Teens charged with "Mortal Kombat" killing
Strike911 replied to Schwaltzvald's topic in General Discussion
I agree with you, but I do feel as if I can understand, at least marginally, why people would be upset when politicians are using news stories like these to try and censor media in general, specifically video games. I do, however, disagree with your gaming culture comment. I think over the years 'the gamer' has come into popular culture, and people that . There is a gamer niche and a community that does adhere to a "gamer culture" type of community. I don't think it's entirely unreasonable for gamers in that community to be a little angry about how the press swings a terrible event to misrepresent video games. I'm not entirely sure if it's good for the industry. -
oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I'm excited about attaching cartridges and discs to it and to get secret bonus levels. ...but clearly, the best part of the bonus disc is Master Chief when you do 2000 cliff hangers in one game. Again, insider cheat info.

No, Sonic is on the 3rd disc. I have insider information.

Teens charged with "Mortal Kombat" killing

a b a c a b b !!! OMG!!!!1 BLOOD CODE!!!!!11111 GENESIS VERSION!!111 ... I don't know how I remembered that. Anyway, this is lame. Blaming a game for violent content is retarded. Parents go out and buy games for their kids, which require the parents' active involvement. What's easier to access is violent television because it's readily accessible and full of violent content, but you don't see anyone blaming that. I hate hearing people complaining about something like they didn't cause it. Yeah, and underage drinking?! Sounds to me like "Mortal Kombat" is the least of that family's issues. I would imagine Midway is sorry for the loss of life, but really anything can motivate crazy people to kill. Hell, Pokemon caused a few kids to hang themselves over cards. I mean, companies can't take the blame for everything. Even if their product influenced a crazy person to do something terrible, at what point does personal accountablity come into play. It comes down to this. If you're messed up to begin with, anything could potentially cause you to go off and kill someone, and parents should be paying more attention to their creepy little spawns to see what their children's issues are. The blame game is not viable, as Midway is not raising your kid. To parents with this mentality, you are dumb bitches. That is all. -
oh man; totally, freakin' worth it. Snake Kirby is awesome and hilarious on so many levels. I had been really bored with the updates lately, but this redeems it!

Interesting item. . . . not necessarily for what it does, but for the likelyhood of items that can be used by teams... what if there's an item that requires two people to use it? Like... a really large gun or something? Hmm... I hope we see more items that can be used for team battles. It would add an entirely new dimension to Smash Bros.

Mario and Sonic in the same video game... oh... wait... nevermind. I think this is the trailer, sure are a lot of fakes though. hah. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OXrjK0C7TI

All of the races look hella fake, the spinning car halfway through the trailer looks hella fake. I'm cool with the acting, but at this point, knowing little about the film and not having seen it, the parts where races take place seems to jar me, removing me from watching a live-action movie into an overtly fake, over the top race. I don't know if they can establish some kind of motif with the fakeness, or if they can spin it so it comes out okay, but right now, I'm intrigued more than anything... and still a little confused.

I do not know how I feel about this. It's like looking at it, proof that directly copying something and turning it live action (in Hollywood) is a bad idea... but at the same time, I'm intrigued and kind of want to see it because it incapsulates all that Speed Racer classic goodness.... everything looks so overtly over the top, but it almost just looks like the style of the entire film, which... is... kind of... crazy. I... I don't know how I feel... I'm having a break down....

SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS (trance mix) WIP
Strike911 replied to Strike911's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Updated !! http://strike911.sanctuslegacy.com/sotcWIP.mp3 Thanks for the comments guys. Unfortunately I updated the wip before I read your stuff, so I will take a look at what you mentioned (if applicable) on the next update. Added a little arp, took away about half of the piano, through in some synths to fill it up a little bit, and added a lot of filters to make it a little more fitting. It's way less repetitve now, imo; I think it's because of the synths that come in. What do you think now? -
Wow. So Sakurai says there will songs from games that aren't represented in Smash Bros... so I wonder if that is also true for levels, because if that is the case then it's possible there won't be an Animal Crossing character represented. I like having tons of stuff from random games that don't have playable characters. More content is awesome. Of course, I guess we also had the Mach Rider theme in Melee which wasn't represented (not including the trophy... trophies don't count though as represented though). I know it's from X, but the song reminds me a lot like a really fast version of a few songs from Phantasy Star Online for some reason... Cool though. I like the fact that we get some synthesized goodness, something which was really lacking in Melee... again, Mach Rider and Flat Zone were the only ones I can think of off the top of my head... so good times. It's got that nostalgic NES sound that although I've never played "X" before, the song makes me feel like it's the late 80's early 90s again. If a Pokemon destroys a smash ball, I know a simple Final Smash that would be perfect. It will start raining pokeballs from the sky that indiscriminately attack all players. So for 15 seconds it would be wave after wave of Pokemon dropping from above. I think that would be easy to implement, and pretty fun. I always liked it when Bobombs fell from the sky in Melee during Sudden Death when it went too long. They need some more stuff like that!

Hey folks, made a new mix. I'm looking forward to hearing how the completed version of this will sound because I have so many ideas for it! Anyway, here's a trance mix from a familiar tune from Shadow of the Colossus. I'm sure you've heart it before. http://strike911.sanctuslegacy.com/sotcWIP.mp3 I haven't implemented an arp yet, which I'm working on for the next update. I don't think I've seen a SOTC mix with a good dance groove to it so I'm taking a crack at it. PLEASE PARDON THE ENGINE REV AT THE BEGINNING... it will be removed on the next update. and the little ocean swishes you hear throughout. They'll also be removed by next update. Right now it's only a bass, some accompanying bass synths, and the melody and beats. I'll add arps and pads in the next update to flesh out the sound. What do you think so far?

Hmm... nothing unexpected, but a little info is better than no info. Some of the models do look crappy... but meh, no worries. I can deal with it. I just wonder if we'll see any old N64 Pokemon thrown back in. I kind of miss Onix and Bee Drill. EDIT: Now that I look at the Pokemon pictures again, I think the minimalist lack of polygons really make the Pokemon pop out from the stage and look more like cartoons or stylistic or... something... they just pop more. Just look. Maybe it's just that they contrast so harshly with the lush backgrounds. *shrugs* No worries. At least you don't have to look at them closely in game.

I have a black belt in Tae kwon do, been doing it for years... eons even... did a little bit of Karate A lot of self teaching to just getting my feet wet in a lot of styles. But Tae Kwon Do is my main gig. Always has been. I really would like to learn Judo, Aikido, or something else grapple related, because while I love Tae Kwon Do and it's done tons to give me proper technique to make my kicks accurate and pretty to look at, I know very little grappling and would like to learn more in that regard. Schools that seem to be popping up everywhere are mixed martial art schools. It looks interesting... but I'm hesitant to try mixed martial arts just because a lot of guys I know that did it cared very little about anything else other than Ultimate Fighter and beating the living shit out of each other... and I think that kind of mentality coming into a martial art is kind of retarded, but to each their own. MMA certainly does seem to have it's use if you're want to learn an amalgamated variety of techniques to beat the living daylights out of someone quickly and efficiently. So... in that respect it would be cool, but I don't know really what I'd be getting myself into. I don't know if it's me or what, but the discipline from traditional martial arts seems lost in the whole concept of mma, and is more of a "tough man's" way to fight instead of actual martial art? Am I wrong? I would love to learn a some though... no denying that it's as close to learning how to street fight as you can get... without being in, you know, fight club. It's so different from the way I see traditional martial arts I guess ... but I'd still like to give it a go one of these days.

Russian weeaboos make fantasy action game
Strike911 replied to lazygecko's topic in General Discussion
Uhh... The sentiment, as well as the blatant implications, of a few posts earlier, both here and on YouTube, are essentially people lamenting "ZOMG!!11 Russians making Japanese styled game?!!!" In fact, the term "weeaboo" only further emphasizes this claim. My post had multiple examples of why I thought those feelings are misplaced. My post is a response to both that and the outside influences directly affecting the game's reception by the public, both of which are relevent to this thread, therefore your response does not really apply to anything I've written. ..... -

