  1. Oooohhh, that's a great idea. I'd totally be down for collabing with Chris on this if he listens and feels interested in contributing Thanks a lot for the encouraging comments, hopefully I'll break out of my current writer's block and get this arrangement going again, cause I have a great idea for what to do with a later section, I just need to find a way to transition properly... I may just whip up the section separately and transition later. Very much appreciated!
  2. Sources: (Fungi Forest) (Crystal Caves [future])Remix Link http://tindeck.com/listen/zpqn (v. 5.0) Hey all, this is the very first honest-to-god remix I've ever started that involved more than just pure improvisation on the piano/guitar, so this is very new territory for me. I think all the time I've spent on workshop mod review and project evaluation has trained me to avoid a lot of noob traps that often trip up new remixers, but I've spent so long working on this that I'm not so sure anymore. Things I'm aware of that need fixing: Percussion is all placeholder, I just sequenced a 4-bar pattern and repeated/chopped it everywhere. The last section of the arrangement is pretty bare-bones, I'm struggling to write parts for that :\ The arrangement itself is obviously not done, I still want to reprise back to the original Fungi Forest melody and then move into Crystal Caves later on. So far it's pretty conservative, I'm aware that later down the line I need to spice things up to drive this away from cover-territory. Aside from that, I think the production is sounding pretty good and the samples aren't problematic, but it's my first multi-instrument remix that I've produced myself so I'd love to get some more feedback. Do the background loops get too repetitive? Cheers!
  3. Posting here to flag this for a track I need to review, I'll be getting back to you ASAP Cheers!
  4. Yeah! This title is amazing XD I'm just gonna piggyback on top of what Will and halc said (because they're gonna BUST ME UP if I don't agree with them) and say that this should have gotten a floodpost, it's by far Proto's best mix from the project and it's probably my all-time favorite Pokemon mix and my favorite Proto mix. SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS TRACK <3
  5. Hmmmmm... first off, the arrangement is ace. Love it love it love it!~ I'm still hearing some of the same issues that were addressed in the judges decision thread, but the sample articulation and humanization is a lot better than I remember it. I don't think this should have much of a problem passing if you were already nabbing several YES votes on the original version. The soundscape feels a little thin and lacking in instrumentation, but I dunno man... this arrangement is so strong and your writing is very strong. I'm inclined to say this is passable as-is, to be honest
  6. Alright, let's see what you've done with this one since I last commented. I like the groove in the intro with the unconventional hi-hat rhythm, but watch your velocities on your hats. They start to sound a little stiff when everything's playing at the same velocity. Once the piano drops in, the writing is sounding GREATLY improved since the last effort. The sound of the piano itself is still a little funky, I'm going to 100% echo what Guifrog said here about watching your EQ and seeing if you can achieve a piano sound that's a little bit less thin and narrow that fills out the soundscape a little more without stepping on other instruments. While you're at it, a bit of humanization on the note timing/velocities so it sounds a little more like it's being performed by a person instead of being read off with perfect timing and velocities by a sequencer. I'm noticing a similar set of issues when you've got the strummed guitar in the background. The sample itself isn't the best but I think it could work if you checked your velocities/note timing and reworked it in a way that sounded more like you were actually strumming a guitar. Right now it just sounds too noticeably unrealistic and it definitely hurts the section it's featured in. Guifrog's also on point about the latter half of the mix needing a bit of extra instrumentation, something subtle to pad out the rest of the mix, when the melody starts to repeat. It's not bad at all the way it is but you could definitely fill it out a bit so the song has a more gradual dynamic curve. Let's see what you can do with this one, I really like what you've got so far!
  7. ^^ This is completely true. We're not going to let those two tracks go unrepresented. But in all honesty, I'm probably not going to let those two artists back out on their tracks either, because the WIPs are insanely unique and original and I don't think there's a single artist on this site who could replicate it. Hope that answers your question
  8. Yet another great example of how I spend my mornings, and my inability to remember what year it is.
  9. ya seriously, this ep is the shit! definitely not the most accessible kinda music in the world but I really dig the Burial-meets-hiphop vibe you've got going on. Downloading for some really great chillout mindtrip music when the time is right Heres hoping this gets some attention here! and good to see you on the forums again!
  10. Hey man, did you ever get my PM about Maverick Rising? We kinda needed a reply on that soon!

Also, happy b-day! :-D Have a good one!

  11. Well, to replace an artist who had gone AWOL, newcomer Tweek has stepped in to fill Chase SNES, and it's awesome. The album's sorely lacking in orchestral and/or metal representation, and his song has both! Gonna rock, thanks a million Tweek! The rest of you, please finish blah blah blah you know the drill. Once we get these last 4 songs done, the project will pretty much be done and ready for evaluation. Hurry up!
  12. All of your Imogen Heap remixes on Youtube are ridiculously good man, just wanted to tell you that :-)

  13. The album's in the evaluation phase right now.
  14. I had a dream this project wrapped up and released last night and I got to listen to the whole thing, I'm now really curious to see if my subconscious assumptions about various songs were even remotely correct
  15. Yeah, sorry to say. I don't mean to be discouraging by any means, but you'd definitely get dinged for the piano writing and, as somewhat of a pianist myself, I could really see a lot of room for improvement here with a more dynamic piano arrangement on top of the backing track you've already made. I think it could turn out really quite awesome, in fact. Keep at it man!
  16. Yeah, I'm gonna have to make this quick for now but I don't think this could pass the panel simply because of the piano writing. The sound is ok but the instrument really doesn't work when it's just playing notes. It sounds very mechanical... turn some of those notes into chords and see if you can sequence it in a way that's a little bit more evocative of a real performance. I think that would shoot my interest in this remix through the roof and would definitely help it stand up much better against the judges. I'll edit this with more feedback when I have the chance, but since we've been making you wait for far too long I figured I'd post the biggest preliminary critique so you could get started on fixing it, if you're still interested in submitting. This is a pretty nice remix with a lot of cool ideas flowing, so I definitely think it's workable, but it'll need a lot of effort to make it shine and give the track a bit more personality. Best of luck for the time being, and sorry for the lateness!
  17. I can't remember if it was you wondering about this or if it was someone else in the Turntable.fm room, but either way, I asked Liontamer and he found the arranger and a download link for that jazzy Snake Man mix we were all wondering about:

    :-D
  18. Yeah guys, get in on this. This is actually really fun
  19. Sixto and Cyril aren't really coordinating, per se. More just producing, for the most part, and a little bit of consulting. I'm not even sure if melody/myself are actual codirectors anyway, but even if we were, we'd just be on par with Echoes of Betrayal in terms of staff count
  20. Still working on it... at least, me and Dyne are! I think Cyril and sixto are doing some mastering but I'm not sure what the status is on that. Melody, if you're out there, hit me up dawg!
  21. Dayuuummmm. I like this a lot. No critiques, it sounds fantastic. Very dramatic and almost cinematic. Finish this! Ok, maybe one critique. I second eilios that the sine synth is a really cool addition but it would be even better if it was a little bit more prominent at times, perhaps interjecting just to play a few harmonizing notes here and there.
  22. Yeah, this is some quality orchestration. I definitely feel like this is more dynamic and dramatic than the previous versions that I've heard. Some of the rhythm timing on the piccolo is a little off, and in the highest notes the sample just ends up sounding weak. That's the only thing that really stands out to me in a bad way, everything else about this rocks. Should have no problem passing
  23. Wow, I never would have thought this could be adapted to bossa nova while keeping so much of the original song song intact. I'd love to hear what this would sound like as a properly arranged ReMix, but even what you've got here is pretty neat. I like!
