  1. ^Are you sure you didn't mean to post that in the Nintendo DS topic? Depends on what they are, but I'll take them off your hands for free. You can't get better than that, right? A free service?
  2. Shadow of the Colossus. Awesome pick. I'm looking forward to some good work being posted. If I do post anything, it will be minimalistic in nature, maybe a circle for a head, lines for the body parts and then a giant black rectangle with a question mark to represent one of the colossus...es.. I better stop and not give away any of my priceless ideas!
  3. No age limitation as Bahamut said. He also said he'd bring his Wii over, so you'd have to smooth over the details with him and zircon. (Need to know # of available TV's and total # of controllers.) As for cash, bring a bunch. It really depends on how long you're going to be there and what we do. Let's say that you're going to be participating in EVERYTHING. I will approximate some costs for you. 7 dollars for non-dinner meals and 15 dollars for dinner. As for transporation, you'll need 7 dollars for an all day pass and about 15 dollars if you're staying over at zircon's. You might want to stash like 5 dollars for Chinatown Fair or even less because the games are fairly cheap there. (Capcom vs. SNK 2, SF3:Third Strike, MvC2 or newer games in general are all 50 cents per play. Older games like SF2T, Gigawing, SF3:Double Impact, and even Ms. Pacman are 25 cents. The most expensive games there are the rhythm ones which are 1 or 2 dollars per play.) If we are going to a museum, I did post the rates before. The maximum price goes up to 20 dollars, which is kind of pricey. But we haven't really decided on anything just yet. However, I don't think we'd have time for it so it's not my calculations. I know that 7 dollars per non-dinnner meal might sound expensive, especially if you're going to get a small meal which could be like 5 dollars (or even less if you're just going to grab a bagel in Manhattan.) But I don't exactly know what the prices are where zircon lives. But don't forget about tax and tip as well. It's always best to have a little more cash than too little. (Also remember to account for whatever transportation costs it takes you to get into NYC as well.) The total sounds like a lot, but it's an overestimation so you can safely participate in everything without any trouble. Food: (7+15+7)+?? Transport: (7+15) Fun: (5)+?? Minimum cash to have on hand at meetup: $56 Being able to hit on Pixietricks in real life: priceless
  4. MoMA? Hmm... rather not. It's good depending on what exhibits are showing, but not always great. Though, it should be noted that they only recently opened up an entire wing. I sometimes think that The Guggenheim lacks substance because there are relatively few works on display. The Met is pretty cool because it's huge and should have something for everyone. Even the permanent collection is huge as well as the passing exhibits. MoMA = $20 per person (free if under 16) Guggenheim = $18 per person (free if under 12) Met = suggested donation! (6-10 dollars, I'd suggest.) The museums, I find, are always out of the way. From the Rockefeller area, I would think it would take us about 25-35 minutes to get to a museum unless it's MoMA. About transportation, we'd most likely use it 3 times, but an all day pass would be some nice insurance for only a dollar. We'd most likely have to decide if we're going to a museum that first because it will change a bunch of things. Though I do like museums, I personally think that scheduling a visit in would actually put us too much on a time constraint at each place we go. Spending quality time eating lunch, at Nintendo World (video games + Wii), at Sam Ash and/or Manny's as well (mini jam session?), and including walking time... I think it'd be tough to fit in a visit to the museum, besides, they usually do close around 5 on the weekdays (with the exception of Friday which is considered a date night). But, I think we can go if a majority of the definites want to.
  5. A musical is kind of costly, especially around this time unless you somehow get an afternoon matinee or something like that and order the tickets ahead of time because of our large group size. I will say that the baseline for tickets are around the 60 dollars.. but you could go watch... Rent or something for 20 dollars. (Personally, I think that'd be a waste of 20 dollars.) I would think that Avenue Q, Spam-a-lot or even Wicked would be a good choice. So meet up people, please voice your opinions! Lest I begin singing scores of musicals at you when we see each other. As for pixie's concern over a homebase. I think this is something we should consider. The cold, hard, furniture of the city is not a good place to sit down. We need to find several places where we can lounge with no problem. In my experience, the furniture/home living section of Macy's is do-able. I can't really think of anywhere else except for a large library or something, but I do not know where one is that we can easily go into unless it's the New York Public Library and I don't really know how that works. University libraries require IDs and such. (Do I have a friend who lives in Manhattan? Actually I have several, but most are girls who will not allow me to borrow their place.)