You know, every time I hear about someone pissed about Westerners emulating an eastern style it pisses me off. I don't get the argument that just because a style is "Japanese" that people outside of Japan cannot emulate it, and if they do decide that they want to emulate it, then the developers have succumb to selling out for mass appeal. It's just a style, the same way as Kojima attempts to make Metal Gear look like a Hollywood movie, the same way Team Ico had a lot of concept art that resembled Giorgio de Chirico's style of artwork. Bungie Studios used the anime look for Oni back on the PS2 through Bungie West, and hell, Bungie pretty much copied the style and character look from Ghost in the Shell, almost exactly. You don't see people saying that the Japanese are selling out when they started loving the US influence and items in the post-war era. The japanese have taken other inventions and improved them ten-fold, beyond what they once were merely copying. It's a similar case with New Hollywood when they started borrowing from the French, Italian, and German film styles in the late 50s, 60s, and 70s. It's just retarded to bash a game on it's style and call the developers sell-outs. It's a style and only a style. I might have agreed if only Japanese style games were the only games that sold well, but that's clearly not the case as we see multiple examples of games like World of Warcraft selling like freakin' hotcakes, HalfLife 2, Halo for crying out loud. I may or may not personally like any of these games, but there's no denying their money making ability without a Japanese style. What a stupid double standard. Everything artistic that we have on this earth today is the result of people liking certain styles that weren't there own and incorporating it in a way that they feel can express themselves. When they add a twist to that new genres are slowly born. Style emulation isn't always bad thing and could possibly be the best way that the developer feels can express their story to the player. Or hell, maybe they just wanted to use an anime-look. Who cares?! The character models, though a little low-poly by todays standards, don't look all that bad, and the animations are certainly interesting and well done. I dunno, I guess I just get that feeling of don't judge a book by it's cover when I hear stuff like this, and while I certainly don't know whether this game will be good or bad, I just don't like all the hate these new developers are getting just because they're using a Japanese influenced art style. ... hell, like it or not the entire western world has just in the last 20 years been heavily influenced by Japanese culture, more so even today with Hollywood's escalation incorporating stylistic elements. I think Oniblade is an extension of that movement. /rant -
VERY TINY, HINTING AT SPOILER FOR Phantom Hourglass... ... Gotta be honest, Phantom Hourglass's main bad guy was not very cool. The game was phenomenal, but the main bad guy that was causing all the trouble was not interesting at all. The boss fight was fun and interesting but... yeah. END OF SPOILERS... .. but yeah, Phantom Hourglass had a great cast of supporting characters. Linebeck is quite possibly my favorite support character... either him or Midna... but Linebeck has such an interesting and funny personality I almost would pick him over Midna... Yes, in fact, I would. I liked Linebeck better. anyway, back on topic... I liked all the looks of Ganondorf... the only thing I didn't like about TP Ganondorf was SPOILER!!!!111 His transformed form from Twilight Princess.... he's clearly better as a pig from OOT. That was an awesome transformation, and I hope with his Final Smash they pick that version as opposed to the TP version. I'm kind of feeling like they may go the TP route though, because they're using A LOT of TP assets and looks... advertising tool? I think so. I do really like the Ganondorf from TP. I think he looks really bad ass and cool, but there's no denying that Ganondorf from WW had awesome katanas... so if they spliced the two I'd be happy... *shrugs* maybe a down+B move switched his blades ? And of course, Final Smash would turn into classic Ganon from OOT..... ... haha, or FS would be Ganon from the American animated Zelda cartoon. hahahahaha. /sarcasm "I WILL SEND YOU TO MY EVIL JAR!" - Ganon

there was no ledge on the bottom cylinder. There never has been. You're high if you say there is. glad to see hyrule temple in. Was certainly more talked about than any of the other stages... i mean... everyone knew the stage as the "huge level." you know? So good times. I'm hoping for the classic Hyrule Castle level too!! Maybe the old StarFox stage, and PERHAPS, just perhaps, Saffron City, because I miss that stage SOOooOOO much. I played through the N64 smash bros and that level was just pure fun, bliss to play through... plus I think back in 1998 or so, I believe the first screenshot of Smash bros I ever saw a year or two before it ever came out was of Samus kicking pikachu in Saffron City. haha. Good times. Oh memories. You card.
