  1. Sooner or later, you have to give in. https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/realalt104.exe Ha! I have no idea who those first ladies were, though altogether I talked to three of them (Jessica, Johanna & Mallory). One of them, I forget who, wanted to know my age. Once I said 21 and she found out I was legal, she made sure to blatantly indicate that she was an 18-year-old freshman in a um..."enticing" tone. They were all pretty drunk/horny, and I do have to agree that them being drunk made 'em sound ditzy. Nevertheless, if they're genuine female gamers, we'll hang out eventually. Might as well see if they're complete wierdos. If they became show regulars and look good, I could use 'em as my "Frequency Fly Girls" a la the SuperRadioX babes. The chat room felt she overstayed her welcome. She wondered why everyone in there wanted her to bounce, but I pointed out that she wasn't drunk, horny or talking about video games. Those were some key differences! Thanks for j00r suppr0t, Vig! Oh yeah, if anyone wants to call into the show, please feel free to do it and make an ass out of yourself. Thanks to KyleJCRB, Vigilante & Star Salzman for doing just that in the past few weeks! I'm still not able to really do formal, structured interviews yet, I apologize, but feel free to come on the air, shoot the shit and pimp yourselves out. Also, I'm definitely interested in receiving more radio bumpers. If you're down, just lemme know your intent. No hurry on getting anything to me. Thanks a lot for the help, Species; I really loved the show today and I was actually kicking myself that I didn't tell the Brothers Chaps to tune in for this one. I'm calling 'em tomorrow and the archive will be almost as good. I'm really looking forward to seeing how shows #1 & #2 turned out. Thanks for going beyond the call of duty! Thanks to everyone who listened into the show this week. It was a nice full house in the AIM chat. Without further ado, for you stragglers and curious gawkers, here's this week's playlist: Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA) "VG Frequency" - Saturday, September 13, 2003 - 10 PM - 12:15 AM EST 1. Next week, we do have non-OCR and potentially pending OCR works on the way from Red Omen (Terranigma/Chrono Cross), JigginJonT (Xenogears), DCT (Super Street Fighter II) & McNoods (The Secret of Mana), as well as whatever other crud I can dig up. We all know it won't be good anyway, right? Make sure to tell other people that the show is quality, BTW. I sleep better at night that way.
  2. Setting up. IM me to join the AIM chat room. Everyone's welcome. I'm gonna request that we lay low on the requests for just this week. There's a lot of special stuff going on for tonight's show, especially the last half-hour. Thanks, and hope to see you tonight.
  3. Can't wait to hear it. ^_~ Gray's currently having trouble getting a comp with Win95 on it to run a RealMedia stream. He's working on it, but it looks like he's prepared to install Real Alternative on his WinXP PC and make the ultimate sacrifice for God & Country in order to tune in to the show and hear the radio debut of Dezoris Winter. That's dedication. That's 100% heart, baby!
  4. Don't forget: https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/realalt104.exe Pick up Media Player Classic featuring Real Alternative and don't bother messing around with RealPlayer in order to listen to my show. Real Alternative is a smaller, all-purpose, higher-quality pr0g. I'll be doing a fill-in this afternoon from 2-4 PM EST, but it'll be regular music only. If you like my sappy English bands (Coldplay, Travis, Starsailor) you'll be down. Most likely you won't. Nonetheless, make sure to tune in tonight from 10 PM - 12 AM EST. Hit me up on AIM tonight and join the listeners in the unofficial chat room. Someone should record archive this show too. I'm really liking what I've got this week. For tonight's features, we've got a replay of SuperGreenX's newest techno original "Thinking Different", some ambient flavor with SeattleOverCoat's original "Gainsay", Adhesive_B0y's request for Grandaddy "Yeah is What We Had", an "entrancing" surprise offering from bLiNd , GrayLightning's impressive new version of the new age Phantasy Star II mix "Dezoris Winter", as well as the spacesynth stylings of Rayza's pending Gaiares submission "Credits Theme (ZZ Badnusty Mix)". All that shizzle and more-izzle... ...Tonight on "VG Frequency"!
