  1. Speaking of errors, lemme know if you want me to proof that article for syntax, Pistol Pez. "ReMix" and the like.
  2. I said the source was something that could suit Sam's style. I didn't say this sub was anything like it.
  3. You be careful there, Brandon. I'll have to beg you to rejoin the panel.
  4. Preety swank now. You already got my vote. Good luck with the rest, though I'm feeling pretty confident on it.
  5. I knew about this! http://oc.ormgas.com/links.php?18
  6. I'd say K-Damacy series for sure, BUT Gerard Marino told me at VGL that he will give you whatever you want (MIDIs, sheet music, SFX) if you want to do a God of War mix of one of his tracks. Just contact him, drop OCR just so he knows where you're from, and hopefully he'll hit you back.
  7. I think it's fine, and established. I like it! (Also, would have posted this before all the project WAVs were finalized tonight. )
  8. This is...avaris??? Aight man, quit playin'. - LT name: Shaun Wallace email: avaris.studios@gmail.com remixer name: avaris 88369 Game: Super Dodge Ball System: NES Composer: Kazuo Sawa Year: 1989 Copyright: Sony Imagesoft Source: Team China http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/nes/index-sz.html This mix is for the Super Dodge Ball: Around the World Project. Please do not release the song until the project is released. Tanks. There is a description about the field recording tagged in the song. Please leave it there for legality reasons. If you dudes got any questions please feel free to PM me or visit http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/ . Ok so this isn't the most uplifting or emotional source tune ever. It is however probably the most stereotypical representation of China in sonic form ever created. The beats were heavily inspired by ziwtra. I took one loop in Reason and then wrote some drums behind it. The volume of the drums I wrote are slightly automated by the volume of the loop. I then recorded both instances into Live where some massive slicing and dicing occurred. Since there is really no melody in the source I tried to carry the song with a catchy groove. The bells and plucked sounds were from SteamPipe2 and the synths were done with feldspar. The dizi and erhu were free vsts from Kong Audio. Thanks for listening. ~Shaun -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://akumunsf.good-evil.net/S/Super%20Dodge%20Ball.nsf - Track 7 ("Team China") Now saying there's not really any melody to work with is kind of a cop-out to do your own thing, so let's see what you did with the actual theme. The percussion fading in at :12 and lasting until :37 is liberally arranging the source melody, so that was cool. At :43, we start it off with some pretty loose arrangement. Chorus section from 1:06-1:16 sounds pretty damn nice. Good sound variation, solid effects, solid enough integration of the SFX, slick production, nice use of the stereo field, and the groove was sweeeeet. EDIT: The arrangement basically keeps going on like this, but has solid development and variation within the sound framework Shaun set up, plus the source plays it fairly straight. Didn't mean to imply it was getting too liberal at any point. "Loose" in the sense that the flow was a lot less rigid than the source. Not the best use of the word. 2:19-2:39 and 3:04-3:22 got rather piercing with some of the higher frequencies and should have been pulled back some. Not a huge deal, but would be nice to have that tweaked. Wow, in terms of cohesiveness, this was leaps and bounds over any of your other stuff. Plus, props for this being a solo piece. Let's see if you can be consistent with future submissions. For your sake, I hope you haven't jumped the shark. Keep learning, keep developing. Damn son, you had it clicking with this one. YEAYAH
  9. Original Decision: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10202 Remixer name: Gorgonian username: gorgonian14 Name of game remixed: Final Fantasy 6, Celes Theme Resubmission. Previously rejected with a resubmit suggestion. I changed every single sample used and did my best on production. I am relatively new to the production aspect, but I did try very hard and take a lot of suggestions. Thanks for the opportunity. Link below. -------------------------------------------------------------- http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=ff6 - "Celes" (ff6-122.spc) Not that I'd ever regret it, but I'm certainly glad I went NO last time, given the end result here. And that's really what some NO votes are about; not trying to be discouraging, but pushing artists to push themselves. Nice upgrade of the sounds. I don't recall the arrangement seeming nearly this grandiose or dynamic at all. Great use of the Works forum to solicit feedback and achieve some great results via the help of other forumgoers critiquing away. You really stepped it up on this one and made the call an easy one. Nice work. For the chilluns! YES
  10. Hey guys, This is my second submission, but the first one which I think will actually make it. It's a piano version of 2 battle themes from the Pokemon Gold/Silver games, with the most emphasis lying on the Champion's Battle Theme. Most of the improvisations are middle-eastern styled to give everything the epic feel it deserves. This was also my main submission for the Pokemon ReMix Project. Clash of the Titans ***** Side note: IF the Pokemon Project gets delayed so that this mix is posted before project release, please put it on hold. It is, after all, a project song Contact Info: Remixer Name: pu_freak Real Name: Pieter van Os Mail adress: pu_freak@hotmail.com User ID: 12491 ReMix Info: Name of the Game: Pokemon Gold/Silver Name of songs: Champion's Battle, Trainer Battle Original Soundtrack: - It's track number 47 (Champion's Battle) and 7 (Trainer Battle) ------------------------------------------------------------ I'll have to take your word for it on those sources, since we can't access your link. The stuff sounds pretty...Pokémon-ish, so I trust you. The piano