  1. Will do this evening. I haven't actively played since Tuesday night though; I've left the game on because I saw there was a Bliss reward for having played for 1,000 hours, and since there's no way the game should take that long otherwise, I've just left my 3DS open and let it run. I'll do multiplayer tonight though.

  2. One of the things I've learned is that there's no right way to parent, and short of witnessing abuse, it's never ok to tell someone that there's only one right way to do things. Every child is different, and good parenting is about figuring out what's best for your children individually, for you as a parent, and your family as a whole, and finding the balance there. I see this problem all the time with my mother-in-law. It's been a long time since she's parented small children (her youngest child, my brother-in-law, is 28), but she acts as if she knows the best way to parent my son, despite the fact that she's making stupid mistakes. One example is when we stay over there, Will will go to bed around 7, which is his usual bedtime. We always put him in bed and leave him; he's 3, and any new attention once we've left the room winds him up, so he can't fall asleep for a long time after that. His grandmother insists on checking on him, which invariably wakes him up or gives him stimulation just as he's about to fall asleep. That keeps him up longer and leaves him tired and cranky in the morning. And despite the fact that my wife and I have observed Will's sleeping habits EVERY DAY and know how much sleep he needs and how he responds to interrupted sleep, we're told that it's not ok for him to be asleep without someone checking on him. Is this actually a question of maturity? Women go through a lot during pregnancy, birth, and raising an infant, and men like you and I will never be able to fully understand it. Part of maturity is knowing your own limits and reservations about something and balancing that with what might be required of you. Whether the decision is mature or not has everything to do with the attitude and thought process that went into the decision and very little or nothing to do with what the actual choice is. Maybe your gf's friend has struggled with body issues in the past and it's taken her a while to accept herself as she is, or maybe she's worried that nursing will change the way she sees herself or the way that her significant other will see her. Maybe she has a history of depression that you and your gf don't know about and she's making choices that will balance the needs of the baby with her own needs. Unless you or your gf have discussed this enough with the friend to really understand why she made the decision, you don't know why she did, so calling it immature seems unfounded. Breastfeeding is objectively better for the baby than formula, provided everything goes smoothly. But, it's certainly not the case that formula-fed babies are doomed to a life of illness or malnutrition or will grow up stunted or be behind in school. I'm all for giving people the information and letting them make the choice that's best for them.
  3. No, both Klaus and Hans both worked on both movies. See the Production section of this page (specifically note that Hans wrote the theme for "He's A Pirate") and this, which talks about Hans and Lisa Gerrard being the main forces behind Gladiator. Klaus *did* also work on Gladiator (see the third paragraph here), but since Klaus was working for Hans' studio, Media Ventures, at the time, it's no surprise that they both ended up working together. Hans definitely wrote He's A Pirate, and whether or not he specifically wrote that theme in Gladiator, it surely has his influence.
  4. Bump: Dropped prices a bit more, and added Cubase Artist 7.5.
  5. I'm on Faerie; Kanthos Rhodes. I'm still fairly new to the game (L26 Lancer); I just picked a server that had a pretty high population.
  6. That's the slacker reason (especially when writing in a DAW or notation program when you can write everything in concert pitch and transpose if needed). I'd choose a tenor and trumpet because a tenor has a nicer sound (IMO) than an alto - it's more mellow and warmer - and a tenor doesn't overlap as much, pitchwise, with a trumpet.
  7. That'd be for a big band in jazz. Smaller horn sections can be any number of combinations, from just a trumpet and a tenor to an alto, tenor, two trumpets, and a trombone. Outside of big band writing, I don't think there's any standard template to follow, and what instruments you use will largely be dictated by the sound you want, or, in a live band setting, by who you actually have in the band (eg. you might prefer the sound of a trumpet and tenor, but if you can only find an alto player, you take what you can get.)
  8. Bump; prices have been lowered a bit on everything. Always willing to negotiate too.
  9. Those guys are awesome. I was going to see them when they came to Toronto a few years back; his (Esbjorn, the pianist's) scuba diving accident and death happened about 6 days before they were going to play here. I recommend their Live In Hamburg album as their best.