  5. I'm sure you submitting it feels like yesterday.
  6. So people get an opportunity to check out the show this coming Saturday, without bullshitting around with RealPlayer & RealOne, I'm reminding any RealPlayer haters that they can download the bundle for the non-invasive movie player "Media Player Classic". It's basically setup like Windows Media Player 6. Feel free to download the "Real Alternative" installer, which includes Media Player Classic: https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/realalt104.exe Also, if you hate QuickTime or simply find no use for having it alone, you can also download the QuickTime Alternative bundle from me: https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/quicktimealt111.exe With both sets installed, you can uninstall RealPlayer & QuickTime and play regular movie files, MOVs and RAMs within a simple, no-frills pr0g. Thanks a lot to Tricklozen once again for pointing these out to me. As for the upcoming show, bLiNd's got something special to offer for this Saturday, and I'll be replaying SuperGreenX's recent original work "Thinking Different". Red Omen & JigginJonT's recent OCR submissions are tentatively set for the week after (the 20th). And remember, you can always post up, PM or IM me requests as long as a) I have the track, you can send it to me, c) you can provide me with a link. I'll be happy to play whatever VGM you wanna hear. Any music with a VGM-type file format, I'll need to know about in advance (e.g. NSF, SPC, GYM, PSF, VGM, GBS). Also, thanks to everyone again who really enjoyed the first show last Saturday, especially xXoDiAx. Leaving the studio, I of course liked the music I played and having Kyle on the air, but without internet access I felt like the show was spiraling into a clusterfuck since I couldn't interact with the chat room. Thank God I made you peeps laugh.
  7. OML, I literally shed a tear in laughter. What else could I humanly do? The first time I heard that, I said "What in the FUCK?" as if Rayza somehow totally butchered the name of the show! I'm such a gullible bastard!
  8. I've got you covered on all accounts, Ryan. No problem at all, yo. I never played RPGs at all, so I routinely (but playfully) rag on one of my roomies for playing Final Fantasy VI (he insists I call it FFIII) and Chrono Trigger. I remember, I was playing some of DarkeSword's music from ReVamped, and one of my roomates popped in and basically said "A-ha! That's Chrono Trigger kicking your ass!" I said, "No way, that's original game music for an original game, beyotch!" I then started shouting "You want some Chrono Trigger? I'll give you some Chrono Trigger!" and I blasted Frog's Theme, which is honestly too shrill. The next day, I sent him "Enter The Frog" and it pwned him down with its rearrangement quality. So no need to be so modest, Jon. And Xenogears "Live From the Yggdrasil" will make its way on the show regardless of whether it's posted or still in the submission process. Probably this Saturday; perhaps on the 20th. I'll also be taking care of Adhesive_Boy's Grandaddy request as well, so help me God. I'm f'n sorry my internet in the studio cut out just as I was about to get the damn file, Jack. Weak as hell. Thanks again for listening to my test run Saturday afternoon, BTW. It's up earlier in the page, but don't forget. If you hate RealPlayer, but still would like to tune in without Real's invasive crap, download the installer for Real Alternative from my webspace. It's honestly very good: https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/realalt104.exe Thanks again sincerely to Red Omen, Star Salzman & Rayza for creating bumpers so far! And to everyone who's down with interviews/call-ins, remeber, there's no need to do anything now until I can get the proper recording/archiving setup for you. In the meantime, Species will be providing an archive of the debut show of VG Frequency in the near future. Thanks again for the help there as well!
  9. Hell yeah, Mitsuda is definitely sexier than Justin Timberlake! It may just my opinion, but don't discount Masato Nakamura either. He's fine! No, I mean the background music. And I'm afraid I'm currently unaware of the relative sexitude of Nakamura-san. Is he the Secret of Mana composer? Hiroki Kikuta is the Secret of Mana composer, but Masato Nakamura composed the music for Sonic 1 & 2. He's also got tons of JPop under his belt with Dreams Come True. I did recognize the riffage at the end of the bumper as a tiny section from the song "Chrono Trigger". Sorry if I missed anything else, RO.
