  1. What did you think? Post your opinion of this ReMix.
  2. If you'd still like to vote YES, give your reasoning behind it, but I don't see what "opting out" does, per se.
  3. Emu summed it up well. I would have liked more melodic interpretation, but the live performance flair and subtle variations within that did provide the level of interpretation we call for. Beautiful arrangement & performance, Johnathan. Sure, you could call the levels a little quiet, but it's loud enough and everything has room to breathe. Definitely wouldn't require a louder version, no way. YES
  4. There are only 8 Double Dragon series mixes on the site despite the NES trilogy in particular having awesome music. And only 3 from the original Double Dragon. You see that? WillRock is right. THIS IS BULLSHIT. :'-( Any VGM from the core Double Dragon series is pretty strong, and virt killed it with Double Dragon Neon. Let's see if anyone can find some inspiration. I'm proposing this: 1. If anyone in the next 6 weeks submits a passable Double Dragon arrangement (old or brand new), we'll post it! 2. If we get 6+ solid total tracks by the community by mid-February, we'll aim to release a quick EP soon after, since (surprisingly enough) there are also not many fan arrangement albums for anything in the series. If this idea works to get a few good arrangements, I'll continue this on a regular basis with a new series, and we'll also involve fan voting on what underrepresented comes next. Check out the core series music, and use this thread to announce what you're working on and share works-in-progress. I'm Larry.
  5. No. Always verify someone else's work for yourself. The track was 5:39-long, so I needed to hear the sources used in at least 169.5 seconds of the piece to consider the VGM source material dominant in the arrangement, per the standards ("The source material must be identifiable and dominant."). :50.5-1:06.25, 1:19.75-1:52.5, 2:30.5-2:34.25, 2:50.5-2:54, 2:56.5-3:08, 4:05.5-5:09.25, 5:10.25-5:16.5, 5:18.5-5:25.75, 5:27-5:39 = 156.5 seconds or 46.16% overt source usage Basically, I had what Emu had. In a vacuum, I love the piece. I won't go as far as to say the soloing was "indulgent," because it's not. But things tilted just a bit too far towards non-VGM composition as far as the standards go because the soloing and original writing was so extensive, including the lengthy introduction and middle sections. Would have loved to have heard more cameos or references worked beneath the soloing just to tie it into the Zelda source material somehow and ensure that dominated the arrangement. That said, I've always voted down tracks with sources used somewhere for less than 50% of a track's length. A pass here would be relaxed and lean toward musicianship, but be arbitrary and inconsistent with stating that the source material has to be dominant. If there's any source tune connection's I'm missing, I'd love to ID 'em and not have to be the bad cop. NO (resubmit)
  6. Rubber stamp. Y'all dun good. YES
  7. Nowadays? Everything.
  8. I'd vote YES on musicianship, BUT how is 1:52-2:30 from one of the sources? Wes? I didn't recognize any of that from either source. If that section is original, that would push it down to a NO for me due to having more original writing than VGM arrangement.
  9. The core breakbeat felt like it was leaned on too much and was definitely repetitive for me by 1:26. I could also see some complaints about the lead synth needing variation on the sound, and would have liked to have heard some changeups with the lead sound. Melodically, I would have liked more interpretation, but the overall expansion of the source tune was handled nicely, like OA said, with strong energy. I thought the overall levels were too loud, but I'll just take my old man complaint and put it to the side. YES
  10. Though not a dealbreaker at all, the melodic handling of SoS was repetitive, so I would have liked to have heard that go in some different, more varied directions. That said, the adaptation to guitar & transposition of the melody were melt-'em-up smoove. I agreed with Chimpa that the subtle original writing additions and two other OoT theme cameos ("Requiem of Spirit" from 1:53-2:03 & Ocarina 'Song of Time'" from 2:22-2:30) provided enough substance to help mitigate the repetition concerns. Beautiful job, Benjamín; after so many promising submissions that didn't make it, I'm glad to say welcome aboard! YES
  11. LOL at the generic "AY! AY!" trap vocals. That was probably my lowlight, since they were kind of lo-fi sounding and sounded stapled on in the back instead of seeming like it was part of the same soundscape. Not a huge deal though. Even in the more minimal sections, like the initial build up, Jordan used chords explicitly from the source, so the connections are there practically the whole way through. Aside from the sampled vocals not being a perfect fit, the adjustment to trap and the ear candy added here both clicked very nicely. Welcome aboard! YES

  13. Could someone lay out the A-to-B connections so it's more clear?
  14. It's in the long-term plans. So maybe a few years from now, but something that's being worked towards via YouTube.
  15. Correct. Rob & EAR should also be visible the next time we sync the site with the database.
  16. We sync the database with VGMdb's information, and if the artist isn't already in the database at the time (i.e. has an individual OC ReMix approved on the site), then they don't get matched to anyone in the database to appear on that page. When that happens, I have to manually add the information in, which I can do later. Desert Catz are just a group name for two artists with mixes on the site.
  17. A bit long, and like Polo said, would have benefitted from some more tweaks/variations here and there. That said, it's easily one of the catchiest and most unsung heroes on the site. If chiptunes are your thing, this is awesome.
  18. The brass articulations from :32-:52 don't hold up too well, but the overall presentation was excellent, and the brass part at 1:05 still holds up beautifully today. I wish the overall sound was a bit fuller, but in no way does it take away from this being a great old-school arrangement. Russell always succeeded in demonstrating the potential of VGM for orchestration, and this makes me want to here more of the Guardian Legend soundtrack orchestrated with today's standards.
  19. Classic mix from back when I discovered OCR. In particular, I enjoyed Stephen's final section going for the rhythmic switch-up to keep the presentation fresh. I'll also add, just learning of the concept of the Sonic Crackers ROM from this mix existing was eye-opening, and it's great the original music saw the light of day in Knuckles' Chaotix, which is more than can be said for so many abandoned games.
  20. Fixed PW issue by removing that old sig image, and corrected songs (will be fixed on site the next time it syncs with the database), though when Pixel first released names for the tracks, the corrupted English was there.
  21. Just co-signing on these votes to acknowledge the fun arrangement and performance by LBC. YES