  10. I'm in that course too; great stuff so far. A lot of good suggestions in here; I'm going to add Snarky Puppy. They're a fusion band with funk, gospel, and hip-hop influences (several members have done a lot in the Dallas gospel and funk scene, and their usual drummer has played with Marcus Miller and Snoop Lion). They record all their albums live now, making a DVD in the process, and they've got all kinds of groove and memorable, singable, melodies, but there's also a lot of complexity in what they do, without sacrificing appeal to those who don't like weird chord progressions or melodies. Here's a few links: - Probably their most popular tune. A ballad with a great synth line and some African influences. - They're usually instrumental, but did a project last year where they invited a number of singer friends of theirs to arrange a tune with the band and record them in concert. This song won them a Grammy for best R & B performance - the singer sings a few chords in a breakdown near the end of the song. - One of my favourites from their latest album. Their usual drummer had Visa problems and couldn't get over to Holland for the recording session, so they brought in a drummer from Toronto (my home town) who I'd met before. Larnell Lewis is definitely near the top of the list of the best drummers in the world.
  11. Bump, also to point out that I've added Omnisphere to the list.
  12. You can keep saying it and you can keep being wrong They don't usually include any version of Komplete, no, but last Thanksgiving, they did put upgrades/crossgrades to Komplete on sale.
  13. I'm Kanthos#1438. Battle.net has the stupidest system of usernames.
  14. I sent Kimahri into Rikku's grid to get Steal and Use, with a detour into Yuna's grid just for the circle with Reflect and Dispel, and then down through Rikku's towards Holy. I let him sit at the L3 lock in front of Holy and build up levels until I got an L3 Key Sphere, then unlocked Holy and sent him to Auron's grid (Wakka's would also have been a good choice). The point was to have him prepared to make the most of the Biran and Yenke fight on Mt. Gagazet. I beat Biran down until he cast Mighty Guard, learned that with Lancet, dispelled it from him, and used it immediately on myself. Then I did the same to Yenke to learn White Wind (think I also picked up another one or two; Doom, maybe?) Then, with easy healing and mighty guard up, I stole L3 key spheres from each of them for a while, then finished each of them with a single cast each of Holy.
  15. I'm selling a ton of samples and plugins. Rather than clutter this thread with the list, I've posted it in another thread here.
  16. You can probably find that cutscene on youtube anyway, if you want to see it. I'd bet someone's already got it uploaded in HD too.
  17. I'm studying my younger brother's jazz theory books from college right now, and his school uses this technique for coming up with jazz chord progressions. Here it is in C. Box 1: Box 2: Emi7 Bbmi7 Ami7 Ebmi7 A7 Eb7 D7 Ab7 Box 3: Dm7 Abmi7 G7 Db7 C How it works is you pick either box 1 or box 2, then pick one of the first two chords in that box, then one of the second two chords, and then do the same for box 3, and then end up on C. For example, if I choose box 2, I can choose Ami7, D7, Abmi7, Db7, and then C. The way it works is that box 1 lets you choose between iii and its tritone substitute, then VI and its tritone substitute, box 2 lets you choose vi and its tritone substitute and then II and its tritone substitute, and box 3 gives you a choice for ii and then V, so you basically end up with either iii VI ii V I or vi II ii V I, using tritone substitutions wherever you like.
  18. bii is the tritone substitute for V7, so this is basically a ii-V-I cadence extended a bit. Sounds good!
  19. Meh, I actually enjoyed the beta, so it wasn't all worthless, and that didn't eat up all my quota; I downloaded some other games and TV shows last month too; TESO was just the single largest culprit. And yeah, FF X was always a list; the bar was used in IV through IX.
  20. I'm waiting until tomorrow or Friday to pick this up, since I'll be buying it digitally and I have less than 2 GB left of download quota for the month. Tomorrow is either the last day in the current billing month or the first day in the new one, so I'll check my quota again after work. (mutters about the Elder Scrolls Online beta downloads)
  21. Added. I know of a couple other relatively active people on the forums who are within 30-45 minutes of me, plus a one-time remixer is a friend of a friend. Toronto used to have reasonably large meetups though, 8 years ago or so, but it feels pretty inactive now. Still not as bad as almost anywhere overseas though; sorry to you guys!
  22. I've been playing it a lot; Got all the basic cards unlocked and a pile of other cards. I've been maining a mage and trying not to suck in the arena.
  23. I was a bit late to the Pokemon party; I just finished the Elite 4 in Y last week. I was wanting to grab some Dittos, but until/unless Mirby gets 3DS-friendly internet access again, I need to find someone else. Anyone else happen to have Dittos (or, for that matter, any other Pokemon not found in X and Y normally) in their friend safari? Anyone's welcome to whatever's in my friend safari too; PM me to make sure we're on at the same time, or I can just leave my 3DS connected all day. Edit: I've got Drifblim, Shuppet, and Pumpkaboo
