  1. I wouldn't recommend dropping thousands on a huge, clunky workstation and all the routing hassles that come with it (unless you're planning on performing live) when there are tons of great plugin bundles out there for less than a quarter of the price that will operate seamlessly in your daw. I'd go for something like Komplete or Omnisphere with a midi controller. just my two cents.
  2. you can play with my VJ all you want, babeh
  3. where did that 3d image of Hydrocity in Xenon's sig come from?
  4. sounds excellent, much better on the compression and mastering this time around. I can roll with this. YES
  5. well, your sound is getting more and more polished, but I wonder if we'll ever hear a non dance/house track from you? I only kid slightly, I love me some electro-house, and I won't complain as long as you keep sending high quality arrangements like this. I just wonder what it would sound like if you hit us from left field with a ballad or a hip-hop mix or something. ;D anyway, solid work here man. keep reppin' the obscure/unmixed. YES
  6. quoting this for well spoken truth. your music is amazing (amazing job with your recent 'tracer' album), and I sincerely hope you send us some more stuff, but the interpretation level here isn't quite in line with our standards as it is. NO(resub)
  7. gonna have to agree with my fellow J's here. I think this is a great foundation, but it feels a lot more like a early sketch or concept than a fully realized song. seems like you took a pretty minimalist approach by intention, which can work, but even in that case, the song is still quite short and too conservative to fly on OCR as it is. you got the chops, so I hope to hear an expanded, more interpretive resubmission of this, or some more subs from you sometime. NO(resub)
  8. "The file you're looking for either never existed or has been deleted." -Tindeck (Words of Wisdom, p.26)
  9. agreed that a lot of this sounds pretty darn similar to Snapple's mix, but this had a few more liberal flourishes early on and transgressions such as the solo in the latter half of the mix, as well as some nice, cleaner breakdowns, whereas Snapple's was a bit more conservative with the backing during the solos/original sections, but also more polished in terms of mixing. however I suppose I'm here to vote, not compare. I agree that the balance and EQ could have been stronger but overall the song was pretty rockin, and the performances were solid. nice work. YES
  10. agreed, Larry dropped a solid vote here. I'm really digging the overall soundcape, so the sax and drums were the main offenders. I'd actually look towards some of the saxophonist's in the community as they're somewhat readily available (Prophetik, Xenon Odyssey, ProtoDome) as a replacement for that soundfont. anyway, this has plenty of potential, it's just not quite fully realized yet. NO(resub)
  11. gonna go ahead and close this one out since we all seem to be on the same page here. these SS sources didn't really do a lot to differentiate themselves from previous incarnations, aside from "omgliveorchestra" - don't get me wrong, both sound great, and Ballad of the Goddess is definitely a baller track - but your arrangement was excellent, a very fresh take on the themes while still retaining the Skyward Sword kinda vibe and imagery. real nice blending of the two themes as well. nice stuff here overall, can't wait to hear more subs from you! YES
  12. haha I definitely do not listen to this kind of music very often. I suppose one of our judge-perks is being forced to listen to music we never do, and then try to write about it. well, they say variety is the spice of life, and for what it's worth, this track certainly rocked my face off. really solid execution here guys, with impressive performances and a solid arrangement to boot. really loved the old-timey breakdown about two thirds of the way through and then the epic 6/8 fanfare section after that. OA nailed it on the head when he mentioned how well that bit fit with the style, it definitely has a ton of power and emotion behind it. really, really great mix here, boys. keep up the good work. YES
  13. I haven't heard this in a long, long time, but from what I can recall, this definitely sounds a hell of a lot better than it did then. I have to agree with Larry's points about the timing/expressiveness of the performances and a whole new re-recorded coat of paint could really take this track to the moooooon, however I do think this reaches the bar and flaws aside is still an enjoyable track. I'll roll with it. YES
  14. I really like the track, and the way it sounds, a lot. this kinda sound upgrade is a fantastic way to start the mix, and even the kinda simple (but excellent) drum patterns added give it a ton more personality. however I (begrudgingly) have to agree that the arrangement is a bit too conservative to fly on here in this state. I hope we can hear a resub sometime, not just so we can post it on OCR, but because I really think this could become something truly amazing. as Larry mentioned the arrangement spreads it's wings beautifully at the tail end of the mix, but a majority of the track feels too cover-ish. NO(resub)
  15. alrighty, can't say I've completely examined this arrangement, but I did go into it after listening to the source about 10 times in a row. any arrangement of this nature (short source into a decently long mix) is gonna break into some pretty liberal territory, but I could definitely pick out the source melody at times throughout the mix, and having read Larry's breakdown, I feel okay about passing this one. no qualms with the instrumentation/mixing, which sounds excellent. the overall composition and timbre of the piece has me reminiscing of the orchestral versions of 'Simple and Clean' and from the Kingdom Hearts games. nice job. YES
  16. definitely agreeing with pretty much everything in Larry's vote here, and also feeling some of the NO's criticisms with the soundscape and arrangement being a bit sparse, however I wasn't lost on the repetition, and despite the lack of melodic variation there was a ton of nice automation and movement in the textures. very danceable stuff. ah and I must admit, the ending fadeout/crash cymbal is super lame and amateur sounding. it's not gonna hold back my yes, but it's worth mentioning. YES
  17. hey dude. sorry for blowing up your inbox again and again. fortunately I think I've managed to get most of the work off your shoulders, I've successfully resized and placed all of the images on the templates and made most of the fixes that needed done. the one thing that is bugging me is that my front and back cover looks really dulled (mostly just the blues) in CMYK in comparison to the original RGB files, are they going to print properly or do I need to edit the coloration in order to make it look normal in CMYK? the inside covers look fine but they use a black/orange color scheme (no blue) and seem to look just fine in CMYK.

anyway, I'll PM you one more zip with all the templated files, just so you can look over them and sorta verify that I've done everything correctly..

    thanks! :)

  19. what's GC's stance on fully original albums? also, is it strictly limited to dance/house/etc? I've got a few original projects in the works that I'd potentially love to release on here, and while there's certainly a smattering of house/dubstep and the like, my albums are usually pretty varied in style (with chiptunes being a recurring theme of course) and definitely wouldn't be considered 'DJ-friendly'. I guess I'm just curious as to exactly how narrow your scope is. a question probably best answered by sending a demo, huh?
  20. all you people commenting on the amazing glitching in the intro... BUY IZOTOPE STUTTEREDIT. you won't regret it. just sayin'
  21. Download it: http://flight.ocremix.org Torrent: http://bt.ocremix.org/torrents/Pilotwings_series_-_Take_Flight.torrent Hey, I made this. Enjoy it!
  22. agreed, Deia hit the nail on the head in terms of arrangement. I'm not totally sold on the sounds/mixing job either but it's hard to put my finger on whats 'wrong' with it.. I guess the sounds/synths just aren't particularly interesting to me. the (what I'm assuming are) brass stabs aren't doing you too many favors, though you could certainly do worse, and luckily they're not too exposed. the overall sequencing is also pretty stiff and could use some humanization, especially the piano. it's on it's way, but I think the arrangement and production both need a bit of polish in order to get it up to the bar. hope to hear this again! NO(resub)
  23. closing this one out; gonna go ahead and ditto what the other judges said. however I'll mention that the mixing wasn't too shabby; felt a little sparse and restrained in terms of EQ, but the sounds were pretty clean and gelled pretty well overall, nice chiptune aesthetic too. NO(resub)
