Corey Oltman Email Address: Website: http://kingtigermusic.com Forum Userid: 13997 Link to Remix: http://stuff.kingtigermusic.com/music/remixes/KingTiger%20-%20Love_Hate%20Relationship%20%28For%20OCR%20Submission%29.mp3 Name of Game Arranged: Super Mario Bros. (NES) Name of Arrangement: Love/Hate Relationship Name of Individual Songs Arranged: Underworld Theme, Overworld Theme Comments: This ReMix is pretty liberal; it really gives new meaning to the word "arrangement" The main melody of the Underworld theme is played about 4x slower than the original song, and it's shifted back 2 beats to create an interesting syncopation. Some of the feedback I received on the WiP forums indicated that this may be too copy/paste, but that it still keeps things interesting by constantly introducing new elements. I think I just about hit the nail on the head as far as how I originally envisioned this track sounding, which (I feel) is sometimes hard to accomplish. It's pretty groovy and apparently pretty mellow (according to some feedback). Whenever I make a remix, I try to make it not only significantly different from the original, but also significantly different from any other remixes that may exist. With that in mind, I chose a rather liberal path as the foundation of this track and tried to make lots of different embellishments to build intrigue. I honestly think this track is some of my best work, and I hope that the liberal-ness of it all doesn't keep it from passing the panel. Thanks, R. Corey Oltman P.S. If my mix does not pass the panel, could you please leave the link for others to see? Thanks! --------------

  3. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to review my submission. Here is the link to my remix, and I will also attach the mp3 as well, just in case. I wrote the first iteration back in late 2010, almost entirely in a single sitting. That was a productive night! Around January of this year, I decided that it was time to bring the remix up to my current production standards. The results of that updating are what you hear now. I've been a bit nervous about submitting my remix (if that's not clearly evident from my long delay), but I figured what the heck. No risk, no gain! It's been commented that it runs a bit long, but I just don't have the heart to cut it short. The original track sets a completely peaceful and ambient mood, and I really wanted to create the same atmosphere with my remix (though with a bit more energy). I'll not go on and on, since I don't even know if this will make it through or not. Thank you for taking the time to listen, and accepted or not, I hope you guys enjoy it. That led to a WIP done in one afternoon, which in hindsight was a bad idea since it was poorly mixed and had poor guitar playing, but apparently it was enough to get me a spot on the album. However, trying to build on that WIP turned out to be a little hard, and after hearing some suggestions I decided to do it from scratch. The new version was so much of an improvement upon the previous one that it basically gave me enough inspiration to work on it for hours and hours each day, and I completed it in about a week (even though I had some exams during that week. But you'll be glad to know that I've passed those exams ). This was my first time recording something this fast and heavy, so I spent tons of tries and failed attempts in order to get a well-executed guitar performance. The rhythm guitars were much harder to record than the leads. I blame those damn triplets! I'm never again writing triplets at 180 bpm in my songs! XD I suppose a source breakdown is in order, though I don't think source usage will be a problem: 0:00 - 0:26 = guitar chords based on the 3rd part of the source 0:27 - 0:50 = piano playing the melody from the 3rd part of the source 0:50 - 1:01 = some guitar+drums 1:01 - 1:22 = lead guitars play the 1st part of the source 1:23 - 1:28 = short interlude 1:29 - 1:50 = synth lead playing the 2nd part of the source followed by the lead guitars 1:50 - 2:00 = another short interlude 2:00 - 2:22 = 3rd part of the source played on the lead guitars 2:22 - 2:43 = organ solo 2:43 - 3:05 = guitar solo 3:05 - 3:25 = synth and guitar playing the 2nd part of the source 3:26 - 3:48 = lead guitars playing the 1st part of the source again 3:48 - 4:03 = piano plays the 3rd part of the source I hope you enjoy listening!

