  1. i listen to lots of ambient music and this barely falls under that category. the fact that i was disappointed with the ending is not because i have something against freeform music, but because i was disappointed with the ending. that's all. i think this is a cool idea but i'm pretty sure it won't get on ocr for one main reason: it isn't a remix. a song done with sounds from a videogame isn't a videogame remix any more than a song done with sounds from a saxaphone would be a jazz remix. again this isn't anything i have against the song, which i liked, it's just that there's a good chance it won't make it here. maybe a judge should comment.
  2. this is pretty cool. piano is very nice, though a little fake sounding i think it fits the song. personally i was disappointed with the ending. this is a similar situation to that zelda remix that used the ocarina sound from the game but didn't actually remix anything though right? it probably won't be passed.
  3. ok not bad...strings are kinda icky, too much going on there, and the sample quality is not very good which usually doesn't matter for rap beats but it stands out here which is saying something. when the bass enters it comes across as way too weak. it needs more punch to it. the drums don't help much either, but at least get the bass sounding stronger. just a personal preference thing...after the break at 1:40 i was expecting the next entrance to be a lot stronger. overall i guess just make it stronger, it has potential but right now it just lacks energy...and given the repetitive nature of hiphop beats it needs to have that energy.
  4. yeah like mlo said it's probably G Major or E minor, but I'm leaning towards E minor since the notes you gave outline the chord (except the F# obviously). if it is E minor then the notes would be E F# G A B C D E (assuming it's natural minor).
  5. no i meant musically there isn't anything missing. the phrasing is all very intentional.
  6. this is cool. i don't know if you've already thought of this or plan on doing it, but i think the part around 1:26 should be repeated later on except without dropping the bass. also i don't really like the hi-hat you used but that's just me.
  7. hmm don't know why it sounds like that. there isn't anything missing though... yeah just a sequencing mistake, i played this on my old computer so a few notes didn't come through and i had to fix them manually...that's just one i forgot. yeah it is simple, but that's intentional. it is meant to have vocals over it. thanks for listening edit: i've posted the "final" version in the first post, it's just longer and i think the minor issues have been fixed. i'll do the vocals someday, just not yet.
  8. as someone who enjoys ambience and to a certain extent noise i can say that there is more than enough going on here to keep it interesting. it could be longer but it works as an interlude. reminds me of some of M83's interlude-ish things on before the dawn heals us. goood stuff
  9. you went overboard with the pads here i think. but this version sounds like it has more direction to it than the original, so that's good. i think you can create whatever atmosphere you're going for without the pads sounding so metallic too.
  10. i think googlepages cut it off or something unless it ends at 1:43 i don't really have any criticism i think this is pretty good. keep going with it
  11. hey this actually pretty cool. the sound quality isn't bad, unless you're talking about sample quality: some of the drum samples are kinda weak and that piano around 3:00 as well, though I guess it adds to the whimsical-ness of the song. my only real problem with this song is that it doesn't really sound ridiculous enough. in parts like 0:57, since the main instrument doesn't really change, it would be nice if everything playing around it changed a bit more instead of just that snare drum pattern. and around 2:50 it would be nice if when those laughing samples and the chainsaw samples came in the instruments still playing in the background became more chaotic (ie. wrong notes, playing out of time, etc) or something, because the crash on the downbeat doesn't really do it imo. i think this is a solid foundation for a good song but i think it needs a bit more.
  12. why? you can get the real soundtrack here on ocr http://www.ocremix.org/quicksearch/game/?qs_query=donkey+kong+country+2
  13. that piano in the intro is really bugging me. too muddy, and i think the first note it plays is too loud. if it was a bit quieter it would lead into the chord more smoothly and it wouldn't sound so bleechh. notes at 2:11 still sound off. this song has a really dark sound and that note just makes it too happy sounding. i think you might have went a little over the top with the pads too, especially around 3:27-3:42, they just cause a whole lot of unnecessary dissonance. this has a lot of good qualities to it but there's little things that really bug me about it. it's probably personal preference (except the pads i think those are just too much), so it might have a good chance.
  14. maybe you should not be starting a remix project on a whim like this, especially since you're already running one. do you even have a concept for this project besides "remix the whole thing"? is it gonna be kong in concert pt 2, are remixers from the last one gonna be involved, is it gonna be something completely original, etc.
  15. I think I heard this over at Tha Sauce. It's good but I don't like it as much as your Silent Hill one.
  16. are you guys going to be submitting the Ice Climber remix and those other Zelda remixes here too?
  17. new Neskvartetten? saaaaved. reminds me of 'Hammock Soliloquy' by John Scofield.
  18. I don't think this had bad transitions, they sounded like authentic prog rock transitions. The drum samples are pretty bad though, especially those cymbals.
  19. Thanks for listening guys This song is pretty much finished composition wise but I just haven't gotten around to recording the vocals, and I'm really not in any hurry. Right now I'm working on an instrumental version for ThaSauce and it's gonna be fleshed out a lot more. Hopefully it turns out ok.
  20. Seems good to me. I think any problems they'd have would be subjective stuff. but what do i know.
  21. breakcore is pretty fucking awesome. works perfectly imo. autechre-y. the drill n bass one is lacking a lot in comparison. keep it up.
  22. I meant stylistically this is very similar to other DarkeSword stuff I've heard. But you're right I probably did listen to your song a couple hundred times haha.