sample sounds pretty cheap. It's all in how your produce it, and it doesn't have that oomph or finesse here. There were some rough spots where the piano sample was exposed worse than others, but overall the sound quality is poor. The sample's of decent quality, and if you're not demanding then it would sound awesome. But there's likely comparable free stuff out there that may sound better. I dunno if you did this via mouse or via keyboard. Sounds like you played it through. The core of the performance itself is fine, but the performance should sound less stiff/rigid in the final product. The textures were thin and dynamically the piece was also fairly flat and unexpressive, the changeup at 3:17 being a notable exception before picking things back up at 3:44. Arrangement-wise, this seems ok. But there's no emotion given off by the composition on account of a lack of pronounced dynamics and the weak piano sample. Hopefully other Js can give you some advice to spruce this up. NO (resubmit)
  11. TheJazzist Robert Valdez theman2472001@hotmail.com ID - 15147 Zelda 3 Dark World Theme I've always wanted to make a jazz version of this song and I heard Gux make a jazz version of this song and I decided to make an actual jazz combo trio version with the head, solo section, then the head again but modified to the players own taste during play. ------------------------------------------------------------------- http://snesmusic.org/v2/download.php?spcNow=loz3 - "Dark World" (loz3-12.spc) The melody on piano was essentially playing the source melody verbatim until 1:25. Then the keyboard that came in for the soloing sounded really cheap, mechanically sequenced and exposed. It just ended up sounding really sloppy and poorly put together, which was a shame as your other sounds were stronger. Finally went back to the source tune at 3:17, with some more interpretation this time, but not much. Sounded like the notes were messed around with to provide a modicum of change, but not substantially. Oh man, the drum changeup at 3:53 did not help. Ambitious ideas, but the execution is lacking. The final result ends up sounding really spotty and rough. NO
  12. Even with the release of the project sitting right around the corner, I wanted to go ahead and submit my second (and last) mix that derives itself from the source "Trail of Blood." My idea and concept for this piece was simple: how would Harry Gregson-Williams do this piece if he was remixing it in the MGS style? In particular, I wanted to capture the "infiltration" genre that he would create. This certainly wasn't easy. Mr. Williams has learned his trade well and has crafted a style of music that is not easy to replicate. The track also proved difficult by remixing a source tune that has no defined tempo. Despite Nobuo's best efforts to thwart someone from remixing this track and Mr. Williams tricky genre, I feel I was able to accomplish something that I'm proud of . The picture I had in mind was the gang getting out of their cells and as they make they're way through the Shinra building, they bare witness to the havoc that Jenova and Sephiroth have brought upon the people in their way. Special thanks to Reuben Kee who gave me some wonderful feedback and help with samples to perfect the sound. I would like to request a link retention in the case of a NO decision. -------------------------------------------------------------- http://tzone.org/~llin/psf/packs2/FF7_psf.rar - 213 "Trail of Blood" Definitely really cool hearing this one given more form and substance, still clearly retaining the character of the original but adding so much more stylistically. This was pretty tight. Loved the subtle dynamic shifts in here, and the instrumentation definitely played up the infiltration genre to the hilt. And no significant treble issues? What?!? And that's all that needs to be said. Solid. YES
  13. Not even given an original title :'-( - LT Greetings, Overclocked Remix! Here is our submission of our cover version of Jeremy Soule's Oblivion Main Title Music. You can pick it up at Hope you and the visitors of the site will like it. With best regards, Epinikion Additional Info: Your ReMixer name: Epinikion Your real name: Epinikion Your email address: epinikion@epinikion.com Your website: http://epinikion.com Name of game(s) ReMixed: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Name of individual song(s) ReMixed: Main Title Music Link to the original soundtrack: http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_music.htm Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc.: Much gratitude to Mr. Jeremy Soule for the inspiration and his beautiful music. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Special Edition Soundtrack - 01 "Reign of the Septims" The intro was sounding promising, but the string samples at :19 sound exposed and awful. And I guess that's supposed to be a brass sample at :44. It's just a total sound quality disparity compared to the speed guitar and drums, which weren't incredible but were serviceable. Let's up the sound quality and get those weaker samples sounding a lot stronger so that there isn't that gross quality disparity. In all things, there much be balance. /Confucious /Aesop /The Bible /Fortune Cookie NO (resubmit)