  6. Cool. A few people? Hmm... big meetup then. It's all good. Don't worry. We remixers will be the cool elite. I wish I knew more about music to actually remix. So Bahamut, what are we doing?
  7. But I wanted to play around with a new shiny one! Anyway, yeah. It's all good. I guess I can use my camera as well... *sigh* but it's kind of old and scratched up from other trips I've used it on. I guess it'll have to do. A camcorder you say? I am quite experienced at this filming business. Perhaps I can have some fun with it..? I like playing with stuff...
  8. Sorry, q-pa. Well, it looks like it wasn't in the cards anyway if you can't take off. @Bahamut: Sorry to hear that your friend is not a girl. Oh well. I guess I can have fun with these other ocremix bums... which I mean in the utmost respectful way. Seems like mecca also wants you to get your camera pretty soon. Do you have enough money for it yet after buying the Wii? @Nicole Adams: Then come! What's a little bit of cash between friends you've made... over... the... internet..?
  9. Possibly two friends, eh, Bahamut? Does that mean the possibility of one being the hot girl increases?? I DEMAND TO KNOW WHAT LEVEL OF ESTROGEN WILL BE PRESENT!
  10. It's hard to find a good restaurant in the Midtown area that isn't part of a chain or extremely expensive. Aside from the attractions such as the theaters and other landmarks in midtown, prices are generally pretty high around there to essentially gouge the wallets of tourists (a normal entree at Applebee's is like 15-20 dollars in stead of 10-15 dollars.) If we wanted to eat in the midtown area, we'd probably have to go someplace cheap and on the mediocre level of deliciousness. This isn't a problem with Manhattan as a whole, just midtown. But that's just for lunch. I could potentially go scout of there. However, I've been around the Rockefeller area a bunch of times and there's really nothing there that's within our price range except for a shady looking pizzerias. The only real recommendations I have are John's Pizzeria and Carmine's. It's italian food generally pretty good. As for the price, it's do-able and a sit down restaurant to boot. If I remember correctly, it's about 15 dollars for an entree that you can probably split 3 ways (2 if you're really hungry) at Carmine's. Over at John's Pizzeria, I think it's about 13 maybe 14 dollars for a pie which is pretty good but also thin crust so it's not too filling. Entrees range from 9 dollars to 11. This isn't too close to Grand Central though. We'd probably have to walk a couple of avenues (not streets) west to get there and then possibly walk back to go to Nintendo World. I'm planning to go to Manhattan this weekend if everyything works out for me this week. Any requests?
  11. <- How can this cow ever be angry?? n_n Anyway, since this is a possible issue, it's best if it gets resolved as quick as possible. But as of right now, it doesn't sound like you can make it at all. =( Are you asking for it to be moved to Friday? Please find out if you can come on either one those days so we can finalize things!
  12. Can you still make it, q-pa, if it's on a Thursday? Inquiring minds want to know.
  13. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN A THURSDAY! It was even discussed in the beginning of the thread! Anyway, I think the major conflict would be that q-pa probably can't make it on Thursday, but Jose can. ._. Has anyone made any plans that can't be changed? I'm hoping not, but yeah... This is not a good thing, q-pa.
  14. It's perfectly fine to play DDR there. It's just like some of the other fighting games. If you're familiar with the game's sounds effects and music, you're able to filter the other noises out, at least I can do that with Capcom vs. SNK 2. As far as I know, there's DDR Extreme and Supernova there. The rates are kind of ridiculous, but not overly so. It's one dollar for three songs on Extreme and two dollars for three on Supernova. (I play Extreme. There aren't too many great songs on Supernova with some exceptions but, not enough to justify the price.)
  15. If this is an issue, no one has mentioned it being a problem in particular. (I'm not too sure whether or not it actually matters for Jose if it is on the 28th versus the 29th.) However, if it makes all the difference, then it could be on the 29th. But for now, I think we could safely schedule it on the 28th for the time being. Does it particularly matter? I don't exactly know for sure. But it's important to set a date for those who have more time sensitive plans. If there is a major conflict, then we'll handle it as it comes.
  16. Anyway, I lied. I never contacted McVaffe. But I think that everyone expected me not to, so it's all good. I will now say that the date shall be on December 28th at noon for all of you who need specifics. Little mini-game before NYC meetup: Guess the speaker: "It was the day before today. I remember it like it was yesterday."
