  1. Simple. Because people are hypercompetitive and want to be the best. And usually that involves beating the tar out of the current best. Which is you. I must admit, all of this "Smash GT" stuff has me curious. If other OCers pick fights, I don't suppose people would be willing to share footage of the fights somehow? Might be interesting to see some of the board's best at work.
  2. Tables, you are, as of this instant, my favorite person in this thread.
  3. The frequency of which AI players get blue shells in DD was the main complaint I have. You'd get punched in the face with them so frequently you just would come to expect it. And really, that wasn't cool. I just hope they don't do that as much in the Wii version. But otherwise, I had a lot of fun with Double Dash. My roommate and I were awesome at co-op in that one, so I will kinda miss the two-to-a-car thing. Oh well.
  4. Is that more because Sonic's move set is more difficult to properly string together? There's a lot of charging involved with his set, so does that make a difference at all, or am I looking too deeply into it?
  5. This is a vital question and I also request an answer.
  6. You're posting a rather extreme happening, there. I see what you're trying to get at, but, I agree that learning to adept and deal with random crap is an element of skill. Now some things, like the Heart Container or Starman, really throw the game for a loop, but if you turn those off, items and stage happenings are a part of dealing with the game. Now, I'm no tourney player by any stretch of imagination, but the spastic nature of SSB has always been forefront, in my opinion. Therefore, I see the experience diluted with the more random stuff turned off and playing on relatively static stages. Of course, that's not the only way to play the game, but I think I'll be really happy to see Brawl actually upping the amount of adaptation you have to do. I personally think that it will add to the experience more than detract from it.
  7. So basically this guy is so ingrained in Melee physics he refuses to adapt. I don't care how good people say this guy is. It sounds to me that he's unable to get by without his fancy tricks and exploits. Granted, he really knows his Melee stuff, but it seems that he has no appreciation for simplicity. It's not to say his opinion isn't valid, but it just seems like he's crying because he can't dominate anymore. I won't claim to be a Smash master, but seriously. Perspective, people...
  8. You're all wrong. Ukemi is when you use your Zoom-In VFX just before you hit the ground after being punched in the face by a bad guy. ...Wait, wrong game. Still, couldn't help but chuckle at the name of the technique.
  9. That's if you want to get really technical. I never really asscoiated that voice with Samus, so much as just someone trying to show off with voice technology in a period where such a thing was novel. But seriously, to be more correct: Samus has had no *significant* voiceover part in any Metroid game. Though if Zero Suit Samus actually talks during her taunts, the question of why the lack of dialogue changes. Clearly then, in my opinion, the answer's already been given: to keep it simple, and to give the player's imagination more room to expand on the simplicity.
  10. Well, Metroid Prime 3's voiceover work was pretty good, and you're right that voice acting quality has gone up significantly over the years. However, I think Nintendo's logic is that they probably don't like giving "voices" to some of their iconic characters. While a few of them, such as Fox, have already had voices, I think they don't want to further draw attention to the fact that characters like Samus have really never said anything. This would be conflictual in nature; to have Fox talk and Samus not, especially considering even Retro Studios stepped away from the idea in MP3. Some characters, like Samus, could stand to lose more than they gain with a voice. In a bit of abstractness, I think everyone being nearly silent allows for people to interpret the characters' interaction on a deeper level. Moreover, it could serve to make the plot more interesting because depending on its execution, some people may look at it in different ways. Now, that's just one way of looking at it. I can't claim to really know what Nintendo is thinking. And you're absolutely correct about voice actors being available and them being of respectable quality. As well, I also agree that voice overs are the way of the present and future. However, truthfully, for Brawl, I don't know if such an idea would work without a great deal of time and money. The other factors are whether it's cost effective and whether it sells or spoils the brands involved over the long term. That being said, *good* voicework would be excellent for Brawl, but I'm not opposed to the silent treatment either.
  11. Almost decent? Meaning he still kinda sucks? XD
  12. Hey, just one question to the people that have their hands on Brawl. Does Bowser still suck or is he actually a feasible character to use this time around? Because I like the idea of using Bowser, but hated his execution in Melee due to how easy he was to juggle. Just want to know.
  13. Whoa, whoa, Sakuraba's in charge of that? ...Hot damn. That *will* be something special. Can't wait.
  14. Lol. I appreciate the joke nonetheless. Could be an assist trophy, though. Just have to see.
  15. Holy *crap*, Golden Sun music! ...I loved the series. A LOT. That's actually a medley of several battle tunes: Felix's Battle Theme, the Doom Dragon, and I believe the Fusion Dragon as well. Wish it had Isaac's Battle Theme in there too, but... hell, that's still fecking awesome.
  16. It's been years since I've played a Street Fighter game, but Megadave's advice is pretty much a solid base of the basics. Special moves can help win a match, but they won't win it for you on their own. As for the special bar thing, that's completely lost on me. Last SF game I played was II. SF games require lots of experimenting to get right, so don't be discouraged. Just keep hammering away and mess around with it. And look at it this way: on the PSP, you never run out of quarters. XD
  17. Eh-wuh!? ...Jeez, who would have thought? That one came way outta left field...
  18. Yeah, Mizar was a bitch and a half. The stupid lightning claw attack of his would just tear you to shreds if you weren't careful. Who knew such a nefarious villain liked playing jump rope? But he was fun, at least. Hard, but a genuinely fun fight.
  19. Thanks, Arek. That's the one. The non-tool assisted YouTube runs are some great laughs.
  20. Fully seconded. I Wanna Be The Guy is a very definition of "really frigging stupid hard." Also, Asshole Mario, which can be found on YouTube. I don't know the proper Japanese name for the edit, but that whole game's probably comparable to I Wanna Be The Guy in difficulty if you factor in the Star Road. (And depending your skill at Super Mario World, it may be harder.) But, off topic for a second, I loved the Dracula fight in IWBTG. Particularly the intro to it because it's just... *funny.*
  21. Personally, I think that once Mega Man Zero got its kinks worked out by its second game, that series really was a great entry into 2-D platforming. Until Zero 4, which took a couple of steps backward, in my opinion. Mega Man ZX is excellent, and Advent improves on it, even if my opinion of Model A is much lower than that of Model ZX or even Model X. Sonic Rush, New Super Mario, and the Symphony of the Night style Castlevanias have also proven to be supremely addictive and lasting. Also, Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP sticks out as Old-School 2-D platforming still surviving. The remake of Rondo of Blood is stupidly hard as Richter but extremely satisfying at the same time. I love it. So no, I don't think the genre is dying, nor do I think it's in any sort of decline in quality. I look forward to more of these games with time.
  22. Congrats, Pixie! What you managed is no small feat. A shame we can't just randomly pull a party or celebration out of thin air. Oh well. Congrats again, you've truly earned it.
  23. All I know is Rainbow Ride's return makes me happy. Despite that a lot of people don't like forced scrolling, I really liked that stage. Wasn't too surprised about Corneria. Though the one that had me going "WTF" was Brinstar, which in my experience was not popular at all, though glancing at this board seems to have proven me wrong. I was kind of neutral toward it. But anyway. Megadave's right on the issue of Mega Man. He's seen a huge amount of action on Nintendo consoles, so that's why he's desired by many as a candidate, third party or no. Personally, I'd like to see him, but if he's not there, whatever, y'know? We have Sonic and Snake, and that's damn lucky enough as it is.
  24. Not to start the whole "item" debate/bullcrap again, but I'm actually looking forward to messing around with every toy they give me in the game. The more chaos, the better, in my opinion. And I do love the idea of assist trophies. Great fun can be had with these. Can't wait to try them and the other stuff out.
