most of this is exactly like the original with bad mixing problems. i nearly decided to override this, but there are a few points when the melody drops out that it isnt exactly the same as the original. NO

*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'All Good Things Must Come to an End'

these drums are so boring. annie is right, there are no dynamics at all here. again the harmony is far too simple. needs color and personality. NO -
amateurish. the melody is too quiet, the drums are too prominent, and they dont ever vary. the synth chords are incredibly lifeless, they are just held for two measures. there is nothing going on rhythmically. also, there are some changes that really dont fit. i dont like the artistic liberties taken. this just needs more interesting rhythms and...well...better notes. *NO* Super Mario World 'Big Boo's House of DnB'

this mix doesnt do very much more than the original, other than add drums and a bass part that doesnt fit harmonically with the original. the bassline never changes; it's two notes, and 50% of them are off. plus when the original changes keys, the bass doesnt. this is a straight up re recording with superimposed drums and bass, and they dont fit together. NO -
the first thing i notice is the grating brass synth. the second thing i notice is that the low end on the bass is too high; it's incredibly muddy. other than that, there are rythmical problems, it isnt as tight as it should be, the guitar doesnt have enough presence, and it is out of tune. these are simple things. sloppy. NO

while not bad at all, i think this is a bit generic. it isnt enough anymore to speed up the melody and slap on some techno drums. while this goes a little farther than that, with ssome interesting synths and a guitar interlude, i think the original isnt expanded quite enough. the best parts of this mix are when the melody isnt playing. OCR01110 - *YES* Final Fantasy 7 'Sector 7 Hath Wrought the Angel'

Okay... this mix has some issues. the second half of the mix, in my mind, is much better than the first. what the first half is lacking is originality. while the drums are nice, what it sounds like for the first few minutes is the original with drums that dont really fit. It felt akward. There were occasional countermelodies, but ultimately it felt empty, and i'll repeat, the drums do NOT mix with the choir without anything else. i think this segment could have used strings to fill in the space. the second half is better, but i think that the second half should have been used as the first half, and it should have developed from there. NO, because the first half relies too much on the original. and the second half has a fair amount of clipping, too. -
i agree. this is very nice on the style aspect, but the arrangement isn't there yet. it repeats until i want to die. mix it up more. NO

Generic, bland, very sparse other than the melody and the bass drum. really needs a lot more on all levels. NO

here's a question: there is a slight but noticeable delay time between when my keyboard sends signal to reason and when reason sends sound to my speakers. how can i eliminate this? -
hmm...doesnt sound bad, but it sounds kind of dead...like it's stuck on one setting, 'busy' thru the whole song. it is definately borderline. some problems my right speaker is feeling lonely. there are some serious rhythmic issues in the guitar solo after 2:15. the ending fades out, consistent with the fact that this mix doesnt ever let up it's a little to crowded for too long. very strong. sometimes the percussion is overpowering, and the harmony instruments cant be heard. also, the little acoustic guitar break sounds really bad. not convincing at all. the ending doesnt resolve. this could use some work, but as it is, it's still a yES -

the bass does wierd things at 1:02. i see what dan is saying about the keyboards, and the playing is not standard jazz playing, but it really doesnt bother me. so HAH. i really like the tension at the beginning of the second bar of the vamp that is caused by the bass playing the flat 9. much flavor. in some ways the song is generic sounding, and the solo doesnt develop, but the song is groovy, it doesnt get too repetitive, and i like the jingle bells at the end. *NO* Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike 'Wrong Restaurant'

the notes prot hears arent theoretically wrong; they are just ugly. a poor melodic choice. my main objection is that it doesnt go anywhere. it could use some variation. it's not bad, but it could be good with some new additions. NO -
This mix is muddy. there are some good ideas, like the pan strings and the guitar, but neither are executed well. the strings are dry. it just sounds like there are two different violins sitting in each speaker. and the guitar comes in loud and akwardly. the guitar also doesnt play anything that adds to the song. NO BTW: you forgot to put in an ending.
-
i have a feeling that this will be passed anyway, so i'm going to dissent. while this idea is pretty good, it comes across as very amateurish. much more could be going on harmonically. this isnt so much a remix integrating the original as it is a simple and uninteresting two-chord progression with an unrelated videogame melody played over it. interesting idea, but it's not executed effectively. NO

OCR01118 - *YES* Final Fantasy 10 'Guardian's Sending'

hrm. the main reason that this gets a NO is that the arrangement is often lacking. the medley is akward, and doesnt flow well. other major reasons are that there are lots of harmonic glitches that really shouldnt be there. while you call this "minimalist" i call it "empty." minimalist music, in my opinion, cannot be pulled off unless the sounds themselves are engaging and set a mood. the instruments in this mix are lacking, and it ruines the atmosphere. i think there are some good ideas in here, but it needs a few layers of polish -
i think it's probably better to err on the side of caution, and while i havent heard the original, this mix sounds like it could easily be a rip. i think posting it is a mistake.

okay...flute is much better... the dynamic glitches i heard have been exchanged for new ones...what the heck is going on between 1:40 and 1:47? the flute just drops for a second, and the strings are still dropping out like crazy. it sounds very synthetic. no change to the drums. not bad, but still akward. guitar is much better now that it is loud. but i dont like the pitch bending in its extremity. ah! no more drums in the interlude around 3:45! excellent. tho i think it could have benefited from some reverb panning or delay or something at this point. it's better this time around, although i still think it is sloppy in the first segment.