  10. But here's the nice thing. Someone wrote "Media Player Classic" (spiteware?). It looks identical to version 6 of Windows Media Player (keep it simple), and it includes codecs for RealAudio and RealVideo formats. But why stop there? There's also a QuickTime codec (!). Away, begone, buggy Apple QuickTime Player (hopefully, for good). Procedure: 1) Download the "Real Alternative" package, which includes the tiny executable for Media Player Classic (MPC) and the required codecs. http://www.k-lite.tk/ (See downloads to the left.) 2) Install it (it won't fiddle with file associations, that's for you to do in step 3, which is optional (you can open the file directly)). 3) In Media Player Classic; View|Options... (O). Under Player|Formats, check/tick the RealMedia types. ..and then just open the link; File|Open... (Ctrl+O). Tricklozen, you are my savior, bro!. For anytime in the next week, Windows users can get Real Atlernative from my websapce: https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/realalt104.exe I really encourage RealPlayer haters to get this prog so you can check out my radio show, and thank you again Trick. Now I can uninstall RealOne, that invasive piece of shit! Hell yeah, Mitsuda is definitely sexier than Justin Timberlake! It may just my opinion, but don't discount Masato Nakamura either. He's fine! Hehehe... https://webdrive.service.emory.edu/users/loji/realalt104.exe I'm definitely going to be doing remixer originals at some point in time. I have Colliding Worlds, which Jared offered, and I had the opportunity to play on the first All-Originals show in April. Definitely remind me of Dain's "Cherry Blossom Whirlwind" and Jared's "Final Showdown" when I do another original works show! ----------------------------------------------- For Rayza and anyone else who wanted to know, here's last night's playlist. (If Species does in fact make an archive available, I can add in the track information for the background music I used in between songs as well): Larry Oji - WMRE (Emory University Student Radio; Atlanta, GA) "VG Frequency" - Saturday, September 6, 2003 - 10 PM - 12:05 AM 1. KyleJCrb, host of "Nitro Game Injection", comes on the air to talk about the misspelling of DJ Pheonix, some weak shilling of NGI, juding BEERmix, the craziness of working with Mae, the infamy of BEER7, the non-FM status of VGF & NGI, the surreal nature of seeing Sega collaborate with Nintendo & F-Zero GX, the difficulties of remixing without music theory background, SysteManiac and how long he took to become proficient at remixing, the pronunciation of McVaffe, V.A.G.O., the strange origins of the name Children of the Monkey Machine, Walan, AnimeRemix, SuperGreenX & DarkeSword's originals & Ryu7x "Synthetic Future" suffering the NO Override vote [http://kngi.tripod.com] 18. 11. I'm definitely glad you had a good time on the air, Kyle! I'm lookin' forward to having you on again. And I know you can't do it every time, but thanks a lot for using your Winamp stream to provide an extra feed format for the show tonight. Excellent work! ------------ Liontamer: you see Red Omen's bumper? Juverna: Nope. Liontamer: pretty good; I just want him to change his voice level to make himself stand out more, but it's a great bumper Juverna: Does it have like, music in the background and everything? Liontamer: http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/fireadept/wmrebump.mp3 Juverna: Or those annoying radio whooshing noises? Liontamer: see for yourself Juverna: LOL!!! Juverna: Wow. Liontamer: High standard, to be sure Juverna: Wow, I can't beat that. Liontamer: ha Liontamer: It's not a contest! But if it was... Like I said, Red Omen has set a high standard, but don't feel pressured to do "Can you top this?!?" If you'd like to do a bumper, do whatever kind of style you want. It's gonna kick ass anyway. EDIT: You see? Just like Starblast!
