Remixer name: some1namedjeff Real name: Jeff Ball E-mail: Website: http://www.jeffedwardball.com UserID: 8601 Name of Game: Final Fantasy 2 Name of Arrangement: Preluematsude Name of Individual Song Arranged: Prelude Link to mix: Artist Comments: The Prelude itself is literally just an arpeggiated chord progression, since this was before Uematsu had put any melody with it. So in this case, all you have to work with is a string of notes, which meant I had to use some creativity. I ended up taking the original arpeggio and mixing up the chords a bit, along with glitching the hell out of it. To this, I added some surrounding melodic material over some beats. Throw in some chord extensions, some live violins, then cook in the oven at 375 for 15 minutes, and you'll get something that sounds like an underwater cityscape. I kinda wanted the remix to be a gradual unfolding into the original chord progression, so you don't actually hear the full string of chords until the violins come in at 2:21, then the real heart of the piece happens at 3:00. This mix is for Brandon's FF2 project. Thanks, -Jeff --------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N67zMay2JTM

Link: (160 kbps was the minimum required for greatest quality in this case) Extra info: "Okay, so this remix was a WIP for about 5 months... I did so much to it that it has over 40 timeline tracks and over 68 channels! A lot of various sounds and effects were used, such as double-layered pads to cover attack and cutoff rates, distorted phasers, glitchy drums, and electric blues guitar. Now, I recently got Guitar Rig, and I think it's seriously awesome. It definitely adds more realism to my guitar tracks and gives me a whole new resource to experiment with. Same with Zebra 2.5. There's so much I could make with it, and I've actually made two songs that have almost all Zebra instances. This remix was partially inspired by TheGuitahHeroe's remix of Sky Tower, I think it was. There is a bit of that style in here, plus some adaptations of my own with other influences, such as the guitar tone of pasterofmupets and the ambience of zircon's songs. Hehe, what can I say? They're unbelievable. Overall, I've enjoyed the time I spent on this remix, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I was making it! - Timaeus
  3. ReMixer Name : SkyRiderX Real Name : Joseph Zellerkraut UserID: 44431 Game : Final Fantasy IX Original Composer : Nobuo Uematsu Remix/ Arrangement Name : Forgotten Dream Original Arrangement Track : Unforgotten Face This is my re-submission for Unforgotten Face from Nobuo's sountrack for Final Fantasy IX. This was inspired by the desire to make a track for Sir Frately (Freya's lover) since he doesn't really have his own song in game nor do you ever get to play as him. I thought this was unfair since Frately is just as strong and cool as Beatrix but you only get to use her at one point in the game. On top of that he never appears again in the entire game until after you beat it so I thought I'd do him some justice by making a remix to Freya's theme that gave more of a feel for his journey. The source track was scarce which it hard to create a whole song it from it but I was able to pull some nice ideas together for a "journey" to be made within the song. Enjoy! --- SkyRiderX

Well, it was on the 10th, so I'm a little late. Gimme a break, I just spent all day eating pizza, playing Mortal Kombat, watching movies, and going to Medieval Times for the day. Anyway, onto the mix. This was my third piece for the WCRG (which was a ton of fun and really forced me to up my game, and I hope it's apparent), and for fun I wanted to revisit the vibe from Mayan Malfunction; turns out, it's a style I really really enjoy, and it would seem that the Pitfall soundtrack has had more of an influence than I previously thought. This one's obviously not as over-the-top glitchy, but there's definitely some saucey glitches and gating in there, especially on transitions. Ethnic drums are unbelievably fun I also enjoyed adding in the sitar and shakuhachi (Japanese flute). Also, on a more personal note, this mix was a sort of break through for me, since I made all my own synths. And since PoiZone is the only one I have and I'm too poor to buy anything else (and am too much of a pussy to torrent stuff), there's like, 12 instances of it (which I realize isn't like, a whole lot or anything, but it worked). So yeah. pH can synthesize now, kind of. And all the while I've been trying to up my production game, which is far from good, but I'm learning Source Breakdown (and a good one, since I left it out of my last sub): 0:06 - Wily 2 transition at 1:11 in the source 0:31 - Charge Man intro melody, minorized/interpreted 0:47 - Charge Man melody 2, again, minorized/interpreted; 0:11 in the CM source 1:00 - Sexy ethno-break; Charge Man melody 2B, 0:22 from the CM source 1:13 - Same thang, just with different instruments 1:25 - Back to Wily 2 transition 1:38 - CM chorus, 0:54 in the source, heavily interpreted 2:03 - Uh, I guess the same thing interpreted waaaay differently. I thought I switched it up more than that, but apparently not 2:15 - Pretty straight forward Wily 2, 0 :46 in the source 2:41 - Back to CM melodies from earlier, although the first is interpreted a little differently 3:05 - More straight forward Wily 2 with a bit of interp, 0:13 in the source 3:44 - Still Wily 2, looping back to the first part at 3:05 of the mix 3:56 - Back to the Wily 2 transition from the beginning of the mix to finish things out ------------ - MM9 - MM5

