  1. Only the potential of having the relevant info here withheld on purpose. I'm assuming the best though.
  2. Just noting that, though I heard it, I didn't mind the track balance at all. http://www.tzone.org/~llin/psf/packs2/FF7_psf.rar - 321 "The Great Northern Cave" David Crowder Band - (13) "Do Not Move" [A Collision] I just don't see why you weren't upfront with the tribute, Mike, when involving this track on the FF7 project or submitting it here, as the arrangement title from the album title makes the David Crowder Band tribute pretty apparent as is. Whatever the case, there was 0 reason not to be informed of the DCB usage. Purposeful or unpurposeful, just a bad call. It was lame hearing about this from a fan way WAY after the fact: I got a few ideas from that song, yes. I believe I changed enough for it to be considered a new song, but some of the intro stuff I did get from that song. Still props for also paying homage to such a kickass song. Wouldn't have heard of it without this track. The usage of the DCB portions fit pretty seamlessly into the arrangement. Regardless though...
  3. http://tzone.org/~llin/psf/packs2/FF7_psf.rar - 120 "Still More Fighting" & 110 "Fighting" Aside from the car wash analogy, BGC read my mind. I don't usually quote, even when I'm in agreement, but that's how well he encapsulated my thoughts when I fired this up yesterday evening. Unfortunate too, because the arrangement had some good ideas, but the follow-through in developing them to their full potential wasn't there. Definitely a significant amount of repetition. The boomier drums sounded like they were Plus those acoustic and electric samples are used poorly, leading to a disparity in instrumentation quality. :39's robotically sequenced stuff is cringe-worthy. Brass samples at 1:18, and most noticeably at 1:24 are really exposed. I say all this, Reuben, knowing that you're typically an excellent arranger, and I definitely respect your moving out of your comfort zone. Once you get more time in with these sounds and learn 'em up and down, the execution will have synnergy with the arragement. But how it sounds now, definitely a case of the arrangement having some faults and the poor instrumentation execution doing nothing to help out. WIP-level at this point, and it shows. Good luck working on this further if you choose to, Reu. Looking forward to your next submission! NO
  4. -------------------------------------------------------------- http://tzone.org/~llin/psf/packs2/FF8_minipsf.rar - 403 "Truth" Once this started I said to myself, "I know I've played this on VGF." And indeed, there it was way back on VG Frequency #75. You definitely should have subbed this back in 2005. Nice intro keeping the instrumentation style of the original melody but beefing it up as well the trance elements surrounding things. Hit the source's chorus at 1:35 for a nice change of pace. I thought the oboes were all good myself. Moved back into the trance groove at 2:51 before the source melody returned at 3:18, albeit pretty low in volume to me. Nothing wrong with it playing second fiddle until 3:33. Nice variations on the chorus at 3:32 to keep everything fresh. Definitely enjoyed the writing of 4:54's final section for the close. I was feeling all of the sound choices involved. Good stuff all around. Solid production, dynamics, and sound variation, complimenting a creative, well-developed arrangement. YES What was that one FF7 mix you showed me back in 2004? As far as I remember, it was based off some snow theme. Whatever it was, it was pretty sweet and I never heard a peep of it again.
  5. Real & Remixer name: Reuben Kee email: reu@reubenkee.com website: www.reubenkee.com url of song: Name of game remixed: ff7 Song: Still more fighting & those who fight Composer notes: Objective of this project was to try to emulate the electric guitar as close to human sounding a possible. Though it doesn't have the flexibility and diversity a professional guitarist could provide, I tried to have it stay close to the melody line as much as possible while humanising it with vibrato. The vision behind this piece was a bunch of sexy kawaii girls fighting off many ugly bad guys and finally the boss, which ironically has a flip on the themes used; boss theme for normal baddies, normal fight theme for big boss fight. Generally its just a fun piece, hope you guys have fun listening to it - Reu
  6. Now that you're involved in the arrangement, I wouuldn't count a vote from you, BGC. My only real complaint was that 2:59's section felt pretty empty and needed something to help fill out the rest of the soundscape. The drums and bassline weren't cutting it there, IMO. Even in light of some of the production issues, the quality of the arrangement meant David and Luiza already had my YES before, but this version polishes a lot of things up and gets the balance where it needs to be. Nice revisions, Jimmy. I reaffirm my YES. I would recommend getting pixietricks in here to quickly confirm a YES for this version.