  12. I'll be putting up the playlist tomorrow afternoon sometime. Without the internet available on the station computer, I couldn't put it up now. Thanks a hell of a lot for doing that. I'm very interested in listening to how it turned out. And thanks a lot for the bumper, RO. The only request I have for it is that the music's volume obscures your voice, so you don't seem loud enough yourself. You should revise the bumper if you can, but seriously, thanks a lot for helping me out, plus being the first contribution. I'll be playing Global Control next week, BTW. I would have played it this week, but with the internet crapped out, I didn't want to throw the track out there, but not really be able to talk to the listeners on AIM for the full pimpage. I'll also be playing SGX's "Thinking Different" one more time as well. Hey, Walan, I'd love to have you the show to pimp BEER's uh..."goodness"??? Seriously, I'd definitely down with having you on the show to explain why you're so masochistic. Thanks to everyone who tuned in and saw me go crazy over the lack of internet access I was stuck with, and many thanks to KyleJCRB for being my first OCR call-in of the semester!
  13. I've never actually had that many people try to peep it with 56K, but I know some regular listeners have before. You should just try it, and I'll make sure to play something off Omen Rising.
  14. "VG Frequency: Test Run" is from now until 6 PM EST. Just click on the link in my sig (i.e. Saturdays 10 - Midnight). I'm just tooling around at the studio. The official first show is at 10 PM tonight.
  15. Bumpers/show idents can be done in MP3 form, BTW. I want 'em NOW...or later. How about later? It'll be a bit before I can put them in the Instant Replay machine we use, so there's no hurry. Meanwhile, the station computer had the Blaster Worm on it; hopefully someone fixes it tonight or this show's gonna suck! Some revised show identification notes: You have to include who you are (this is XYZ from OverClocked ReMix) and some combination of a. you're listening to either Larry Oji (sounds like "O.G.") or "VG Frequency"... b. on WMRE/Atlanta, GA or Emory University Student Radio/Atlanta, GA... c. anything else you want to add ("this show is the shizzle"; "you've never heard crap quite this bad since Bad Tuna", "NICE WORK!", etc.) Have fun with it! Mike Chapman e-mailed me last night to confirm the Brothers Chaps interview, which I'm planning on doing in mid-October. [big thumbs up] I'm gonna be giving Mike & Matt a call this weekend to iron out the details and see how they'd like to conduct the interview. Meanwhile, I still gotta hassle the station about our ability to record shows. When analoq eventually comes on the air and gives my show a big fat judges NO (Larry is teh LOSE!!11shift+1), I wanna be able to archive that for future listeners to check out down the line. Meanwhile, my first show is TONIGHT, you pathetic letches. Stop drinking and tune in. [shakes fist] You like video game music? Well, I know you do.
  16. I usually fool around with editing the ID3 tags while I listen to a new mix, but overall, this was such an engaging track that I forgot to touch the ID3 tag and stuck simply to listening to the mix. There were a few issues, sure, but overall this is some tight work from Antonio Pizza, servin' us a quality slice. Have some extra sauce with that pizza, birthday boy!
