1. Nakoruru (Samurai Shodown): Iori (Card Fighters 2): Mai (SNK Gals' Fighters): (Sidenote: In case you're still curious, Evilhead's Kyo and Cammy from way back when are from SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters' Clash and Card Fighters 2 respectively, both for Neo Geo Pocket Color.) Ultimecia from FF8 (normally I stick to sprites, but I thought I'd give resizing / cleaning up a shot): Plus another dark skin transparency issue (pg. 33) and clean up. LT: All good on these new subs, and thanks for the info and fixes as well.
2. Interesting. Your lengthy posts early in the thread show a firm enough grasp of the English language, so consider me fooled. Anyway, thanks for the clarification.
3. Dafydd, do you lean more towards British English or American English? I notice you typed "humour" and "colour" with 'u's in Toejam & Earl's bio (British), yet elsewhere you say "apologize" and "organize" with a 'z' instead of an 's' (American). I'm tempted to drop the 'u's in humor and color in your bio; do you mind?
4. Went ahead and uploaded text files covering the project's FAQ, Guidelines, and our Progress Report to bypass vB's maximum character limit in the first post. So here ya go Dafydd: http://www.angelfire.com/planet/polo83/MBP_FAQ_Guidelines.txt http://www.angelfire.com/planet/polo83/MBP_List_Progress_Report.txt I formatted every bio from Cloud onwards like so, keeping more or less with the Toyota Supra format: Mascot Name (with a link after it to the original post only for comparison / verifying) Article: Author (linked to profile) Pictured from: Game Created by: Company (also linked) First appearance: Year --- Bio --- Blah blah blah. --- Quote --- "..." --- Appearances --- System Full Game Title (Year) --- References --- (links) As far as editing goes so far, only the Magus bio gave me a bit of trouble. I cut "spoiler" sentences covering his childhood and his alter egos in Radical Dreamers and Chrono Cross, and rearranged what was left without changing the words. You can read it here just to be sure I didn't botch it. I'm otherwise progressing gradually, double-checking every detail. No joke.
5. Double Dragon - Billy Lee jump-kicking: The Guardian Legend ship: Roll à la Mega Man 7: And Poison via Mighty Final Fight: LT: Took Billy (I see lots of people taking that one) and Poison (disturbing sprite, but it turns Prot on; [shrugs]). The GL ship needs a full 32x32 icon with the black background. Cropping it to 25 pixels wide like that looks out of place. The Roll just looks bleh to me, and the waist-up cropping makes it look even more tacky. Interesting choices though, keep it up! Mirrored the center length of the GL ship to keep it even and centered within the 32-pixel width: Plus here's Flip-Top (Mega Man 4 and on): And a couple of Rock sprites (Mega Man w/o his suit in some endings): Also, I was browsing through the thread using Rama's dark skin when I came to this (image-zoomed, pg. 16): http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d13/polo_83/transparency_WTF_1.png Eerie transparencies, no? Understandable if that's why they weren't taken, except, well, Purim was. So unless you already noticed and grabbed a second sprite of her, LT, here's a fix-up: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d13/polo_83/som_purim.gif You can test it as your avatar on Rama's dark skin to check. Same goes for armless Quote on page 23: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d13/polo_83/transparency_WTF_2.png And his respective fix: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d13/polo_83/cs_quote.gif (Hope Rexy doesn't feel I'm singling her out or something.) One last nitpick - in the avatar gallery, Drill Man is from Mega Man 4, not 1. LT: Gracias para todos.
6. Sucks to hear things aren't going your way, Dafydd. Slow progress isn't really your fault. Right now we only have to proofread the bios, and I fortunately have the time and energy to help Linearity with it. (Don't worry, I won't rewrite them this time; just whatever needs polishing for readability and clarity. I'll keep the authors' words intact, starting with Cloud Strife.) When they're done, I'll post them like Lin did: as a .txt file on some webspace somewhere. Finishing before summer might depend on when we get the new mascots, so... maybe by July 26th (this thread's 2nd birthday)? But definitely THIS YEAR.
7. Pauline and Donkey Kong Jr. from the first 2 DK games: Karnov: And Tryclyde from Super Mario Bros. 2: LT: You know it.
