OCR01186 - Revenge of Shinobi "Consent (Make Me Dance)"
Nutritious replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Love the funk. Love the groove. I basically just discovered this mix and I'm glad I did. Probably one of Dave's best. -
Enemies/moments that scare the **** out of you!
Nutritious replied to Salluz's topic in General Discussion
Sort of random, but I remember playing the original legend of zelda as a kid (~5 or 6 years old) and getting scared by the message you get from the old man when you visit the last level before getting all of the triforce pieces. Something about the 'what are you doing? you're not supposed to be here' vibe apparently freaked me out. -
5 days left until deadline - except Slider, which requested and was granted an extra week to finish... which means this only applies to Lullaby, which is essentially finished anyway I just sent an PM last night to everyone involved in the project and need action from 100% of you. Please check your inboxes! Also, I nailed down the tracklist last night - much harder to do than you'd think. Primarily, I went for a rough game chronological order, with adjustments for genre & flow. I've also started the organization and tagging of all the music, so I should be done with that about the same time the final tracks make it in.

OCR02811 - *YES* Plok 'Dolphin with a Shotgun'
Nutritious replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
What? There's a Tim Follin project? Oh THAT old thing... Checked out Chris's site and I have to say, it would be really nice to have a little "compare to original" button while judging. So yeah, wow. This is a tough one to judge from an arrangement perspective. I really had to depend on the provided timestamps to figure out exactly what's going on. Not sure how I feel about this arrangment yet, TBH. Gonna let it marinade for a while. The production has all of the Mazedude charm & creativity we've come to expect, so no issues for me there. EDIT: Ok, so I've finally come back to this one. Re-analyzing source usage and some careful listens did bring more to light in my mind. Thanks to Larry for the breakdown as well. If you're here looking for Plok nostaglia, you should probably check elsewhere. HOWEVER, if you are here looking for more crazy Mazedude creativity, you've come to the right place. YES -
Hmm, it's not super obvious, but the delayed plucky lead from 1:02 - 1:28 hits the bison melody. I couldn't really place what the bell synth is playing immediately following that, though, which does stretch from 1:30 - 2:30. As mentioned, the melody comes out more clearly between 2:30 - 3:28. Again, it's followed by that bell pattern, which I can't clearly connect to the source. Still, the above, coupled with the intro connections to the OST bell part & later melody lines is enough source for me. Ending felt lazy and was a bit of a disappointment TBH . I'm definitely guilty of the same, though, so what can I say? I do agree with Vig on his lead crits. They do have interesting texture, but do feel a bit flat on dynamics and partwriting. Overall, though, production is good: solid groove, good backing synths, nice atmosphere, good energy. I M Cool with this. YES

Yeah, I'm hearing a lot of distortion both on the big hits as well as the louder rock sections. Unfortunately, it's a deal-breaker for me. Really would like to hear a cleaned-up version of this mix because the concept, feel, and arrangement are awesome. NO resubmit, please

Update time! Lullaby is now both locked down and nearly complete! Two and a half weeks left for the two remaining tracks, guys. Let's close it out strong. Doesn't matter to me. Leave default wav settings. (16? I can't check I'm not at my home computer right now)

OCR02726 - *YES* Chrono Trigger 'Devotio Aeternus' *RESUB*
Nutritious replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
Definitely improved on performance issues from before. It sounds a bit cluttered to me right now at times, but I can roll with this. Very cool arrangement fo sho. Way to stay with it! YES -
Update! Just got a WIP of Slider and it's sounding awesome! Now claimed. File select is now complete! Also awesome! The clock is now officially ticking for any remaining wips: Due Date for final wavs is now MAY 6th. This gives you over two weeks - including two weekends - to close these out. If this is a problem, please let me know ASAP as I'm willing to work with you guys. Also, remixers, keep an eye on your inboxes as I'm going to need some feedback from all of you in the coming days.

He wasn't having trouble getting enough system resources to load all of the samples last livestream. -
*NO* Street Fighter 2 'Rising Like a Dragon'
Nutritious replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Yup, both Larry and Vig got it here. Mixing in general needs some attention. The highs really are blistering on my headphones - you may want to check into your mixing headphones/speakers if you can't hear that. You clearly have remixing potential, just need some additional practice. Good luck to you. NO -

Alright, guys, looks like I'm going to be jumping on this livestream bandwagon here. We're tentatively set for 8PM PST tomorrow (Friday) for part 3 of the veldt creation process. My channel will be under the following: http://www.twitch.tv/NutritiousMusic Be there! Or don't! -
OCR03516 - *YES* Final Fantasy 9 "Fixations"
Nutritious replied to DragonAvenger's topic in Judges Decisions
Man, this OST really reminds me of from Les Miserables. Anyway Really liking what you've brought to this mix. Great production treatment of all the instruments. Great performances. Definitely on the liberal side, but I can hear where you've pulled ideas from the original and expanded on them. YES -

Hah, Andrew, I was thinking the same thing (he's handing it to me next). Not sure I would be able to stream at a reasonable time of day, though. Maybe I'll just record it? -
Less talking, more remixing! But seriously, feel free to claim these tracks. Just... please SOMEONE do it... stop getting my hopes up otherwise

What is the hardest part of the process for you?
Nutritious replied to Argle's topic in Music Composition & Production
Getting over "the hump" of taking my original ideas for a remix and fleshing them out to get a nicely constructed, cohesive track. It's far to easy to get stuck in a rut 2-3 hours into a song and not know where to take it next. -
That's fine, just please keep me updates on progress Marking ToN as 100% now!
-
FYI, guys. If you're still looking to try your and at Slider or PP Lullaby, I really need to know right now. ToN is like 95% done with his mix and Argle sent me a nearly complete WIP as well. Once they're done, I'm gonna organize this and send it in for eval, which basically mean we can't make any more additions or updates. Not trying to discourage you, but giving you a heads up.

loud bang when playing back file ?
Nutritious replied to Esperado's topic in Music Composition & Production
Well I wanted to know about the plugins because I've had the exact same experience using the NI version of EWQLSO. Certain instrument combinations seem to trigger it. -

Not sure I can help, but I'm curious. What plugins are you using? Do you see anything in your mixer levels when it happens?