  17. VG Frequency blog: http://www.vgfrequency.com RSS Feed: http://www.vgfrequency.com/?feed=rss2 Ormgas.com Forum: http://oc.ormgas.com/forum_viewforum.php?18 IRC Channel: irc://irc.enterthegame.com/vgf (EntertheGame / #VGF) WMRE Stream: http://students.emory.edu/WMRE/wmre.ram OCR Message Board: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1489 Radio Show Torrents: http://www.studio-compyfox.de/torrent -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Wow, this stuff below is pretty old...) This is primarily for the fans that I have so far for my college radio show, which I've recently retitled to "VG Frequency". Frankly, I still need my financial aid to pan out, but I'm hoping for the best so I can stay in Atlanta and continue my time on the air. I'm trying to be optomistic. I'm coming back on the air every Saturday night from 10 PM to midnight EST (that's Saturdays 7 - 9 PM for you Pacific peeps), with September 6th as my first show. Lemme get down to business on what I hope to do with it. I'm certainly eager to get OCR/IMC mixers to come onto the show and give interviews, so anyone who'd like to do so should certainly lemme know of their intent. Reply to the thread or IM/PM me. For the moment, I'm not really pressing for interviews or phone calls from mixers. That's because I'd first like to able to have a reliable way of recording the shows and being able to offer fans and potential listeners the opportunity to listen to an interview or phone call they may have missed. Rest assured though, if you're down for an interview, I'll do my best to make it happen. I'm also willing to do webpage-posted interviews through AIM/IRC as well for people that can't necessarily do an interview on the air or over the phone. Not like anyone is obligated to do an interview, but I'm just throwing out the names of some remixer fans of the show in the past. I'd be more than happy to have any of you on the air with me if you're familiar with the show (analoq, bLiNd, Dan Baranowsky, DarkeSword, Digital Coma, EgM, Endblink, Juverna, Ko Miho Leifo, KyleJCRB, Rayza, Red Omen, Science vs. Nature, SeattleOverCoat, SuperGreenX, [praying I didn't forget anyone]). I'm also hoping to get people who only contributed original work in the past to tune into the show and be down with coming on the air (Ailsean, Disco Dan, Injury, Jared Hudson, K. Praslowicz, kLuTz, Last Unicron, Maniac #9, Mazedude, McVaffe, MP, Omniverse, Protricity, Raven8t8, Russell Cox, Star Salzman, Steve Pordon, Suzumebachi, Trance-Canada, Wave Theory [AE, J:/Drive, Digimatic, Sir Cut], Wintermute, etc.). Anyone else involved with OCR who wants to do something? Lemme know. Just let me shoot for late September to early October to start interviews, so I can have the ability to record and archive though. Now the real fun part. Who wants to make radio bumpers?!? I'm looking for egotists who want to hear their own voices on the radio...[ahem] ...I'm looking for artists who'd like to help pimp my show to do station and show identification recordings within the coming weeks. I'm not sure of the file format, but MP3 or definitely WAV is gonna be fine, I'm sure. No one has to make anything at all now, but for those who wanna do something anyway, here's what essentially needs to be mentioned: "Hey, this is (XYZ) of OverClocked ReMix and you're listening to Larry & 'VG Frequency' on WMRE. Pssst...this show sucks." Of course, you should go free form on it and say whatever funny stuff you want, or add in some BGM with your voice, but the example basically shows some/most of the points you wanna hit. Once I get a fair amount of idents, I'll get 'em set up and you'll be pimpin' tru on the air. Some kickers: A) We're still using RealPayer/RealOne only for the audio/video webstream right now. Some people honestly don't mind. And some l33t hax0rs treat it like a fart in church. Look, I hate RealPlayer. With that said, I'm pushing the station to expand our webstream to include Windows Media Player so that more people can check out the show. But RealPlayer's the current option for listening to and watching the radio show. If you wanna treat it like a virus, that's not my problem. If you wanna submit tracks for the show, I'd prefer not to get any OGG files. Don't get me wrong. I love Ogg Vorbis, but for some reason they don't come out sounding right when they're put through the soundboard. I couldn't tell you why. C) For the moment, the only places to chat with me and the listeners during the show and make requests is on AIM through the private chat room "VG Frequency". KyleJCRB, remixer and host of the VGM streaming radio show "Nitro Game Injection", is thinking of proposing an IRC chat that would serve as a collective hangout for all radio shows like ours (e.g. "SuperRadioX", "V.A.G.O.", "The Kyle Clemens Video Game Music Show", etc.). Consider that a potential WIP. D) I'll be doing another "OCRtists All-Originals" show in a few months, so if you're looking to for a place to pimp your non-remix works (including original game compositions [e.g. Flash Flash Revolution, Psyscapes, ReVamped, Vector Mirage, etc.]), we'll be doing that in the coming months. Don't forget the "Double Deuce", which'll spotlight original VGM tracks back-to-back with their respective remixes. IMC & BEER spotlights may also happen, so keep an eye and an ear out. E) Larry's the man. Bump the thread if needed. See you Saturday.
