    what outputs does your computer have monoprice.com has a pretty decent selection of AV stuff at pretty cheap prices in fact, today's deal is an active splitter for ~$30 edit: oh sub $20, well there's the cheapo route with a passive splitter for $5

    the only problem is that boats disappear if people get too far away from them, so you'd have to be prepared to drop a boat every so often

    what we could do until some kind of privacy thing is implemented is adopt a "last one out lock the door" policy where the last op to leave the server uses the /save-off command so that any changes can be reverted I'll start reading up on the linux console stuff so I can help run it in the future

    creepers can destroy anything, nothing else can destroy anything also levers and wooden doors are inoperable by mobs although pressure plates are obviously still triggered by mobs

    currently the only way you can go "splat" is if you bury yourself in a falling solid block like sand or gravel and technically you're suffocating that way and not really splatting

    saplings need either direct sunlight (dirctly under the sky) or torchlight to grow thus you can actually grow trees underground with torches

    the torches keep the saplings from dying before they mature

    a 11x17 area with alternating torchXsaplingXtorch saplingXtorchXsapling torchXsaplingXtorch often nets me ~448 blocks of wood per harvest