  17. As I understand it, if you can get to the NJ Transit station in Lebanon, you can go to Penn Station in New York City. Annandale is way out there... I had no idea... It's an hour from where I live, and I can't even drive!
  18. How was my day? Thanks for asking. While bringing attention to the NYC meetup, I've been playing games and going to classes. Bumming around really.. playing Tales of Phantasia for the GBA if you must know. But I still have the original GBA, and it's quite dark since most of the levels are in caverns/catacombs rainy villages and the like. I'm really thinking about getting a DS lite for Thansgiving, but I think that it could also wait until after the meetup. *sigh* What happened last time in NYC? Who knows what craziness ensued? Actually, went to Guitar Center and had pizza. Aside from that, and lack of pics, I do not really know for sure... as I wasn't there. I think that this time we should do something awesome. Even go to the Met and see some antiquated instruments. (Okay, that sounds boring, but whatever.) If you can think of something better, suggest it! I looked into some things I like to do... but apparently, they are expensive. Oops. I will see if this McVaffe character is still around.
  19. I'm ashamed of you Bahamut. I have to bring the topic back to the front page? Anyway, yeah, number of people will most likely determine where we're eating. As I said before in the irc channel, the theater district usually has a lot of restaurants that can seat a good number of people. Though, it's hard to walk around and find one since it's so close to the Times Square area... might just end up going from one overly priced restaurant to another. As for the date, I don't think anyone really has anything against December 28th @ 12 PM. Jose might, but this could just be the fact that it's a weekday. Aside from that, not a lot of objections have been made. Updates anyone? Xerol? McVaffe? MCVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFE!?
  20. We should buy those large soft pretzels. The last time I had pizza in Manhattan was probably a long while ago. I stopped eating it because I ended up going to the same places over and over again. It's good and all, a lot better than the stuff they have here in New Jersey. But my last memory of pizza in New York City was at a Familigia's near Times Square. My friends and I finished filming some scenes on 51st Street. We were dressed up as Ghostbusters. People took our picture and it was kinda cool.
  21. We're having lunch... where? I might be a total dictator when it comes to food, but where exactly are we planning to have lunch? Of course I don't want anything too specific, but I want to know what to expect... hopefully not like those hotdogs off the cart deals. (If you wanted to argue for price, they aren't cheap at all for what you actually get.) I think it's reasonably to add some more possible activies into the mix right about now. Aside from Nintendo World, Chinatown Fair is also a nice tiny place to go for a game of DDR at the very least. It's hard to find a good place to go in December, where it's cold. I don't like the cold. Central Park? But only if there's something going on there... which usually is not the case. Most of the activities at Central Park organized by the Dept. of Parks end around November-ish like the simple trails, tours or bird watching. The Metropolitan Museum? No... only I like that place. Times Square... Toys 'R' Us, Virgin or a Tower Records? But where is a good place where can pick on the girls ? *We should probably pick a definite date and see which one is best for everyone to maximize fun-ousity. FUN-OUSITY!
  22. Yeah, Nintendo isn't great at deadlines at all. I would expect that it would be released fairly soon after launch however, like SSBM was for Gamecube. There wasn't too much fanfare or hype behind it then. All I knew was that it was a popular game on N64. I really didn't have too many expectations for it when I saw it out for cube, but I bought it and turned out to be an awesome buy. I think the first game I bought with it was Tony Hawk 3... but you had to buy a game with your console or else it's useless right? I will be optimistic and also expect a January release (but hopefully it will parallel the SSBM's release and come out early December, though unlikely).
  23. Yes. Everything much be kept hush hush. No one should know the things we will do to pixie... I mean.. with, yes.. yes with pixie. Bahamut said he would buy a camera before this meet up. He will be accountable for pictures. I could take pictures as well, but his camera is nice and shiny.
  24. Who said I was a definite?! I will have no part of this meet up. Just kidding. I'll be free around then.. or at least I plan to be. 4 people? We can have more. More people I say! Once we find out more about the number of people can we narrow down our activities and such. Yeah, get this McVaffe character too. (Who is he? Sum noob? ) Oh yeah, I guess noob wouldn't be able to come either. Oh well.. at least we'll have one. (Bahamut that is...)