ReMixer name: pokemoneinstein Userid: 44139 Name of Game Arranged: Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga Name of Arrangement: “Land of the Beans” Link to ReMix: Names of Individual Songs Arranged: “Welcome to the Beanbean Kingdom” (Main Source) “Hoohoo Village / Beanbean Castle Town” (1:04) “Beanbean Castle” (1:28) “Chucklehuck Woods” (1:52) “Bros. Victory” (2:47) “Happy Adventure, Delightful Adventure” from Super Mario RPG (Inspired a few bass changes. More of an influence than a real source) Additional Information System: GameBoy Advance Composer: Yoko Shimomura Published: 2003, by Nintendo Developed by: AlphaDream When I first discovered OCRemix, I was so happy to see so much of my favorite music redone in such magnificent ways. Donkey Kong Country, Kirby’s Adventure, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy, Zelda, but wait! No Paper Mario? Where’s Pikmin? Most unfortunate of all, there was nothing from any of the Mario and Luigi games. I was shocked. How could I let that go unnoticed? Composed by none other than Yoko Shimomura, the first game of this series has one of my favorite OSTs of all. So I’m here to try and get this game’s score some of the credit it deserves. Having never attempted what OCR defines as a true “ReMix,” and going into it with little knowledge of production values, I think my first try went pretty well. Of course, I couldn’t have done it without the help of the wonderful OCR community, and a huge thanks to TheGuitahHeroe, who helped me perfect it all, and stayed patient through my insistent badgering. With a bright, happy, adventurous vibe reflecting the cheerful and quirky residents of the Beanbean Kingdom, with “Land of the Beans,” I hope to introduce new players to the wonderful game, and bring joy to the faces of longtime fans. Made using Logic Pro 9 and many of the accompanying samples, with the exception of a vibraphone sf2 found from an outside source. ----------------------- - Bean kingdom - hoohoo - bean castle - chucklehuck - victory
  7. I won't lie, the remix is a pretty liberal take on the source tune, but I will put my comments on where I personally looked and used the source in here. I will also point out that the lyrics are very strongly inspired by the story of the game. The first thing to note is the chord structure definitely follows the source, which you can really hear in the breakdown. The first verse (0:22 in arrangement) follows the opening melody line of the source with the first three ascending lines and the drop to the lower note. Obviously at that point it diverges by not doing three ascending notes in the lower area, but the vocal melody hits the "original" three notes again right after, as it does in the source melody, and then diverges again to finish the verse. The second verse (0:46 in arrangement, "All that I am...") follows a similar pattern, but lower, applying to the source melody doing the same at 0:07 in the youtube video. Similarly, the third verse (1:08 in arrangement, "The path that I took...") pretty much follows the breakdown of verse 1. This is structurally different from the source, which goes to a new section rather than repeat the opening. The next...section (chorus?) (1:30 in arrangement, "Now I know my path...") is based on 0:13 of the source, with the descending line that repeats. After that is the bridge (1:52 in arrangement, "Now's the time to stand up to your fears...") that is uses some lines of 0:26 and some lines that are similarly inspired, having the two voices weave in and out from each other similar to how that section works in the source. After that is the breakdown (2:14 in arrangement), where Stevo used the descending lines source (0:13) in the bells. The last verse (3:21 in arrangement, "Now I must go...") is following the basic structure I laid out for verse 1. So, as I said, it's definitely a very liberal take on the source. I was using this song as a learning experience for taking a melody line and really working it outside of the source for vocals. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but hopefully with the insight I provided above you can appreciate it a bit more.
  8. Thanks to everyone for birthday wishes! I got to see Unsung Heroes released, and have about 200 pages to read for homework!
  9. I might be biased, but I think this album overall is pretty solid. All the songs are great listens on their own, and together as well. Nice work, ladies and gentlemen.