  18. If you check my Listen-To.com history, I looped this one for quite a long time, and everyone I know who's heard "May Fortune Smile Upon You" has been interested in finding out what this was. As a bonus, it's excellent background music when you're with your lady. Blends in perfectly. Not much more for me to say other than :incrediblyexcellentwork:, Jesse!
  19. I'm surprised I haven't commented on "Willed Assault" yet, since I DLed it as soon as it was posted. Like djp was saying, there's a weird vibe about it, so the elements of this song were certainly not what I was used to hearing. This was one of those tracks for me that was somewhat borderline as a keeper on my first listen, but I always listen to the new stuff several times to really get familiar with it and appreciate the music, and Willed Assault certainly kicks my ass. The scraping/cutting effects that Young used are very tight, and this song's so upbeat that it kicks you in the face. This track along with Pr0t's "Savage Seduction" are both tracks that you really like more and more as you repeatedly listen to them and start picking up on more and more details and nuances within the music. This one's got a rich, full sound and heavy attention to detail. Hanging in the IRC chat, Ziwtra (frankly, I still don't know how to really pronounce that) let me check out an early WIP called "Wings" shortly before Willed Assault was posted, and it sounds awesome as well, so I'm certainly looking forward to it. Meanwhile, Willed Assault get some big approval and will certainly see some repeated play on my college/video game music radio show. :excellentwork:
  20. In some portions of the mix, this one had a similar feel to Dan's MegaMan 6 mix (and IMC 6 winner) "Native Knight". [/blasphemy] Personally this wasn't my cup of tea, since I was never a fan of the Zelda theme [/blasphemy], but this is still a well-made track, which is pretty much a given with Disco D.
  21. I've been a fan of this one since IMC 11. :excellentwork: as usual, Ty, and I'm glad to see this IMC winning track make its way to OCR!
  22. On the contrary to some others, I really enjoyed DJ Chako's take on Frostman's stage. It took me a few listens for me to get a feel for it and decide to keep it, and I definitely felt this mix had an appropriate icy feel to it. The lack of bass does NOT effectively kill off "Frosty Delight," and, while not a merely a minimalist track, less does end up meaning more with this one. The main background effect (the one you hear from the very beginning) manages to make this mix fuller overall, and I'd recommend that you weather the criticisms and check it out. Ryu7x's "Synthetic Future" is a great mix as well, but this one is also quality.
  23. I've also had Linoleum Stalactites since IMC-X, and for those that are familiar with the IronMix Challenges, IMC-X was supposed to be an advanced level remixing challenge, with a longer time limit and higher expectations on the level and quality of rearrangement. It's one thing that only Adhesive_Boy and Suzumebachi were willing and able to create submissions for IMC-X, but AB's finished results were VERY impressive now, and I'm glad that this track made it's way on OCR. Like DJP, Geoff and Sir Nuts all said, there's ton of variety here, and there's full, broad, professional sound. I'm not really able to articulate everything I liked about this track, since I'm no musician, but I definitely recommend you try this now, if you haven't already listened to it.
  24. DAMN! [anticipates Star's ego] Goddammit, Star, STFU already! What "Big Shell West Bristol" does for trip-hop, this does for 80s synth-pop. Starblast pulled off a very authentic adaptation to the style. Fellow OC ReMixer Electron, who did an all-80s radio show (The Vault) at my college, would love this track. So how does someone apparently get to wait only a week to get a mix posted...? Because HE [points to Star] made THAT [points to "The Incredible Singing Robot"]!
  25. I thought this was great when 'Maniac let me check it out as a WIP, and the finished product is even tighter, so congratulations on SysteManiac getting his second mix accepted and posted up. If it had been on the main page maybe 30 minutes earlier, around 2 AM as opposed to 2:30 AM, I could have congratulated 'Maniac right over the phone while he called into my radio show, but I hope this here's a close substitute. Dat's sum . In no time, "Belmont Lounge" should be on the horizon.
