The Best Soundfonts for these instruments :
realpolitik replied to Call me Ktulu's topic in Music Composition & Production
http://www.hammersound.net on there, the JL_Trumpet soundfont is a very solid trumpet sound. See if you can find the Marcato Strings soundfont also, it's pretty nice for strings. For overall orchestral sounds, you may want to check out Squidfont Orchestral and Florestan Woodwinds, which can be found here. -
Everything is allowed. However, only the judges know truly what gets accepted and what does not get accepted. The other group to look for real advice from are people who know music (which is judged by their technical ability with music, and the quality of their previous reviews). Chances are if someone posts and says, "HEY!!!! Nice music! This is awesome! Keep going, it'll get onto OCR for sure!", they don't really know what they're talking about. If someone posts, "There's a great deal of creative arrangement going on here, but I'm noticing issues with the quality of the sounds. Especially at the lower end, your brass sounds really, really dominating and it's drowning out the rest of the mix. I really like the way the flute and the oboe interact with each other at the higher end, though, especially ay 2:15. Bring those out more, and I think this has a very good chance it'll get past the judges.", there's a good chance that the listener knows what they're talking about, and has a stronger grasp of what the OCR standard really is. yeah, basically if you see a member with, like, 20 posts who gives you completely positive info, he's prolly not the dude you want to take advice from. generally, anyway

heh, i'm not that retarded. am i rite?

oh fucking snap, i have analoq's blessing btw, my point was that I don't generally alter the Vengeance Soundbank for Vanguard, I detune like, 4 instances of it through FL's pitch knob, not anywhere on the actual Vanguard GUI. am i really that much of a dumbass? i fucking hope so.
-
LOL!!! do note, vanguard is as good as you want it to be. Don't just rely on patches like some noobs do. And I think I speak for most people (especially myself) when I say your first songs, remixes, originals, demos, whatever you want to call them, they will suck in the eyes of many many others. I've been using FL for just under 3 years now and I still make crap =D . Best thing to do is ask for advice, take what you want, and improve. ....and welcome to ocr fuck you, i can make vanguard sound HAWT from presets (layer layer layer detune detune detune) +1 for the Waldorf attack layer layer layer detune detune detune? Wouldn't that mean you are editing the patches instead of just relying on them? DERRRRRRRR??? wouldn't that mean only detuning via fruity with the onboard pitch knob? bitch.

Soundfonts and VST plugins (Help)
realpolitik replied to Call me Ktulu's topic in Music Composition & Production
haha, most fucking generalized question i've ever heard next to "how do i mix?" It really all depends on how good the soundfonts you can find/buy are, how much money you have to spend on VSTs, and your VST programming skills. this is a good place to start for you, as is this one. Also, what type of music are you trying to make? -
The audio skipping/cracks mean your CPU is getting maxed out. Go to your mixer and select "Switch Smart Disable" and bounce all tracks your not currently using to .wav until you actually need to change something. btw, volume automation is present in FL, check your midi if not, put a slide in the piano roll at the same pitch and at the point in time where you want the volume automated. change the slide note's volume to your desired end-volume, and ohsnap, you got it.

VSTs that have done more harm than good
realpolitik replied to lazygecko's topic in Music Composition & Production
you forgot jp-8080 you fuck And no, Vanguard can NOT make a fucking supersaw. Saw pads, yeah. Not a supersaw, though... Anyway, I strongly agree with the Vanguard thing. you have to know how to use it, i guess (layer layer layer detune detune detune) -

Umm.. no? Supersaw? Not any good ones, anyway. z3ta+ maybe, but that too barely touches the supersaw. V-Station and Reaktor are the only two synths I've heard come really close. I also wanna add BooBass. -
What headphones or monitors (speakers) should I buy?
realpolitik replied to zircon's topic in Music Composition & Production
Monitors > Headphones Monitor price < Headphone price Ideally everyone could afford a pair of Mackie HR824's, with a virtually flat frequency response, but anyone lacking the $1,200 bones to purchase them turn to headphones. -

I'd like to add to this list the Beyerdynamic DT250's, which I currently own and strongly recommend. I got my pair on Amazon for $140 dollars, $40 dollars off everyone else's price and The MDR-V6/7506 (actually the same headphone) are the only decent monitoring headphone put out by Sony. The rest aren't worth it. -
What did Santa get you? (Remixing Version!)

SPROING-GOING-GOING-GOING Coming soon, I'm effing stoked -
Just create a sine bass with slow sine LFO.

trust me, when you've been to a handful of forums where you have multiple posting stuff like "fruityloops piano roll is bloody awesome for producing some phat ch00ns," especially when (hopefully) there are better alternatives, it annoys me greatly. Maybe it's just the British slang online. I don't even know. But recording MIDI beats manual sequencing anyday, assuming that you have low latency.

FL is about as n00b friendly as you get, sorry? but uses no musical score...thanks for generally not answering my question, and being an ass. I really appreciate it. why does it seem that music mixing software tends to have very little to do with actual music notation? it has a piano roll, which should be close enough to actual score notation for your whiney little tastes. BITCH jk Seriously, FL has the easiest curve of any mixing program I've ever used. For a beginner, I highly recommend it.