  10. Thanks to all for coming, the parties were huge successes! Also thanks to Kyle for live streaming it!
  11. Your loss *wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle* YEAH
  12. Just under 6 hours until the listening party! It will be fun!
  13. José can and always does amazing trailers. And he's loveable, too!
  14. I thought about this one for a while. Overall it's a tough decision. The arrangement itself has a pretty good soundscape, and the genre transition is fluid. There is also a lot of variety in the background while the melody stays mostly the same. What is putting me back is how many times the same part of the theme is presented throughout the track. It's quite a few times. However, going back to my earlier point, the amount of background variation does a lot to make the song not feel as repetitious as it could be. I'm honestly pretty on the fence for this, but I think I am going to lean towards a pass, and also wait to hear the other judges' opinions. Good luck! YES (borderline)
  15. So little to add. This is a pretty in your face take on Chemical Plant Zone, and it really pushes the bass pretty hard. Personally I would have liked a little more variety in the soundscape to give my ears a bit of a break at times, but I don't think that's a dealbreaker. I will agree with the gentlemen above on all the points mentioned; pull back the master a bit, fix the bass, and cut out that silence! NO (Resubmit)
  16. If you look at the Judging Process thread, it says what date we are up to for the inbox itself. Right now we are up to Jan 4, so if you submitted on or after that date we haven't gotten there yet.

  17. I am sad that I missed being in that picture, and OA too. But alas, what can ya do?
  18. What I like about this track ishow you changed around the chord structure to give the melody a very different feeling. There are some arrangement ideas along with that that are pretty strong; 2:00 stands out in particular as a pretty neat area. There are some areas that don't work as well, too. The beginning is pretty harsh, I think there's something not quite in the right key, or something going on there that just doesn't sound right. I'd take a closer look at that to see if you can figure out what's going on with that. The biggest thing though; Where's the bass? There is pretty much no low end to serve as a structure for the mix, and it's really disconcerting. That's a must fix to begin with. Once that's there, I'd look pretty much at all your synths, which honestly are all very weak and thin. I'd look for some replacements that will help beef up your sound, and also look into layering some instruments to help reinforce things. This one needs some work, but there's promise in your arrangement. Use our WIP boards to get some more advice. NO
  19. I love this source, and I love what you did with it. It's not terribly different from the original melodically, but there's a lot going on rhythmically as well as some good changes to the background structure. It certainly is a lot more bubbly, which adds a new texture to the overall source. While certain areas did feel a little mechanical, like the bells, I felt it didn't hurt the overall mix, and to me it actually added a little bit of charm. It's pretty obvious that I really like this song, hopefully the other judges think the same. YES
  20. I had a tough time putting my finger what wasn't quite right on this, until I read Emu's vote. The lack of a strong lead makes this track lose focus and direction, and as such I have a hard time keeping focused on it. It feels a little too much like background music. I also found the transition at 1:45 to be really jarring and out of place. It also felt like there were some clashes in that section; I'd look it over closely and pick out your harmonies. I will agree with Emu on the bass being a bit overpowering, and I'd also like to hit on the drums a little. Overall they feel pretty generic, and the loops lose interest after a while. Adding more variety there will also help keep the track more interesting, and careful drum planning can help keep your track focused. Definitely something to think about There's a solid start here, but there's also a lot to work on. Use our WIP forums to get some more advice, and I'd like to hear this one again sometime. NO (resubmit)
  21. This song makes me both incredibly happy and incredibly sad at the same time. It's amazing, and I love it so much but(!) there's not enough source! ;_; The riff is there, but it's so rarely used, and there are other parts that are similar to the source but are not it. This track is so great though. If you are willing to hit this up and some more source into the background, I'd yes this so hard. NO ;_; (oh please resub)
  22. Some interesting textures you have on. I like the Asian feel that you've incorporated here; I think it suits the original very well. That being said, I have a couple issues with your arrangement that I think need some fixing up. I'm feeling like when you use the source, you remain relatively close to the original, and then your original sections are completely disparate from the source. I'd like you to do a little more to work them together. Also, the second half of the mix feels a little cut and paste, and could have some more variety to it. The production overall is pretty good, but I'm personally not a fan of some of your drums. I actually had to listen pretty closely to tell if there's some clipping/distortion going on, but I think it's just the drums. I'm in favor of you pulling back on those sounds or replacing them with something else. I'd also look at your humanization, some parts feel a bit stiff. You've got a pretty great start here; the arrangement soundscape is unique but very complimentary to the original, and you have some good original ideas too. If you can marry them a little better, I think you'll be on a good track! NO (resubmit)