8. *BIG EARL BUMP* Liontamer included a "Pictured From" line in the Wiki'ed Toyota Supra bio, but we never discussed the need for this detail. Sometimes it's intuitive given a mascot's sole game appearance or titular namesake; sometimes it isn't. I think it's okay; it helps dispel confusion over which Final Fantasy that Chocobo appears in, or if a reader's like "THAT'S Alex Kidd? I thought he looked like this..." Plus it's changeable if djp does plastic surgery on mascots like Mai Shiranui and the Hulk. So I compiled the following list as best as I could. The ones that weren't so clear were the Lemming, the Doom Trooper, and Earthworm Jim - the sites I combed didn't explicitly pair official / promotional art with their games, so I tagged a (?) after them. (The Lemming in particular could use a proper system / year add-on, since there's more than one game called "Lemmings.") ---------- Link - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Crono - Chrono Trigger [2, 98] Hiryu - Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes Aeris Gainsborough - Final Fantasy VII Mario - Super Mario 64 Mega Man - Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes Leon Belmont - Castlevania: Lament of Innocence Sonic - Sonic the Hedgehog Alex Kidd - Alex Kidd in Miracle World Pac-Man - Pac-Man World Ukyo Tachibana - Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage Terry Bogard - The King of Fighters 2001 Samus Aran - Metroid II: Return of Samus [13], Metroid Prime [40] Ness - Super Smash Bros. 9. "All Your Base" Cats from Zero Wing: LT: Ha! Genesis sprites tend to be on the dark side. Brighten it a little bit, and it's a go. Awesome cropping choice. FF6 - Terra in Esper form, plain and with border: LT: Border. Excellent! And do any of these (the Defenders of Dynatron City) look okay / non-ugly enough to be added? LT: Something about those greens and purples is just...[shudders]. Reminds me of the garrish colors of the early '90s. Just 1 and 4, plz, but thanks very much. Here's your order, sir. One brighter Cats, --> A Buzzsaw Girl, And a Ms. Megawatt. LT: Pleasure doing business with you sir. You are a boon to this project!
10. Amagon: Dizzy the eggventurer: The Solstice wizard: And here's the Space Invader U.F.O. within bounds: LT: Dizzy's an ugly sprite. I poo on it. The rest are sweet.
11. Sure, whatever floats your boat. Any quote can be replaced by something more fitting / cliché / outrageous, if you're in the mood to scour Game Script files on GameFAQs / cutscenes on YouTube / any game a mascot appears in (Toad's and Samus's quotes were from Mario RPG).
12. Just thought I'd chalk up this list for the mascots that don't have a set quote... 001 - Link: "Hut! Yah! Teh~!" (sword-swinging grunts) 002 - Crono: "The vengeance of the future we killed is about to begin..." (in Chrono Cross) 003 - Hiryu: "Take me to your boss!" 005 - Mario: "It's-a me, Mario!" 006 - Mega Man: "I am more than a robot!!" 007 - Leon Belmont: "This feeling... Are you a vampire?" 008 - Sonic: "This game of tag is boring; I'm outta here!" 009 - Alex Kidd: "Jan-ken-pon!" (rock, paper, scissors) 010 - Pac-Man: "WAKAWAKAWAKAWAKA..." (eating pellets, obviously) 012 - Terry Bogard: "Fighting's brutal. You can only bet on yourself!" 013 - Samus Aran: "I'm resting up for Mother Brain." 014 - Ness: "PK Fire!" 017 - Cammy White: "Your missing teeth will remind you of my victory!" 021 - Barret Wallace: "It's the damn Shinra! It's never been nobody but the Shinra!" 022 - Cloud Strife: "I don't care what your names are. Once this job's over... I'm outta here." 023 - Ulala: "Stay tuned!" 026 - Vivi: "What's the point of living if you can't feel alive?" 032 - Fei Fong Wong: "Dreaming... I was dreaming... Perhaps it may have been but a long forgotten memory..." 033 - Yuna: "As I bear the darkness into battle, my suffering becomes my strength." 038 - Azel: "I am... the only one... that can destroy the Tower." 039 - Toad: "Hey Mario! Lots of people use something called a "door" to go in and out of their houses..." 047 - Mega Man X: "Zero..." 051 - Dr. Robotnik: "This time I'll take your lives, as well as the Chaos Emeralds!" 056 - Beat: "Wow, you're faster than you look! We'll give you a hand." 059 - Earthworm Jim: "Groovy!" 074 - Frog: "Lower thine guard and thou'rt letting the enemy in." 077 - Yoshi: "Yoshi!" 078 - Tidus: "Could this be the end? If it is, I want to tell everything." 081 - Vega: "Handsome fighters never lose a battle!" 082 - Serge: "Who am... I? Who are... you? You're not me. I'm not you. I am reality... You are..." 085 - Sol Badguy: "You want to play games with me? Next time you'll die." 089 - M. Bison: "Get lost, you can't compare with my powers!" 091 - Claire Redfield: "What's going on? I arrived in town and the whole place went insane..." 097 - Terra Branford: "Hope... How can anyone put their hope in me?" 100 - Captain Falcon: "Show me your moves!" 104 - Metal Slug: *fires Vulcan cannon* 110 - Toejam and Earl: "Crank it Earl!" 114 - Ryu Hayabusa: "Who are they... They seem to be following me..." 115 - Penelo: "You're no good to anyone if you're locked away in a dungeon." 117 - Metroid: *saps Samus's energy* 118 - Deku Link: *plays a multi-headed trumpet* 119 - Bonus-kun: "A sandbag would be more responsive than you!" 120 - Kraid: *shoots claws* 122 - Ruto: "I was just lonely, that's all... Just a little!!" 123 - R-9A Arrowhead: *explodes* 126 - Ridley: *screeches* 128 - Turks: "...because it's our job." 129 - Sora: "I know now, without a doubt. Kingdom Hearts... is LIGHT!" 130 - Chocobo: "WARK!" 132 - Tira: "I should have known I couldn't live without this..." 133 - Edge: "Do you have anything to say to me? Eh? Eh? Eh!" 134 - Batsu: "I'm going to use everything that I have!" 144 - Blaze the Cat: "Hmm, it seems you like to play with fire. Let me light up your fingers then!"