  7. Just aggregating my comments from today in #ocremix, so that you have 'em for reference: Not quite feeling the un-tss; the beats there sound rather hollow, though I know you said you weren't done with that part, so clealry not a big deal. Good escalation at 2:25 with the added beats The orchestral section at the end may need some additional humanization, but the writing seemed good. Sounded really cluttered production-wise, though. The string, woodwind and brass seem like they're all in the same frequency range; I'd just see how you can adjust the EQ. Seeing as you just wanted to get the parts down so far, no problem. I always just note an issue like this in case the arranger is treating it like a final mixdown. Love that effect at 2:46; it's a nice transition sound, pretty subtle. You can check out the game in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTF8fsa_sT8. Storm's swimming animation is stupid. I'm also reminding myself here to hook you up with a short mellow source to check out. Also noting Fishy's info from this afternoon that he's gotten started on his Incredible Crash Dummies mix!
  8. 1. Don't really feel like you need a percussion track. 2. After you're done on the arrangement side, once you humanize the parts and add some reverb, this would likely sound pretty cohesive. So, I don't think you need to add anything. 3. When in doubt, I consult literature regarding the game. Hidden Palace Zone actually has it's own Wikipedia page. You may be able to come away with something based off that and relate it to the sadness/mystery imagery you're looking for.
  9. Indeed. I said we update our torrents every 100 ReMixes, and that is the new torrent frequency, about once a year. It used to be every 250 ReMixers until #1600 came out. Since we are currently at ReMix #1629, I'd recommend you obtain those individually.
  10. If you cover multiple games in a series in a fairly even-handed way where no one game is particularly dominant, the first game in the series gets the designation.

  12. That's to cover our ass when someone messes up, as we don't need to be blamed when people forget to link. I manage things day-to-day and contact people nowadays.
  13. Always gotta fix your mistakes.
  14. Added link up top. Always double-check the FTP, by the way. Should be hosted there regardless of whether I linked to it in the first post or not.
  15. * Your ReMixer name - Kidd Cabbage * Your real name - Jonathan Peros * Your email address - jdperos@hotmail.com * Your website - http://kiddcabbage.scott-bloom.com * Your userid (number, not name) on our forums, found by viewing your forum profile - 21995 * Name of game(s) ReMixed - Final Fantasy 7 * Name of individual song(s) ReMixed - "Hurry, Faster!", "Fighting", "Crazy Motorcycle", and "Bombing Mission" Well, this is my first submission to OCR, although not my first videogame remix by a long shot. Most of my mixes are too big to be able to submit to the site. This is also the first mix that I'm confident enough in to submit. I started a game of FF7 pretty recently, and for some of the songs, just thought, "I could make some of these songs pretty rocking." It's a pretty hectic mix done heavy metal, that medlies a handful of my favorite songs from FF7, and I think they transitioned stylistically pretty well. The mix was actually done in a pretty short amount of time compared to some of my older mixes, especially the mixing process - switched to a new drumkit that I'm very happy with. The song is titled "Yet Even More Fighting", and if you're familiar with the soundtrack names, you'll get the joke. I hope you guys enjoy the song, and any comments are very gladly accepted. ---------------------------------------------------------------- http://tzone.org/~llin/psf/packs2/FF7_psf.rar - 408 "Hurry, Faster!", 110 "Fighting", 122 "Crazy Motorcycle" & 102 "Opening - Bombing Mission" Production-wise everything sounded on the distant side on headphones; clean sounds, but like they're coming from a few feet away, not sure why that was. Could be a lack of higher frequencies, but I'll leave it to the other Js to hone in on. Wouldn't mind a refurbished version, but at the end of the day I can live with it. The guitar work and synths could also stand to have more of an edge to them. The way they sound now tends to undermine a lot of the embellishments and flair in the arrangement. norg & SnappleMan's recent "Full Frontal Assault" is a great example of a similar style being pulled off with more polish and power. I'm sure either one them could offer great comments on how to take this to the next level. That being said, I thought the arrangement was clicking nicely for the most part. The resolution at 3:17 was confusing if anything; didn't really make any sense. Is that just what I'm hearing? Regardless, tons of personalization and original instrumentation ideas to really make this your own unique medley of these themes. On the whole, well-executed. Props on winning DoD's September Free Month, Jon. Certainly hope to hear more from you there as well as over here. Good luck with the rest of the vote. YES
