  1. i havent played either of the two games, but isnt this from radical dreamers? i recognise it from that jaroban thing, and perhaps others. whatever. i agree that the violin is very dead sounding. the pads could do interesting things if more complex chords were played. it's not bad at all, but it's really just vanilla. NO
  2. the samples are hurting this mix. ugh the...uh....thing, that comes in at :55 makes me very unhappy. there's distortion all over the place. work on your samples and mastering, as it is, this is unlistenable. NO
  3. The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
  4. ah this is so annoying! the melody is a third down from where it should be. it sounds terrible. the harmony is right, the melody is right, but they ARENT IN THE SAME KEY. did you not hear this? aside from that, this is quite empty sounding, you forgot to add a bass (which seems to be most popular "OOPS" of the day) the guitar at 2:10 comes in way out of tune. this remix is way too thin. maybe if you fold it in half, it will....bah nevermind. NO
  5. very nice intro. excellent interplay between the guitar and flute This is a very nice suprise. the dynamics in this mix creep in and out like the tides, which fits right into the aquatic theme. Two distinct moods are represented here, the bright and lighthearted flute/harp duo, and the forboding strings. The contrast is really quite effective and beautiful. I wish it were longer. YES. Oh yeah, theres a terrible note at around 1:55. ouch.
  6. the first minute of this mix is very low-fi and cookie-cutter sounding. i'm waiting for the melody. the groove and feel are okay, but they are nothing special, and they dont change through the whole mix. the melody repeats too much, and not enough is done to integrate the melody and the rest of the song. it just seems disconnected. an akward juxtaposition. NO
  7. hmm.. not bad, but there are some akward little issues. The beginning is exceptionally choppy. it jumps around from idea to idea, and while this may be intentional, it's a tricky thing to pull off. Also, the harmony in places is way off. it sounds oversimplified in most places, and simply wrong in others. it's unfortunate, because some of the use of samples from the game in this track is very creative and interesting, especially the ending. i just wish the mix attached to it was more polished and had more depth. NO
  8. There are a number of problems with this mix. The biggest one is that the rhythm guitar is in a different key from the melody, and the harmony and chord progression are both way off. aside from that, there is no bass, and the mix, as a result, sounds flat. needs to be filled out. NO
  9. NO this is the original with drums over it. need i post the pic of djp?
  10. I'd hate to think that i'm going soft, but i really just dont see what the problem is here. This is a beautiful sounding mix. It sounds to me like it is superior to the original in every way, and it certainly adds new elements to the original. This is clearly a remix, not a cover. I hear harmonies and ideas that were completely absent in the original. i also have no problem with the hi-hat. While I agree that this isn't bLiNd's best work, nor is it the most interesting trance piece on the site, it is enjoyable, and it sounds great. While I have never really been one to give a mix the benefit of the doubt, I see no doubt here. djp thinks this is worthy of a direct post as long as it isnt a cut and paste of the original. It isnt, and i'm going to agree with his assesment. YES
  11. Larry Penis, i mean Oji, wants me to bump this thread. Krypton Sucks
  12. it hurts to say it, but you're right. the sounds are very reminiscent of the mother brain sequence, but there is simply no melody in common. i'm changing my vote. NO
  13. There is a very interesting groove to this song. The various riffs make for some very interesting harmonies against the bassline. The harmonies and the synths all give a very spacey robotic feel. there are also very nice dynamic swells and breaks. Well done YES
  14. meh...Sounds like the original with a drum beat. The sax is REALLY REALLY distorted...how did this get by the remixer? however There are some cool inprovised sections, and the sitar sounds really good.
  15. This is a little rough around the edges. Could use some reverb in some places, and in some areas it sounds bare. It has a lot of strong ideas, but the bass is really hurting the overall sound. it's just too dirty. i'd like to hear this with a little more subtlety in some places. this is a little too in-your-face right now. NO
  16. this reminds me of the soundtrack to jumping flash. it's bright, synthetic, happy, and harmonically simple. This is not necessarily a bad thing. This mix definately has the potential to lull me to sleep. there is a nice wide range of sounds, good dynamic use. It really is repetitive. i would have liked to hear each verse be a little more different. however, this is a very nice listen. YES
  17. This is the same riff repeated over and over. the recording is good, but the players arent together as much as they should be. add pads or something, i dont know. anything to elaborate. what's here isnt enough. it needs to build more. NO
  18. sounds to me like you're using the original SNES sounds. the strings are bad. there is nothing more bland than two note whole note string harmonies. The bass and drums are groovin, but nothing else is. there is a cool flute solo, and there are lots of interesting ideas as far as rhythms, but most of this has nothing to do with the original. elaborate more on the original and try to find some decent samples. NO
  19. <sigh> this was sounding interesting until the drums came in. Okay the lead synth is not pleasant to listen to, and it's not enough. the drums dont sound good, and other than that and the lead, there's only the bass. a countermelody comes in later, but really this is just a little too simple without enough texture. NO
  20. Note: I'm listening to "storm in the desert." This is good. however, it suffers from medlyitis. none of the themes are expanded on too much. however, what's here is strong... i'm going to give this a borderline YES
  21. NO This sounds incredibly synthetic and unnatural. The instrument parts pay little attention to the actual function of the instruments. the rhythms are dead, and the mix is quite cluttered in places. there is little form or flow. However, i respect that the mixer tried to do some very different things with the theme.
  22. Not bad for a first effort, but this sounds a little too straight-forward and simple. the strings dont have fast enough attack for the part, and they sometimes sound muddy. the dynamics dont change, and the samples could use an upgrade. NO
  23. This is quite simply the best-produced piece on OCR. It is perfectly clear that this guy knows everything there is to know about orchestral composition and arrangement. This will be one of the most enduring remixes on OCR. Wow.
  24. I'll admit that i'm on the fence on this one, however i'm keeping my vote a YES. This mix borrows fairly heavily from the two original songs, but it arranges the borrowed elements in a cohesive and interesting way that is definitely different from either of the originals. There is a large amount of creative overlap and original material. This mix falls in some very gray area. Both sides of the argument have valid points, and I've never seen such intense debate on IRC. A decision either way would be justifiable. I made my vote because the mix is not a straight rip by any means. It has been made clear that using in-game clips is acceptable, and this mixes the two themes in a creative way, and adds captivating bass and drum sections. It's a good listen, so I stand by my vote.