  14. remixer name: Rozovian ocremix.org userid: 21613 name of game remixed: Zelda: Majora's Mask name of individual song remixed: "Clock Town - Day 3" - I think comments: I went to the requests forum, saw a request for this one and thought "hey, why not?". Since it feels completed, arrangementwise if not else, I felt it would be a nice first submission. The original isn't very melodic, which made it an interesting song to work on. I added a xylophone to symbolize a ticking clock, and that reminded me of a song I've heard somewhere, long ago, in which the tempo slows down during some ticking instrument - I had to try that myself. I might have made too many tempo changes, though. The drums are the same throughout the song, but are overshadowed by the other instruments. Overall, I'm most worried about the mixing. remix link: Enjoy. -rho ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- You're definitely not mixing what you thought you were mixing. That's ok, I'll do the thinking for both of us. (I kid, I kid.) http://www.zophar.net/usf/lozmmusf.rar - 124 "Final Hours" This source tune is really excellent. First encountered it a couple of months after I joined the panel. Miku whined a lot after his resub was rejected, but he really should have resubmitted again, it would have been a great addition. Onto the mix, the lead sound opening things up was very hollow. This could have used something meatier on the lead, but the texture changed soon enough at :24. The claps sounded out of place due to how flimsy they sounded. The overall texture isn't bad, but it's definitely not fleshed out. 1:41 went for another iteration of the source, only with a brass cameo and some really tense string work, before bringing the weak percussion back at 2:11. Not sure what the heavily reverbed woodwinds were doing there. I like the foreground textures, but the percussion was weak, and there was a lack of dynamic contrast. Without having to build an actual groove, the percussion still could have contributed to the song's textures more effectively. Some of the instrumentation would change here, but dynamically not much was going on in the big picture, leaving the arrangement sounding decent but not strongly engaging. Hopefully some other Js can articulate the issues more strongly and hit at some good ways for you to refine this. There are some good ideas at the core, but the execution lacks. NO (rework/resubmit)
  15. Legend of Mana OST - (109) "Pain the Universe" I actually thought the mixing was cluttered for the beefier sections. The sustained volume and density of the track didn't change much, and felt like it was wearing out my ears. Not interpretive enough. Too bad, it's a good arrangement, but you need to interpret the original song more and provide a unique approach to the arrangement. Here, the structure and tempo are basically verbatim with the original song. Even the brief rhythm change here at :45 was exactly the same as the original. The soloing on top of the chord progression from 2:18-2:36 was in the right direction, but it was basically gone before it got going. There were also some more substantial instrumentation changes from 3:29 until the end, but that was too little too late, and didn't make up for the lack of interpretation on other levels. This is a cool cover, but we're looking for something more than that. NO
  16. torrents and mirrors would take a day or two at most, all those other things are irrelevant. Hahahahahaha! Day or two at most! Other stuff is irrelevant!
  17. http://project2612.org/download.php?id=37 - "Oil Ocean Zone" I thought the drums were weak, myself. They sounded like Sega Genesis quality, I'm thinking of the ones from Sonic the Hedgehog, like if you think of the Spring Yard Zone. Produced pretty well though. Vocals were pretty badass. Not enough Oil Ocean, IMO, I thought there should have been more. That's all I have time for. NO (resubmit)
  18. Guilty Gear X Heavy Rock Tracks ~ The Original Soundtrack of Dreamcast - (09) "Suck a Sage (Chipp)" This source is definitely a good choice. Nothing really to say about the arrangement; it's solid. Good choice not bothering with the original's solos. On my usual setup though, this was way too loud. I remember saying to zircon that if Fisticuffs heard this, even he would be saying "Turn them shits down!" Since I'm not on my usual setup, I'm not sure where the usual threshold is, but even without knowing, some portions got really piercing and crowded (e.g. 1:43-2:09). Depending on if some other Js agree, I'd say the volume needs to be pulled back a bit before it goes up. YES (conditional)
  19. I'm not in a position to check out all of the sources like I usually do. If I have an opportunity to come back and add on that level, I will. Yep, I hear ye olde DarkeSword sax! But yes, I agree with DS on many of the samples sounding poor and the sequencing being way too mechanical. The strings are indeed too bright and upfront compared to the lead, and there gaps in the frequency spectrum, with the only lows coming from those really quiet sustained strings as DS already noted. Texturally, there needs to be more going on to fill things out. I read Shariq go "the drums were really weak" and went "wait, there are drums in here?" Yeah, they're in there really briefly from 3:18-3:39, but they're barely audible and don't contribute much. Whoa, what was that at 4:47? Ugh, whatever it was sounded really piercing and just cluttered things up. Was really glad when it dropped out at 5:09. Better volume/presence on the percussion used at 5:37, but the sample sounded cheap and defaulty. Decent ideas, but lots of room for improvement. NO
  20. This is now our oldest submission. Took yet another look through all of the FF11 and FF11:RotZ PSFs, and I have absolutely 0 clue what's being arranged here, if anything. The MIDI site linked to in the sub letter was busted from the day we received it, and looking through other MIDI sites has been a bust. You'd think, based off the arrangement, that the source songs are very easily identifiable. They certainly seem to be. Replied to Marcus on July 27, I believe I may have tried his MySpace (I may not have though), and I just sent him a message on Facebook. Will pursue other avenues in the near future. DS and zirc let me know they weren't familiar with the game/soundtrack. Anyone that has played it, please swing by and confirm that what's being arranged is actually in the game.
  21. Nah, he was right. Forwhatever reason, it said 6/5 before. I just fixed it a few minutes after Jody posted. Pavarotti was a wonderful musician.
  22. I merged it; any duplicate topics I see are merged. I also don't care who's moved on or not.
  23. Was never one of ours. Would have fit in nicely in ye olden days. The arrangement ideas sound pro.