  16. I noticed zirc mention we give more attention to RESUBs. Apparently not this one.
  17. pwnt pwnt pwnt. Kicked down by my own black bretheren! :'-( But seriously, glad to see due diligence come through. Well, you've got the guitar stuff down, Marcus. Now you've gotta write the rest! NO
  18. We don't "let anything slide" for the sake of inclusion on a project. What's allowable for a project is more of a question of what game was involved, as well as the project director's discretion. With that said, we did in fact debate DSoP informally among the panel and we'll be debating DQD. Everything that's been debated re: Doom II will be looked at, including how DSoP was decided on in the past, so there's a lot to consider. To clarify though, nothing has been decided yet with this game.
  19. Our eligibility standards have no bearing on the quality of a track, though it's unlikely you read into it that way. Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly, but if I am, what's the long-term benefit of withdrawing a track from the project on account of it not being eligible for OCR? Seems like cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. When the project hits, most fans who hear of DQD won't hear about it because of this site's main page, they'll hear about it through internet word of mouth. A Map18 mix still honors Doom II in the scope of the album project, yet fans who will download the album would end up not hearing what you made as a result of a pull. It just sounds like they would all lose out, AND you would lose out on that opportunity to increase both your fanbase and fan nostalgia for Doom II.
  20. Sound quality...not so hot - LT ReMixer name: Parsec Real name: Mark J. Hadley Email address: parsec_productions@yahoo.com Website: www.parsecproductions.com UserID: 21993 Title of song: "Nocturnal Leap" Name of game(s) ReMixed: Eternal Sonata Name of individual song(s) ReMixed: Make the Leap Additional information about game: An RPG for the XBox 360, taking place in a fantasy dreamworld within the mind of the famous composer/pianist Frederick Francois Chopin during the final hours of his life. Link to the original soundtrack: The music from the game can be listened to from the official website, eternalsonata.namcobandaigames.com Comments about the mix: The main battle theme, "Make the Leap", was a fast and driving orchestral piece. As Chopin was a pianist, I was inspired to make a piano version of the music, and I decided as a contrast to make it much slower and softer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The game's almost as crazy of a premise as Katamari Damacy. Couldn't believe it when I read it. Thanks for the link to the source tune, Mark. Not bad stuff. DarkeSword mentioned that he felt Sakuraba's material could be hit or miss. I liked the energy of this one. The brass samples in it were poo though. Eternal Sonata - "Make the Leap (Regular Battle)" Source comes in at :23 and was all over this arrangement, so no complaints on that level. The sound quality was definitely hurting pretty bad. I liked the thick ambiance here on account of the reverb, but it's arguably too thick and can be scaled back. Part of the problem of scaling it back is that the drier you get, the more you expose the sampled piano and it's lack of realism, which didn't sound that strong to begin with in a lot of places. You need more post-production refinement of the sequencing to make the performance sound smoother and more organic-sounding. As is, much of the performance sounded more rigidly played than what the writing implied. Unfortunate too, as there were some really nice, emotive moments apparent in the arrangement when the performance flowed better. It also felt like a ton of frequencies got lopped off somehow. That combined with the ultra-rough production was too much to look past. Sorry I can't offer more specific criticisms, but hopefully the others will have good insight and recommendations. This is a really nice base, but needs a lot of TLC on the production side so that the arrangement isn't undermined as much as it is now. I noticed you recently signed up for the forums, so please make use of the Works forum and particularly the ReMixing forum to ask specific question on how to improve with your current tools. Sincerely hope to hear more from you. NO (rework/resubmit)
