Results supercoolmike got 1st place with 15 points gercr got 2nd with 12 points Dj Mokram got 3rd with 11 points MindWanderer got 4th with 10 points supercoolmike, please pick the source tune for round 31. Comments: Wow everyone got a fair amount of points this round and almost every voter had a different opinion on the placements. And now...I gotta fly off to work for a stupid night shift 2-10pm. So if there was any errors I won't be able to address them until late tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for participating everyone!! EDIT Dj Mokram's vote: First time partaking in the Meat'n'Potatoes compo (great name btw). It was fun and surprisingly challenging (never done a cover before). Let's do this again sometime! supercoolmike: You've made good use of the samples you had available in this resolutely traditional orchestration. The addition of xylophone is especially nice, since it's so rare to see someone use it these days, let alone wisely. Also appreciate the little OP/ED tempo variations, which give this piece more personality. MindWanderer: A straightforward rendition of the theme that oozes energy via its quirky, chiptuney sound-design. High frequencies are a bit too shrill/piercing at times, but otherwise it's an enjoyable cover that rightfully convey the nostalgic nature of this awesome source. gercr: This had potential, both in terms of design and interpretation. But there's something off about the mixing. It's like a chunk of the spectrum is being carved off, and it's a tad distracting. But aside from that, you've created a solid cover with great sound choices and strong direction. evktalo: Bonus mix or not, that's a really groovy rendition of the source. DAT SYNTH BASS! Luv the well-rounded presence in the mid-lows, with the scarce but delightful backing synth in the first half of the mix. Now the question is: will you develop it into a full remix? I sure hope so. DjMokram: Who let this noob enter the compo? Seriously, I lost 2 minutes of my life listening to his crappy remix. That's not even a proper cover btw. No studio-chops at all in this one. Last place plastic spoon for you Dj Mushroom! -

Nah it's cool haha. I usually lose bets Okay, I s'pose I can get onto ThaSauce mIRC or something. -
Yeah been there before in the OP's shoes, it's not pretty lol - challenging the status quo is career suicide in this here site...kind of like all forums. But on the other hand...I understand both perspectives, especially since I manage a competition that has its own rules and standards that, like OCR's, are somewhat intangible and difficult to quantify.

I'll have to participate next round :3

Hmm...well, I finally know how to properly sub in people's tracks now AND how to properly credit their name at ThaSauce, so just pm me whenever you wanna submit something for MnP - just try to give 24 hours notice or something. I'm willing to bet that Bundeslang has a better idea than me as to why Rama is so reclusive/hard to reach these days =p - (or maybe Starla knows more). But yeah, for now, anyone who can't set up or access an account at ThaSauce can just contact me via PM and I will do my best to submit your track in asap. Oh and submit your votes via PM and I will just post your vote within the compo thread and credit your 1st-place vote bonus if it applies (for this round it does ) -

Actually, I'll let it pass since I screwed up the process last round, I should've picked my own source and let the previous winner or 2nd runner up choose another source alongside my own pick, if they so choose. Since the winner last round never responded to my pm. So I'll let Gercr participate. There will be no 2x voter bonus though - this round only, I promise! -

That was my bad, it is indeed still not due yet. Man this round has been probably the worst in terms of management - getting all the dates mixed up and done incorrectly. Next round should go smoother. -
Thanks guys!!

Ditto - thanks for the add Chernabogue. edit And thanks to the others who saw this and added too =p

Necro Bump! Updated my SoundCloud and made it look purty - I will also be submitting more tunes on a regular basis (usually new stuff =p) edit - forgot link. https://soundcloud.com/hoboka

Okay we've got a few submissions insofar, duedate is coming up in a week...good god I did make this round long. Oh wells. The rest of you guys better start your wips soon regardless lol -
Could be that he feels insecure about his music because of some nasty comments about his earlier and present works. Internet can be a very vicious place after all. It's sad to see him do this; I really hope that Shabubula is able to overcome whatever negative factors are affecting his life. I wish the best for him. He's got mad talent and there are many who would kill for those musical chops.

Well luckily as supercoolmike pointed out, I made this round longer than normal, kinda like a "monthly" round, so should be a bigger window lol. Midi ripping is fun >: 3 and plus I'm lazy so it's how I roll. -
At least it was the u that was omitted and not the o

I probably added another week by accident when I made it. I'll keep that in mind for the next round. -

Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes) Round 30: Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Dark King Theme "one of my favorite OST" -gercr Midi Deadline: Feb 23 @ 2PM Mon Vote Ends: Feb 26 @ noon Thursday Submit your remix Here when completed. **If you have technical difficulty with account activation at ThaSauce, please contact me via PM and I will submit your track and will also tally your vote** MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required. MnP Instructions/Guidelines 1. Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted. 2. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell. 3. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met. 4. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max). 5. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry. 6. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct MISC/TIPS - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier. - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx) - Certain sad or moody source tunes don't have drums or percussion for a reason. So keeping it that way may be the easiest way to retain much of the original feel, such as and -

My PC died on me...running on a laptop now. I'm having issues with getting my Kontakt 5 working and stuff - but I should be up and running soonish. -
That is a good idea for future reference...gercr submitted a source tune to me already via pm and I don't really want to back out on my word now heh. But I will implement this rule from here on out. Sorry about that lazygecko. I'll remember your OCR alias for future reference EDIT My PC croaked on me, so I'm having to use my crap laptop. Hence why the timing has been more off than usual lol. Normally I would've had this issue resolved sooner, but yeah, it is what it is. Still, I must apologize for the slowness =( EDIT 2 Next round is up http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=985861#post985861

Hmmm Xayberoptix has not yet provided a source and I can't seem to find a "GeckoYamori" for a pm as the account doesn't exist. Not sure what to do next. I'm gonna say that whoever from the previous round can provide me a source tune the quickest gets their pick for round 30. Failing that I guess that round 30 can be a 'free round' or something...
-
Still have not received a submission for next round. If Xayberoptix doesn't get back to me in about 2 days, I'll pm the second place guy for an entry and so forth until someone provides me a source tune for round 30.

Indeed.