  8. Hello, OCR! We've never actually attempted dubstep (with a straight face) before, but there's a first time for everything. Personally I was a little hesitant since dubstep is met with a lot of resistance on the interwebs, but if you never try you'll never know what might have happened. And that's how this mix started! Details: Your ReMixer name: Digital Element a.k.a. DigiE. Your real names: Maurice Willems & Sanjay Sampatsing. Your email address: Your User ID: 2761 Additional details: Name of game(s) arranged: Resident Evil 2 (PSX). Remix Name: A New Horizon. Name of individual song(s) arranged: Secure Place (Save Room Theme). -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPVrizQOma4 Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. The idea was basically to go nuts, and have fun with a genre we haven't really touched at all (But love. We've seen Skrillex live, and since then our love for the genre basically exploded). We were looking for a melodic touch to it as well, and the melancholic vibe the RE2 Save Room gives off perfectly fit the direction we were looking for. Aside from that, it's a really cool song and we've got a lot of fond memories playing the game. It's been pretty awesome putting this together. After listening to the genre for so long, it's refreshing to actually take a jab at it ourselves properly. We hope it was a success! Hopefully you guys enjoy it! <3 PS: We're not sure how lenient the bar for the used vocal clips is (The speech is from Albert Wesker in Resident Evil 5, and "You're all going to die down here" is Red Queen from the movie), just know that we can easily remove it and replace it ambient effects to fill the void. Regards, DigiE. --------------------------
  9. Hey I'm an evil clown here subbing an evil clown song, shout out to Willrock the evil clown master (master of evil clown puppets and so on) could you imagine Master of Puppets in carnival style played by evil clowns? nvm Games: Darksiders II, 7th Guest, Chrono Cross (short cameo) Sources: Plains of Death, Puzzles, Time's Scar (1:15 melody used briefly at 1:29 of the remix) Composers: Jesper Kyd, George "Morbidly Obese Guy" Sanger, Yasunori Mitsuda Title: Death Lives I finished this song on October 27th. You know by now that you could hear a grim song like this from me regardless of the holiday or time of month though, so... hah! haha! But we can pretend it's a Halloween song if that's what you're into. You've got to be a little crazy to make a song like this. You may call it a "medley" but it's not really. It's more of just a molding of similar melodies and themes that fit together in the mood of a piece to create one, what I call, creatively incoherent cohesive song. There's no "Medley-itis" but there are strong transitions that are used in a very specific way like the drop down to solo music box at 1:49 or the explosion into carnival music at 2:32 complete with a tempo increase and switch to 3/4 sig. The charm of this arrangement is in its tendency for the unorthodox while still being, imo, particularly engaging and enjoyable. It's actually really simplistic but you might not realize that on the first listen. I do not believe this is a "novelty" song or any kind of one-listen type thing due to it being so unusual. I think people should be more creative with their arrangements, I particularly hate the auto-pilot type of arrangements regardless of their genre. Things need to change and develop or express some kind of effective mood or I'm not into it. Not trying to sound like a snob, that's just my tastes these days. :3 I used some cool Omnisphere synths in this. Never really care about Omnisphere ever until I start going through its library and find some really awesome stuff. That "fake guitar" synth with the really cool vibrato was a lot of fun to play around with. Probably more interesting than playing that part with a real guitar. If there's one thing people take away from this mix, I hope they experience and understand the menacing nature of it. There are some bits, like the chromatic theramin, that are obviously little musical gags that'll probably get a giggle out of people, but without a small sense of comedy, this song would have been way too tragic. ----------------------------------------------- (fan upgrade)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scmQ_6gUrVU
  10. Greetings, While Deadly Towers probably won’t go down in history as one of the best games of all time, the music itself has come to the forefront of my memory on many occasions. This is most likely due to hearing the games music over and over while trying to pass some of the more difficult levels (well, difficult for me anyway). After some time thinking about it, I finally decided to try my hand at remixing “Castle Hall” which appears early in the game. I originally wanted to do something more on the “dreamy” side, but found very early on that the idea had morphed to something completely different. At the end of the day, my version of the piece ended up being rather upbeat, and hopefully enjoyable none the less. Thanks for taking the time to listen! New microphone with no noise too, finally got to experiment with layering together a little "one man choir", been wanting to try that forever! Fun times! Been on a bit of a black metal kick again lately, listening to and being influenced by bands like Naglfar (old favorite!) and their former vocalist's Profundi (newly discovered favorite!). Coincidentally, this was also my first time entering Dwelling of Duels, and for their "Free Month" in October the Halloween spirit was in full swing... ...so you can imagine how this track ended up happening. Spent more time than you'd believe researching the games for the lyrics (Gargoyle's Quest is also referenced). A couple of days later I was surprised to find it posted on Destructoid (long time reader) and even more surprised to see it received well considering the rather niche-within-niche genre going on here; yet another couple of days later I was contacted by The Joker asking if I wanted to have it on the second BadAss album. Well, I'm glad he asked because I never put two and two together to realize how much sense that made. So, another spit-shine later, here we are and I'm submitting in hopes of finally giving Steve Pordon's old Demon's Crest arrangement some company! DAW used is FL Studio. Drums are Addictive Drums (Metal ADpak) with some additional (free) sample layering, female choir is a Papelmedia soundfont. Rest is recorded with the following things: Washburn XB100 MBL bass, Ibanez RG7321 (rhythm) and Jackson Kelly KE3 (lead) guitars through a PodXT, Prodipe 49C MIDI controller (VSTi: Church Organ 2nd), RØDE Podcaster mic. * Lyrics Demon wings on winds of vengeance Returned, to claim what was lost Guided by the eternal flame Gift of honor, from The Bringer of Light True warrior of the Makai Rightful bearer of the crests Demon dragon was slain for the last So the six could be as one Backstabbed in the moment of truth False pretender to the throne Left to die, fallen from grace Somulo once more awaits This time no back will be turned Claws and fangs prepare This time none shall be left standing As a path is carved in blood Weak traitors shall reap what they've sown And the hierarchy be restored Open wide the gates of hell Red Blaze coming home -- Joachim 'Torzelan' Sandberg http://torzelan.com ---------------------------------------

