Contact Info: name/remixer name: Evan Arnett evanarnettmusic@gmail.com http://www.evanarnett.com/ userid: 20858 Submission Info: Title: "The Price of Freedom' Game: "Metal Gear Solid" Original Song "Metal Gear Solid Theme (I used versions from MGS 1, 2, and 3)" and "Encounter" from MGS1 Inspired and humbled by the tremendous positive feedback I received from my Zelda overture, I decided to try my hand at an arrangment of another of my favoirte game scores: Metal Gear Solid. As I was writing this, I played through all four Metal Gear Solid games, and wanted to create a version of the theme that fully encompassed the entire series, much like what I tried to do with the Zelda Overture. I wanted to challenge myself to create a piece that sounds as if it could belong in the game, yet included a great deal of original thematic development: melodic, harmonic, percussive, and motivic. I had the privilege of working with two very talented musicians: mezzo soprano Janna Mckinley, who sings the opening and whose voice I manipulated into various electronic textures throughout the piece, and guitarist Jonathan Mills, providing the wonderful acoustic improved intro and echo of the main theme. I had more planned for this piece, but unfortunately my studio was burglarized and all the original files and arrangment were lost, leaving only this mp3 which I had uploaded to my personal site. Still, I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish, and sincerely thank you for your consideration.

ReMixer name - Anti-Syne Real name - Jack Lewis User ID - 31863 Submission Information Name of game - Sonic 2 Name of individual song - Chemical PLant Zone So this ReMix was a bit of a wonderful accident. It started life as an original track, until whilst playing round with it I accidentally played those first two chords of Chemical Plant Zone. Out of curiosity I played the Chemical melody into my original and it just seemed to work. This is my first ReMix to really offer a major tonality change from the source, and I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out. Out of interest it's called 'Chemical Blip' not in reference to the blippy, glitchy part, but in reference to a little blip sound that I couldn't seem to stop in early versions of this ReMix, blip is now gone, but hopefully not forgotten. Hellz yes. I love this track and am really happy you decided to give it another shot. I think the string attack is much better now, and the realism of the sound isn't an issue for me, so that base is covered. The piano sounds more humanized, and thins overall are clear and full of energy. The compression is a touch too much, and the piano sound itself could be improved, but as a whole, the arrangement carries this. Nice resub. Yes -
Very cool panning intro - It gets into more of a generic rock groove afterward, and Deia has a point that the drums could be a little more exciting; that snare is a bit weak, and the bass could come up a little. I am not quite sure that's enough to force this into resub territory though; I like the track, and though I think it could be improved, enough is clicking with me for the yes vote. Yes (borderline)

Overall i'm feeling this, but I agree with Jesse that there are some rough edges that could be smoothed out. The lead acoustic needs to be brought up slightly, and the electric lead down. I think the water effect for the ending is good, but it happens for about 6 seconds, and then it abruptly fades out. I really like the strings and snare rolls, and I think the concept overall is strong, but something tells me you ran into the cd deadline here, because, yeah, it's not quite done. A long and slow fade would have been fine, or a dreamy flourish, but not the hard and fast face that is here. I suggest re balancing slightly, fix the ending, and resub it. No, please resubmit -
I think the drums are panned a little hard to the left, and because there is so much going on, it gets a little cluttered at time, but this is a really fun take on the source, and I would totally bump this in my car. Great variation throughout. You have solid transitions, and everything sounds like it is gelling well. Yes

The bass high end is incredibly overhyped, and overall is too loud. You can barely hear anything else in the song, and it's sequencing is incredibly mechanical as well. The harmony lead guitar is also pretty out of tune, and the playing is a bit rough. Sorry to be so critical of your track, I think the concept is good, and you picked a really good theme, as well as added some really nice solos, but the overall execution needs to be stronger. I hope you consider taking this to the WIP threads and getting it tuned up there. No

This basically sounds like a pretty cool original track inspired by the Top Gear 3 song, and the only the guitar part from the source is really recognizable, and it's been marginalized, and sounds like the original bad midi. Weird choice keeping that the same and sound upgrading the rest. There are a lot of cool progression choices hdre, and though the balance is a bit off, and the sequencing is definitely mechanical, I ejoyed this, but it needs a lot more source to pass. No -

So you are saying you didn't have the time to even enter properly and you expect to win? We are super bros, so I can be straight with you, but you need to check the entitlement at the door when you are competing. Either you put out your best work and let it speak for itself, or you don't enter. Admitting that you half-assed your entry and still feel you deserve to win, based on your own personal criteria is incredibly disrespectful to your opponent. With that thought, I headed to YouTube to find out how to achieve the pumping-and-breathing effect, then fired up FLStudio... soon after, Among the Stars was completed. For some reason, my remix here evokes a scene in my head: Spyro and Cynder are settling down for the night under a clear, starry sky when Cynder realizes they may very well be killed at any time, so she urges Spyro to take advantage of the peace they have and enjoy the moment. Long story short, this mix is what got me to ocr in the first place. Was gonna put it on vgmix, but that site went down. Tired of waiting I finally joined ocr, and got distracted by other tracks. This track had a short trip through the wip board way back, then took a vacation and resurfaced as part of the boss themes project. It's a little better than those previous versions I had, some elements going back to before Eat Your Own Dust (to '04 or so), some parts being _somewhat_ more recent additions. It's always had the signature time sig of the source, but at some point I decided to have a little more fun with time sigs and... this is the result. -ad

yeah, the percussion high end is a little clicky and hyped, and the second half is slightly repetitive, but overall this is a good piece of work. Nice variation throughout. Yes -
calm down guys, the article is a 'humor' article. I found it hit or miss, but there was some interesting info there. I agree that Level-5 is the new Square Enix, as in, they are putting out the highest quality stuff.

halc hit this one pretty well, the track is insanely overcompressed; when the song started i literally was shocked out of my seat by the massive volume. The highs were very piercing, and the arrangement had some good ideas, but didn't evolve much, making the song feel like it was really dragging. I do think there is promise here, but the volume needs to come way down as a start. No, please resub -
not a huge fan of this snare sound, but st anger's is 10000x worse. :/

Most of the issues I hear that are OCR-specific tend to be at 250hz, but it can vary.
