  1. not bad, but there isnt very much to this remix. not that there was very much to the original. it might be minimalist, but in order for minimalist music to work, there really need to be excellent samples. the strings just dont cut it, and there's little arrangement. NO
  2. If OCR had an "inspired by video games" section (which may not be an entirely bad idea) i'd give this a yes. NO
  3. An interesting take on the original. It sounds smooth and pleasant. i would have liked to hear more dynamic play and a different lead than the picazzo strings. other than that, it's solid. YES
  4. to clarify, here are some more reasons why i dislike this mix. Practically ZERO dynamics. all at the same volume level the whole time. it has some cutouts. that's not enough. The drums are the same for nearly the whole song. there's one section of the song in which the beat is different. the bassline is exactly the same for the whole song, again save for one section around 3:20 i believe, when it goes into quarter notes. Nothing ever changes significantly enough for it to change the feel of the song. There is really very little to listen to in this mix.
  5. But that isnt the question at all. Just because the sequencing isnt bad and it isnt the same as the spc doesnt mean we should post it. just because there's nothing techincally wrong with the song doesnt make it a good song. That's ridiculous. "theres been a lot of crappy techno on OCR in the past, and this doesnt make my ears bleed, so lets post it." Standards are rising! This is an uneventful and boring piece of music. I cant see why anyone would want to listen past the 2 minute mark. WORST. JUDGES. DECISION. EVER!
  6. i'm remixing this song right now, so let me get my "no" stamp ready... haha i kid. .... I like the beat, but i think the melodic change to 4/4 is akward and unnatural. I would have added some extra notes to fill some of the space. 2 minutes in, now just melody and drums. not good, considering the square lead sounds nasty. ACK now it's comping! (2:40) i like the subtle synth that is in the background. it's really quite nice. unfortunately there isnt enough else to merit a yes. too repetitive, doesnt build, bad lead, etc etc. NO
  7. someone forgot to tell you guys; this mix is boring! there's not a melody to speak of, barely any harmony, and very little change over an exausting five minutes. it's carried by its beat and occasional breaks and samples. i dont know what you folks are on, but this was 5 minutes of loud, empty, boring, boringness. NO
  8. i'm in agreement with prot. sounds to me like the melody with sparse counterharmony synths once in a while. there are a lot of iffy notes, there arent a lot of good tense harmony notes. it's thin. NO
  9. yeah....the flatness makes me want to stab. that plus there is relatively little arrangement. sounds like it could use some more instruments. it's minimalist to be sure, but i think it shouldnt be. i would have given it a NO
  10. I agree...there isnt enough arrangement here. sounds a little too flat...too small a step up from the original. feel it ought to be thicker in some places. NO
  11. this mix is quite cool up to :30. unfortunately, after that it becomes repetitive, and the arrangement is somewhat lacking. there is no build and it ends too soon. NO
  12. I'd like to go on the record saying that i probably would have voted YES
  13. One of the best piano remixes i've heard. post it. YES
  14. the first thing i notice is the terrible orchestral stab. the guitar playing aint bad. unfortunately the mix is awfully muddy in general. needs some polish. NO
  15. this is strong work, and a solid arrangement of a less than breathtaking piece. the effects, leads, etc are all enjoyable, if not extraordinary. The problems with the sax are that the patch is a little bit....mellow and weak to be featured so prominently, and that the melody line sucks. but that isnt shariq's fault. YES
  16. I completely agree with israfel. while it might be a transcription, i have to immediately give credit for two points, being that 1. The sound, ambience, mood, feel, effect, etc of the mix is unique to the mix. To say that this mix is the original with better samples or with drums, (as has been the case with previously rejected mixes) would be obviously false. There has been an obvious reduction from the original, into a lonely melody and harmony part. The effect of this reduction should not be lost on the listener. 2. this is some sweet guitar playing. while again, i havent sat down to figure out the part, it sounds like it was fairly difficult to play. not that that means it should pass, but the guitar expresses personality and emptiness that add something not found in the original. YES
  17. nice...it's cool, but it doesnt escalate enough, and it doesnt end well. you've got a groove, now work on the storyline. NO
  18. forgive my brevity, i'm trying to go to europe there is nothing wrong wit this mix. YES
  19. okay.... it's the coop. he hasnt upgraded his samples. strike 1. the bass has reverb, and it sounds incredibly muddy, especially in the beginning. I enjoy the arrangement, but we're getting to a point where we need a balance of both arrangement and soundquality. there's no excuse for not having better samples. there are plenty of options. so this gets a NO
  20. first the obvious, the samples are terrible. not enough for a no in and of itself, but there are some other problems. the attack on some of the instruments, particularly the strings and vox, is too slow. makes it osund mushy. the el. guitar section is interesting, but it's dry. use some reverb. this is an interesting arrangement, but the samples really interfere with this mix's listenability. NO
  21. It's Jiggalo John. Playing the piano. YES Shorter than usual, but still well done.
  22. it's not a midi rip, but nearly the only way it expands upon the original is in its groove.