In fact, I didn't even realize that the harp pattern was Yume Nikki until I had listened to an earlier remix I did of the SAME exact source (BGM_004) that used the same exact harp pattern. It's just sped up a little bit. Yup, that about covers that. This one was a lot of fun to make. Didn't spend to much time on it initially (about a week), but then I ended up spending a LOT of time to produce this thing after the competition. There's something about trying to do cool stuff with reverb that just won't sound good on some earbuds/speakers. And that was the problem with this song really - I had to spend a lot of time trying to make it sound good on everything I could. Production can be tricky sometimes, especially with more atmospheric songs that tend to be heavy on mid range. Each element, IMO, works together in the end, and the relaxing beat melds well with the electronic elements and (of course) piano. Hopefully you'll think the same! Source Breakdown: The harp pattern used pretty much throughout the song is the Yume Nikki source (sped up, and playing on two chords instead of just one). It starts at :49. Sky Chase Zone source is used at: :24-40 1:00-1:32 3:00-3:16 Metal Harbor Zone Straightforward from 1:50-3:00 note that I very very heavily arranged this source, so I only really use the first few seconds of the source and arrange from there The rest is pretty much original. 134 seconds of source out of 240. This is a very liberal song. Nothing much else to say - enjoy the music! Also, if you like this, check out the EP I just released (at the time of submitting this). http://urdailywater.bandcamp.com/album/far-away