13. Missing from the list is Magus (page 34, between Yoshi and Wario). And I believe it was decided to merge the two Samuses under one bio, recounting her origins rather than the Prime timeline. Here's the long versions of Jon Talbain, Lilith, Morrigan, Lord Raptor, Hsien-Ko, Jedah, and Bishamon. So in summation: 150 mascots - 4 repeats (Crono [2 / 98], Samus [13 / 40], Zelda [28 / 94], and Solid Snake [65 / 147]) = 146 normal bios + 7 long Darkstalkers bios + D.S. "What Is" spiel = 154 total
14. ^ Looks like Charizard (without wings) on the left, and that's Kabutops on the right. Love the high "lights." February 23rd you say? Sure, why not. I'll see what I can chalk up.
15. Actually, it's right here: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5058 You might be viewing threads sorted in a shorter time span (try adjusting it at the bottom of the thread listings).
16. Maybe the last guy should just be red: ...since the other accepted Invaders are blue, green, and yellow. *shrug* LT: Red looks good, but make it so that the edges of the sprite don't touch the images borders.
17. Actually, Coop, some Space Invaders were already submitted here (link). But you can probably do something with this guy you subbed: ---------- Anyway, since it's impossible now for LT to edit comments into posts with more than 4 images in them, I'm helping Doulifée out with his post here (linky linky). Here's a one-image screen capture / visual aid: Larry can leave comments for Douli's avatars in my post. LT: Took Rachel and Sensei from Advance Wars, the second Phoenix, and the second Harumi. There's no reason to make the backgrounds for the Advance Wars sprites transparent. Just resizing them with their existing solid backgrounds looks good, IMO.
18. "You have included 15 images in your message. You are limited to using 4 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again." This is a burden when posting in the avatar thread. I posted 4 just now but have 11 in reserve, and it feels cumbersome to postwhore. Can the limit be lifted for that thread?
19. No harm done. If necessary, just take apart one's post to address whatever tidbit you're aiming for. (Also, Capcom's practically synonymous with retcons and plot holes...) ---------- But back to avatars. Here's the Bad Dudes, with backgrounds and transparency: LT: With backgrounds is excellent. Thanks!
20. Yeah, I got the lowdown on Wikipedia some time ago, but thanks Coop. I quoted full sentences of LT's relevant comments back on page 13 in phpBB (now page 20 due to the new 10 posts / page limit). Looks like we'll also need to get used to the new quoting formation as well, to avoid: "Originally Posted by On page 13, Evilhead" and "Originally Posted by He also"
21. Looks like a one-pixel fix: LT: Excellent.
22. Heroes - Battle of Olympus guy and Mike from Startropics 2: Vehicles - Excitebike and R.C. Pro Am: Baddies - Agahnim (Zelda 3) and Earthbound's Spiteful Crow: And some damsels - Lufia and Zelda (SNES): LT: Awesome choices, bro. Took everything except the R.C. Pro-Am car. If you can just brighten that up a little so that it's more along the lines of the other avatars, I'll definitely add that as well. Nice work. Edit: Like this? LT: Well played.
23. It was removed in the second Lockdown. You can get it here.
24. I first heard Psycho Underpants in this Newgrounds game and have loved it ever since. From the slimy bass mimicking zombie guts to the Halloween organ and warbly synth lead, this brings the brooding source to a level of arcade adrenaline rushes. It's an excellent track to djp to; just listen to the chorus notes bouncing back and forth, high and low. Love the percussion during the breakdown. I don't know where djp gets his wild synth lead interpretations, but they work wonders at 1:55, preparing me for another zombie slugfest at 2:24. And the ending... whew. I'm still in the graveyard, but I'm feeling the wind cool my face as distant chimes relax my soul.
