma go copy and paste that into a word doc. Might I suggest that you color-code certain parts to emphasize the most pertinent points? Maybe rely on bullet points etc. Or maybe I'm just retarded. Anyways..... (edit) No seriously, go do as I suggested. Might garner an extra look-see or two that way. Heard tell that they were gonna do a dark-theme for the forums. But it's not here yet.1 point -

Changing the sound chip, shouldn't be illegal right? If it is, then i will file a lawsuit against whoever said it is. Making a Sega Genesis cover, does nothing to the composition, but more of what the sound is. In this case FM.1 point -

Oh man, this is a trip back in time - so much that only Larry and Darke were in the previous decision. I thought the arrangement was neat and serviceable even back then, but I do understand your desire to give it a considerable production overhaul. Arrangement-wise, there are indeed some similarities between this and the 2005 original - the breakbeat style, Sadorf's treatment of the source melodies, and the structure more or less. I did notice some subtle tweaks here: The intro brought in more source The 7/8 [edit: oops, I meant 7/4 - thanks prophetik] part at 2:07 caught my attention as a fun breakdown The 2:45 section deviated in style and went full contemporary EDM And the ending at 3:28 also did well with combining the C section's melody and the A section's chord structure. Once again, I see it as a knack for demonstrating not only your arrangement improvements over the years but also respecting another person's ideas - in this case, your collaborator. It's obvious to say that the difference production-wise between the two is like night and day. The soundscape now feels vivid when the original lacked in low-end frequencies. The instruments are all clear to pick out and layered well, and the percussion has plenty of punch. Even the piano - an otherwise organic instrument - has a strong reverb that complements the breakbeat origins. I am, however, with Mindwander regarding the piano getting buried under the synths, but it's no dealbreaker at all - just a well-noted observation. All in all, this blast-from-the-past is refurbished in every possible way - hence, I can see it being front-page material. I say this can also be inspirational for anyone else who got their work rejected years ago! YES1 point

Hey OCR crowd! Wanted to quick plug the newest Castlevania tribute album I ran, after last year's X68000 album. https://smarturl.it/thebelmontadventure It's what it says on the package; a tribute to the music from the first 2 Gameboy Castlevania games, Adventure and Belmont's Revenge. Again had a fantastic troop of musicians helping me create this album (Snappleman, Alexander Brandon, Viking Guitar, etc.), which I've wanted to do for a little while but never put into motion until earlier this year. It's got a bevy of genres - metal, rock, orchestral, jazzy prog, electronic from a bunch of remix artists and even a few game composers in the mix! I'm really proud of the variety and skill that was brought to this album while covering some of my favorite music from the series. It's released currently on Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music and more. Proceeds will go to Bat Conservation International to help endangered bat species and their habitats; because you can't have a Castlevania without bats!1 point