I apologize in advance if this is long… it seems I have a bit to say about this mix! I didn't start this song with the intention of making a Requiem of Spirit remix, or any remix for that matter. It began as an experiment, using my favorite new playtoys (Omnisphere and my Damage drum library), to see if I could create an enormous soundscape (after having been inspired by Theophany’s huge soundscapes). I came up with a drum and bass groove that I liked one evening, and the next morning I awoke with the six notes of Requiem playing over it in my head in a rather unique way. So I sat down at the computer and this just flowed out. Requiem of Spirit leads Link to the Desert Colossus in OoT. It was only after my mix was complete that I realized that all that industrial clanking in the first half is an excellent reference to the Lanayru Desert in Skyward Sword. So, that's cool. This song makes me feel emotional... it is haunting and even a bit disturbing when I listen to it. It starts out fairly badass and electronic, then morphs into something softer and more orchestral, then soft and badass join forces… with the Damage drums bridging the sections. The song could tell the story of someone who has made some bad decisions in life, but as time goes on he realizes his mistakes… but he wonders if it is too late to change his ways... I’ve been told in my WIP forum thread that this song is too liberal, source-wise. This surprised me initially, as I wrote every single section starting with the six notes of Requiem. I thought the song was obnoxiously repetitive with source… but apparently I managed to bury the source too deeply! So I’ve altered the writing where possible to bring the source out more audibly. Also, I’ve included a complete source breakdown (below) showing my intentions throughout the writing process. If this song does not pass the panel for lack of source usage, I will of course be disappointed… but I am still VERY pleased with this song, I learned tons from the process of creating it, made some new friends, and it is my best writing and production effort so far. I’d like to thank everyone who chimed into my WIP forum thread with comments, they were all tremendously helpful and inspiring. Special thanks to anterroir for his precious friendship and for suggesting (and then contributing) the awesome brass and timpani in the final passage. I tend to stick with various forms of house, but I knew if I was going to do a Mystic Cave Zone remix it just had to be glitch-hop, so I gave it a try! I made this almost entirely in Reason 6. The beginning samples with Traktor since it simpler. Regardless of whether or not this gets in, this submission marks a bit of a milestone for me. Ever since I started listening to OC remixes, I've always had ideas about mixes to put on this site. But until now, I've always had to rely on the request board to foster any hope of those ideas being made into a song. After years of thinking about it I've finally started to learn how to produce music and finally have come away with something I think is worth being judged. So, thanks for being something to work towards!

This is a piano arrangement/medley for multiple games in the Legend of Zelda Franchise. It starts with the Skyward Sword theme from Skyward Sword, transitions into the Lost Woods theme from Ocarina of Time, then to Song of Healing from Majora's Mask. It then repeats the same pattern, though with more diversity and dynamics, for a proper build-up where it finally concludes with the Skyward Sword theme. I started working on this because when I was learning some of the Zelda songs, I realized how similar they all sounded. A lot of the songs play in the same key. So I thought it would be cool to blend them together into one song, rather than having it sound strictly like a piano medley. This is version 1 because I plan on doing different versions with different songs from the Zelda franchise. There are more songs that sound very similar and I want to do the same thing like I did with this version. I used Logic Pro as my DAW. I used the Galaxy Vintage D library for the piano sound.

That was exactly the case behind this remix. I believe I spent around 12 hours total completing the arrangement, and a few more mastering the track. I really wanted to give the song a feeling of space, so there are a lot of subtle sounds in the background working to support the various melodies in the song. This was actually one of my favorite levels from the Sonic franchise. The whole concept of Marble Garden was really interesting to me as a kid, and I would often times play to hear the music from this level. I even remember when I first came across OCRemix that I wanted to try my own take on the theme, and here I am today, actually doing so. Hope it's a pleasure to listen to!

  23. Hello judges! ReMixer name: DarkSim forum link: http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=33879 Game arranged: Donkey Kong Country Arrangement name: Focus Song arranged: Fear Factory Source: Composer: David Wise Now then, I've attempted a ReMix of this source before in a drum and bass style that was rejected, but I love this source so much I thought I'd do a completely different ReMix attempt. This time I've gone all-out progressive house, inspired entirely by deadmau5 and his epic 10-minute long masterpiece "Strobe". This isn't quite 10 minutes, but at almost 8 I feel I achieved my goal of having the 3 sections present in Strobe that are the ambient beginning, the driving beat in the middle section, then the final climax of the song as it leads into the outro. I could go on for ages about how good David Wise's compositions are, but I rather like reading DJP's writeups so hopefully I'll get one for this! Thanks, DS
